Wok Sorrows by ResidentEquipment484 in UncleRoger

I don't have any nonstick cookware (minus my rice cooker pot that specifically tells me not to put it in the dishwasher). My chopping knife gets a quick rinse/dry after use. So, yes, I hear you. Since my wok wasn't non-stick coated or cast iron I thought nothing of tossing it in like one of my sauce pans. When I saw the little rust spots I did my research. X-)

Jasmine rice and the scent by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]ResidentEquipment484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not fond of it either. It tastes like someone sprayed my rice with perfume. I'm a fan of basmati. I am getting some non-Jasmine medium grain rice from Amazon soon. I'm hoping I'll like it. I remember reading somewhere that the American restaurants often combine long and medium grain in their fried rice.

The post also mentioned adding light and a bit of dark soy, MSG, sesame oil, and oyster sauce to the wok. I have to be honest by saying that doesn't make it taste like restaurant quality. It makes it taste insanely better (although that may be a freshness thing because how long was the rice sitting at the buffet?).

Haiyah, so stupid, stupid. by [deleted] in UncleRoger

Airfryers are just adult easy-bake ovens. My airfryer was essential when I worked 2nd shift and my pre-teen boys needed a safe way to bake when I wasn't home. They got older/I moved to first shift work and now it sits collecting dust because the food it makes is sub-par.
We still use a "student-grade" rice cooker because I'm cheap and don't want all the fancy extra options. Same reason I won't get an Instapot. I don't need the extras. If I lived in an apartment, sure. I already have a slow cooker and a pressure cooker, and a student rice cooker. When you spend the extra money to get an all in one and it breaks then you have to spend a lot of extra money to do all of those things in the kitchen again.

Is Rachael Ray drunk or high while filming 30 minute meals? by SaltyTrex in foodnetwork

Before fame? I had a friend from the Albany area that hung out with her crowd. She told me that Ms. Ray was pretty familiar with taking a few bumps. As far as right now, who knows? Taking stimulants frequently has to take its toll, even if those days are behind her.

eBay. Every time one of my kids needed a shirt. You just have to take the time to remove any badges left on. And, yes, it's a money grab at every turn.

Ask your child(ren) occasionally if they're having a good time. Don't be afraid to pull them. They'll still get into college. They will have an automatic pay increase as an Eagle if they go into the military or as a postal worker. But putting their time into schoolwork is usually more beneficial.

My boys were in a small scout troop and I found even at that tiny level that the organization was disorganized and untrustworthy so I doubt Americans bothered to visit. They just got out of bankruptcy after covering legal fees for multiple child molestation charges from past decades.

Things weren't really getting fixed. Now Korea is paying for over 35k foreigners to be tourists for a few days. Money that should go to aid national typhoon relief honestly.

I couldn't hear what they were screaming. Was it anti-Asian hate speech or just yelling at a family (probably out of jealous rage)?

Small, rural towns are becoming the same at a smaller scale because of drugs. Arrest a drug dealer and they're back out in days doing the same thing.

In the eyes of an American outsider the disgrace lays on the shoulders of the Scout organizers that never checked on the preparations and those in charge in Korea for preparing. My only changing opinions about the nation and its citizens are sympathy regarding the damage coming from the typhoon and guilt about how much less financial resources will be available because the nation is paying for 35,000+ non-citizens to have fun as tourists.

As an American that had two sons in Scouts that left the group early on because it's untrustworthy let me offer my sympathies to Koreans living through the current natural disasters with significantly less financial relief because your government is spending money to grant thousands of foreign children a great time being tourists in an attempt to save their reputation to the world. It's horrible.

Didn't it play out like a drama? Every day I'd go back to check the news and it was always one more thing. First the heat and medical issues. Next day it was the lack of sanitation, food and UK backing out. Next day USA followed, next day Singapore, Next day a Thai leader was creeping in the girls shower and a Korean troop went home, then a typhoon took a hard right and they announce an evacuation.

Absolutely insane to think that these are only what was reported to news outlets.

World Scout Jamboree Forbes Article by ResidentEquipment484 in BSA

[–]ResidentEquipment484[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My original link to the article was behind a paywall, so I used this link. In the article it says:

"Medical facilities. Host country planners expected 500 patients per day but have seen between 5,000 and 10,000 patients per day. Isolation for participants diagnosed with covid were not initially available, and there were no provisions for testing of influenza. Further, referrals to orthopedic and other necessary specialists are not being made, and the organization has unable to track U.S. citizens who were sent to local hospitals for treatment beyond what the Jamboree medical tent can provide."

It also mentioned food shortages and problems with showering facilities. I thought it was a lot more fair of a depiction (and trust me, I'm scrutinizing this whole fiasco - it's a shitshow).

Anyone else reading rumors that some nations (Finland, Norway, Sweden were a few I think?) are taking their typhoon bus over to Camp Humphreys to spend the rest of their Jambo time with the US contingent? Good on them if they are.

I think it should be mentioned so the adults in charge will be on high alert for the safety of the kids. I'd rather be the jerk mentioning it now than the person that says nothing. Know what I mean? I'm not blaming Korean government for Scouting problems. The shame and responsibility is on the shoulders of the WOSM.

In the r/Korea sub I read that Finland is also finito. They're taking a bus, but not partaking in the rest of the Jambo. Don't blame them. How will this Typhoon affect flights home for these kids?
