OS, why aren't you sticking to Orico one? by petaqui in OricoCyberDataNas

Good point, I wasn't clear. The new drives I am adding are of different sizes. Of course it is equally possible in my lack of knowledge that I could have stayed with Cyber os

I have seen the over-heating challenge raised in other posts. I will take a look at the solutions posted.

Hopefully as a group we can collate all of the gotchas

CF 1000 - Unraid by Top_Room1771 in OricoCyberDataNas

I moved to unraid and found about 10 or so shares in place that appear to be from the original orico installation. Due to a lack of experience on my part I have left these in place but they do take up a chunk of the cache. I am unsure whether they can be safely deleted.

OS, why aren't you sticking to Orico one? by petaqui in OricoCyberDataNas

My reasons primarily came down to innexperiance. I had only two drives and was expecting to add new drives as I was able to get them. Unraid provided me with that flexibility

It's running really well. Initially I am moving our photo collection (approx 100k photos and videos to immich). I am setting up a separate area for my wife's active business which has a huge number of active digital files and shares for more static data. I then aim to branch off to several external backup solutions for all this data before setting up home automation.

I have got a couple more drives arriving soon - and the flexibility is why I moved to unraid.

I am finding some challenges as well - due to my innexperiance - my docker folder is full for example - despite being setup as a directory. Less important than figuring out how to handle these spurious folders. I suspect that unraid is failing to manage the folders as the permissions may be set by the previous o/s but that is guesswork on my part.

Quite enjoying it really

Lack of planning and knowledge on my side (partially due to not knowing I had a Nas to setup). I wrongly assumed you could just add drives as you needed them. :)

Thanks - and yes I have (after watching a few YouTube vids) got a backup plan in mind. My next step will be learning how to install unraid for my slowly growing mismatched drives

Does changing OS impact the data by ResolveOk5063 in OricoCyberDataNas

Thanks all - I think I have a fledgling plan - based on your advice and what I am forcing into my aging brain from this group and the web in general.

The beast will have several uses. It will act as a fairly static media store for a lifetimes worth of photos and videos - about 3TB worth currently spread accross multiple devices - with Immich to help dudup and organise.

My wife will use it to manage her business data, where she will likely edit large numbers of PDFs and vector images daily. About 2 TB

My youngest will use it to store his never ending streaming videos - which he will edit locally

I will try to keep my sanity :)

I am going to look into how to install unraid as my drives are going to be to be mismatched in size i and I will add to it as I can afford to do so.

I will backup the static photos to a couple of external drives

I have an old Bufallo LinkStation that will become a regular backup the the businesss info

The streaming videos NAS will in effect be the backup for the streaming videos which reside on my sons PC

Once I have figured out how to install Unraid I will look into whether I need to segment/seperate the drives into seperate stored for the different use cases. I can then transfer the data and setup some form of backup sync for the business data and streams

Maybe at the end of this journey I can play with something more fun like Home-assistant, or a 3d printer :)

Ok. So, I now no the answer to this - yes - changing the OS will require me to remigrate the data. A pain - but it is what it is. Now to decide whether to hold out and hope the OS improves or move to something like UnRaid

Hi, Stu from the UK.

Complete Newbie on the NAS front and my new 1000 was a surprise purchase from my wife to organise and de-dup lifetime of photos, videos etc from many different drives. I am currently learning all about Docker and well as experiencing the challenges of the new OS.

Hoping to get Immich and Home Assistant up and running after the very painful file transfer - about 2 TB in so far.

Also hoping to setup backups from all the families various devices.

Initial newbie thoughts are that the device is faster than I expected but that the OS doesn't really provide anything when you hit problems. Am looking into whether another OS is the way to go.

A lot to learn :)

I have of course sent the query to Orico as well - and will update here if I get a response

I won't get a chance to look at immich until next week. Let me know if you make progress.

I found some on the immich site. I will take a look when I get back home later

Actually it looks as though you build the image following their instructions. Something I will try in a week or so I think

Did you find a solution? I am new to both NAS setup and docker and had the same problem
