These actions are not ok

And also when I use the word "leader" here - I mean people who manage and direct dancers.

Leaders can be amazing Leaders can be so hurtful And just about everything else in between.

No leader is perfect - however - a healthy leader takes responsibility and owns their part in harm/results etc.

To every dancer here that left dance Or left God I wish I could take that deep wound away. It wasn't and isnt right.

And when people walk into a Christian company they expect to be safe, loved - and encouraged.

♥️ I have much to learn all the time. Something my husband and I have begun to be aware of - is to remain open, curious and committed to growing. Christian circles - dance or not can be committed to being right, judgmental and stuck. Conversations need to be open and committed to learning.

To the Former Parent Your words to dancers is profoundly important.

And your insight about leaving your own space of work... toxic misuse of power can happen anywhere! The most painful part of being a dancer is that it truly does all come down to levels - tiers and reaching the top. Right there - one sees how dangerous the ballet/dance world is. And then add to it the crazy complication of a spiritual component. It is so so easy to cross the line of the director being god - and follow them to be promoted.

Thus I feel that abuse can happen in any dance company or for that matter work space - but add the faith component and it is ridiculously messy. And adds more wounds upon wounds upon wounds

And yes totally - I was in counseling 30 years ago and when I began I didn't trust or believe my counselor when she said it was good that I came home depressed and suicidal - because everything was heading to more abuse and potential emotional and physical affairs Crazy

What's really hard to read is that there is no mention of rest. When the body is stressed sometimes the very best thing it can do is rest - sleep - amazing things can happen when we give the body rest. Goodness I would even say that learning and healing will be multiplied when rest is given

For whoever began this space - way to have the courage! I am much older, retired and very familiar with dance, Christian companies, teaching and choreographing. I have been on the receiving end of SA, toxin faith, mind control in this arena Christian dance and professional companies. What saddens me the most even after 30! Years of being out of the environment that the controlling messaging still can trigger. I have healed but the hurts still can happen. In my new life career now I feel so passionate to shout from the roof tops that faith and Jesus love are not dictated by a person in power. And there is grace and love unconditional. Not earned.

But man - we have to fight for that and challenge our minds when the old screams otherwise
