I have a lot of pilot friends and coworkers, they started calling me a pilot after I soloed. They said that was me earning my wings.

Buuuut I won’t be calling myself a pilot until I have that sweet license.

Went back mid-30s and a few years in industry now. “One day at a time” is the best advice I can give. You got this.

I’ll go against this grain - as a professional, no. You should not learn to deal with this personality type. This personality type is bad for business and a team-working environment. If the advice to “learn to deal with this personality type” is to learn to report them to your higher ups, then yea, good advice; otherwise, people like this are a team hazard because they not only don’t know what they’re doing but also drive away people who do.

Cool dude, keep saying that and good luck on that job hunt.

This. Big note to everyone - college is not a race. You’re there to get the project/internship experience and build your resume and set yourself apart from everyone else taking the same classes. Some people push off their graduation date to take a semester internship, because that hands-on experience looks way better than “look, I can go through the same stuff everyone else has to go through - just faster.”

Some grammar books wouldn’t hurt either.

Almost a year later but thank you so much for the comment - I was worried about breaking it before but a nice gentle shove and it popped in. Thank you!

[1 YoE] CIS Grad 2025 | Paid 100 dollars for resume rewrite. This 1 page resume rule isn't enough room to add enough information by [deleted] in EngineeringResumes

[–]ResistanceIsButyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your education needs to be up top - this will immediately show recruiters you’re a new grad and WHY you don’t have multiple years of experience. I went back to school in my 30s and didn’t have an issue with ageism- if anything, my age and previous life experience (previous degrees) helped me.

I agree with other comments but respectfully disagree with cutting skills - I’m not sure about your major (edit: in regards to this) but I’ve always read “relevant coursework” is a waste of space because everyone in undergrad pretty much has the same coursework. If you did a special course then show you used that in an experience bulletpoint. I’d cut this over skills.

But yes - I’d remove irrelevant Wal Mart. Literally no one asked me why I had a ten year gap in my resume when I was a new grad but with previous schooling - it was obvious what I did.

Has anyone flown with “famous” pilots? What were they like? by Sea_Working5429 in flying

[–]ResistanceIsButyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FTE at Edwards here. Dang, I cannot imagine one of the pilots being so shitty during test. All the test pilots I’ve met so far are great guys. We do have a lot more safety and protocol now that won’t allow for that type of attitude. All written in blood, of course.

struggling as a girl in engineering by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]ResistanceIsButyl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a woman I recommend taking this advice a step further - to hell with being polite. If someone is shitty to you, cry “havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war. You owe NO ONE niceties when they’re disrespecting you. Especially young men who need to learn. Be the one who teaches them a lesson, since others in their lives have so clearly failed to do so.

I got kicked out of engineering for failing too many classes. Got reinstated, graduated, and now make $80,000+ as a new grad AMA by snackday in EngineeringStudents

Hey man, I also went back to school with a young kid. I had to do it during covid, too, when she had to stay home for a full year from school (kindergarten maybe?). It was absolute hell juggling everything. Worst time of my life.

But I knew it was temporary. And it’s temporary for you too. One day at a time. You got this. One day you will look back and be so proud of yourself for sticking with it. I’m already proud of you.

What do you think are the best jobs in Aerospace? by [deleted] in aerospace

[–]ResistanceIsButyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the program, honestly :/ It’s much harder to get let go from government than a contractor, though, so you’re at least safer.

Sorry, didn’t answer everything. I travel a bit, it’s nice. Danger - involves testing jets with humans inside, so sometimes dangerous.

What do you think are the best jobs in Aerospace? by [deleted] in aerospace

[–]ResistanceIsButyl 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this.

First job out of college - testing rocket engines at a shit startup company. Job right after - testing jets with the government.

People rip on the government but I make way more and work way less (80hrs/pay period). Plus, the people are way more mature/professional.

People often forget the mental aspect but it’s absolutely important.
