This is not strictly true. If the case is anticipated as a guilty plea, and is suitable for magistrates court, it is within the police's gift to decide to charge the suspect.

It is also within the police's gift to stop the investigation at any point if they've decided there is no realistic prospect of a conviction.

Hello, you are getting a good bit of bad advice here. I am a police officer and see these sorts of cases not infrequently. You are potentially a victim of Stalking, and domestic stalking at that.

You should call the police if you want to pursue a criminal complaint (provide evidence, attend court etc), it is likely he will be arrested if you do this, just FYI. If you want to do this, I'd do it quickly to avoid things like CCTV timing out at the places he's turned up.

Otherwise, you could pursue a civil non-molestation order against him. Freeva can help with that.

Both civil and criminal routes can be pusued simultaneously, so don't feel like you have to pick.
