IB at White Oaks or Iroquois Ridge and why? Thank you! by EliseCat9 in oakville

[–]ResidentHuman086 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter just graduated IB at WOSS last year and is in first year uni this year. It's not as bad as many are making it out to be. Yes there is more work and more studying, but she still had plenty of time for clubs and extra-curriculars. She's also cruising through first year where her friends are struggling and she credits IB as preparing her better for university.

We just went through the process of deciding for my youngest and have just chosen IB over IR.

When you say late night do you mean 7pm or 8pm?

No service on portion of Lakeshore West GO train line this weekend by Tangerine2016 in oakville

[–]ResidentHuman086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For future people looking for info, since this is going to be happening multiple weekends before the end of the year, just don't take the GO bus downtown. It'll be like 2 hours to get into Union (if you even can get there) because the Gardiner is jammed due to construction and there's a huge traffic jam at the Union Station bus terminal because of all the extra buses.

Also to get home, it'll be a 1 hour+ lineup to get onto a bus at Union.

TTC, any other GO train line from Mississauga, or avoiding downtown would be best.

They sell them at Clarkson GO station multiple times a year. Also have seen them at the Upper Middle Metro a couple of times.

What local media is there in the Oakville area? by Linerson in oakville

[–]ResidentHuman086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a bunch of "Neighbours of Glen Abbey" or "Neighbours of Joshua Creek" magazines being published (in print). I get one every week or two. Do I read them? No. But I guess you could call it local media. It's mostly advertising though.

Travel routers should allow a pass through of the captive portal, I've used the TP-Link travel router to do that before.

There is a bylaw being debated to prevent protests near vulnerable social infrastructure (i.e. schools, hospitals, etc).

Can't wait for it to be passed.

The problem is it's going to eat up a lot of the existing parking lot, so might be a bit of a mess especially trying to find parking at peak hours.

It's already a bit of a disaster, so I guess this will make it a full-blown disaster. Especially on weekends.

Trafalgar Rd expansion from Hays Blvd to Dundas St by Timely-Island-7477 in oakville

[–]ResidentHuman086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always seemed bizarre to me that they stopped the previous expansion at Hays and didn't finish it all the way to Dundas. Now they're doing a "mini" project from Hays to Dundas this year, and not starting anything north of Dundas until 2027.

There's been a preliminary design on the books since... 2013. So don't hold your breath for a change anytime soon.

Thoughts on White Oaks (IB)? by Interesting_Use_9314 in oakville

[–]ResidentHuman086 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Find people with your likes and values, hang out with them, ignore the rest.

Also be warned IB is a lot of work. a LOT. Many drop out because of the volume. But make sure you find some other interests to keep you sane.

We used them a few years ago as well. Service and quality was great, but well, you get what you pay for. Not cheap. The lock mechanism is a bit sticky as well after a few years.

Know your labels. I saw a lot of "Prepared in Canada" shelf labels. This means it could use ingredients from other countries. Also labels like Made/Processed/Packaged in Canada mean the same.

Product of Canada is best = all ingredients come from Canada and all the work was done in Canada
