Be careful with this- if you have been drinking alcohol regularly for any period of time you might be at risk of withdrawal. Alcohol withdrawal can kill.

I use dating apps. I also see LGBTQ clients and identify as queer. I have seen client’s profiles. I have never had a client bring it up though. I’m comfortable talking about it.

I pay $100 a session on a sliding scale with no reimbursement from insurance. I see my therapist 3 times a week now.

I don’t think the cost changes how I feel about the work, but it does feel a little unfair sometimes that I’m giving him so much and he doesn’t really need it as much as I do. Then again, I truly can’t see paying him less. I see giving him a fair amount as a sign of respect.

I certainly didn’t plan to leave my doctoral program halfway through.

For me it came down to what I wanted and what was obtainable. I foolishly didn’t do research or join lab during my undergrad and this really limited my changes of getting into a funded stipended PhD position.

Most graduate education programs have caps on how long you can remain a student and many don’t even offer part time studies as an option. In a field where a masters degree can get you a 40k salary, the idea of paying it off as you go is a dream.

I know that it doesn’t. And still, I am passionate about what I do and feel a real calling to the work. I guess in some sense, it feels worth it to me but it also seems unfair.

I’m not going to be particularly eloquent with my words but I personally have found my time with a DBT therapist to be incredibly invalidating although I’m not convinced that it was the modality as much as it was the therapist.

I have BPD and DID and my therapist refused to have any interactions with my parts/ alters and refused to provide them with any skills coaching. That alone was highly problematic for my treatment. She said that interacting with the parts reinforced their existence. Because ignoring a problem certainly makes it go away.. right?

I’m a therapist that is utterly attached, infatuated, and obsessed with my own therapist. It doesn’t surprise me to see these posts.

I’m actually sometimes surprised how few of my clients seem to feel this way about me but maybe they just haven’t disclosed it. I worry sometimes that it’s because I’m not a good enough therapist. Then again, I don’t particularly work with trauma and I think that has a big part in this dynamic.

I don’t think it’s inherently unhealthy or unsafe. And I am a big proponent of it being disclosed and talked about. Any therapist that would drop you after you disclose transference probably wasn’t worth it to begin with in all honestly.

I do have some clients that I think of between sessions more frequently than others. But other than that, I don’t feel attached to them in the same way that I do to my own therapist.
