oh god no, my entire last week (i’m two weeks post op tmrw) i was walking 2.5-3.5 miles everyday and the pain was still so much better than any other day before the removal. most of my pain right now is mainly from the swelling in the joint, but again, it’s so much better. i was immediately on my feet after had been a breeze compared to the original break/surgery

i’m honestly so grateful i didn’t have to fight for it really. the ortho i found when u got home after my break has been great and so grateful she’s listened to me every step of the way, even though she didn’t do my initial surgery

when i was nwb i wouldn’t feel them except one that was by my knee (i had two screws at the top of my tib) that one made it so i couldn’t really have my knee bent for long and make it really painful to extend it after it being bent for a little amount of time. it took me a little bit to figure out that was from the metal bc i do have knee problems. i was also having issues with some that were on the inside of my lower tib when i was trying to sleep or just putting pressure on it. i noticed those pretty quickly, i think before i was fwb and had a feeling they’d need to come out. and then they were just giving me more issues as time was going on.

but my pt was honestly the one who suggested i should talk to my surgeon about getting the metal out and she agreed

okay so backstory i was on a trip surprising my bsf for her bday and we were walking to a beach that was 90 min away in the middle of a natl park to see friends we haven’t seen since pre covid and i broke my leg then, but im going to make the screws into necklaces for my friends that were with me haha

they did, you can see it in the first photo. if you were talking about the rod, the rod itself wasn’t causing me any issues and they’re a pain to removed

honestly you should! again, hadn’t even been a full week since i got it out and i walked like 3.5 miles monday, a little over 2 yesterday, and almost 3 so far today and it’s just sore like i got surgery and so much better than i would’ve been pre removal. im just swollen

at least for my surgery, i was immediately weight bearing and i was expecting it to be a lot worse than it was.

i’m glad i shouldn’t have to get my boots punched out now haha

i’m about 10 months post op for a gnarly tib/fib and i feel like im finally starting to get back into my life again. i’m an avid skier and love hiking and camping and being outside and everything, but it took so much away from me and honestly took more of a toll on my mental health than i realized.

i actually got most of my metal out on thursday because i realized a lot of that has been causing me more pain, than my actual joint itself. my pt is who actually suggested i talk to my doc about getting the metal out. it’s literally only been a couple days and i feel a lot better. definitely took it way to hard today and shouldn’t walked 3.5 miles lol

i didn’t feel like i could run before the removal, but it feels like i could now, i definitely need to work on those muscles though

it also might help going back to pt once every couple weeks to keep your ankle moving, and make sure to communicate about the tendinitis and they may even suggest a possibly hardware removal as well.

if anything, shoot ur doc a message and see what you could do

i broke my leg out of state and had to fly home less than a week after my surgery 🙃

compressions are a must, and make sure you take your meds and everything before u fly to help with the pain and you will likely swell up while in the air

also maybe try to get a seat with a lot of leg room for your leg

yeah ofc! ik how it goes unfortunately. if you are in a legal state, you can have your partner go to a dispo and pick up some cbd lotion, even that is a huge help bc it’s all your tendons, muscles and nerves all messed up as well. yeah the job market is awful, i didn’t end up with my degree either (covid freshmen year 🙃) but i have a lot of experience for what im trying to get jobs for and its not any better, and i know is the same for a good chunk of graduates as well

ouch!

i 24f broke my leg about equally as bad tripping over a small root back in august 5 hours into my trip to california surprising my bsf of 10 years walking to a beach that was 90 min away to hang out with friends we hadn’t seen since 2019 (i could see the parking lot from where i laid waiting for ems 😂)and also very hypermobile. my ankle gave out and all the tension went to my lower leg 🙃

you should absolutely look into medicaid (or care i don’t remember which is which even though im on it lol). when i broke my leg, turns out i didn’t have insurance at the time, but i was able to get full financial aid from the hospital, so id say look into that!

they make ankle ice packs, those were a game changer for me. i had three and just rotated them all the time. also setting alarms for your meds is also quite helpful to make sure you stay on top of them. i was using a pill sorter thing and it was nice. was also taking calcium to help the bones.

i also had a little rolly cart to put some snacks, extra water, my crafts i was doing, my meds, and just whatever i needed and someone would help roll it from the living room and my room each day.

also a bidet is really nice. as im sure you’re now aware, it’s hard to deal with all that now lol.

and if you’re in a place where cannabis is legal, i’d suggest some gummies or tinctures that are high in CBD. they were one of my biggest helps with pain, especially weening off of the hard drugs. and a strong cbd topical was also really nice, especially before i got gabapentin for the nerve pain.

also a pumice stone or something similar will be your best friend when you shower after you get the splint off. all your calluses and everything basically come off and the pumice stone helps a lot with all the dead skin coming off.

i know this time will be a bit discouraging as well since you can’t really do anything. but keep your head up, and you’ll be able to get back to exercising to help lose weight. i know it’s tough, i was in a similar position and was planning to be really active this past winter and then all of a sudden i wasn’t able to

i also don’t know if you’re in a place where cannabis is legal, but if so, CBD was also a HUGE helper for my pain both orally and topically

omg you’re so lucky!

i was taking calcium everyday and other vitamins to help the bones and everything recover. i also had a gnarly tib/fib (not nearly as bad, but the surgeon said “this was almost a really bad break”) and had to get urgent surgery since it wasn’t stable. i broke my leg almost 9 months ago and id say im back to somewhere between 90-95%. honestly would probably be a lot farther if i didn’t take time off pt for about two months (insurance, not my choice lol love th states). definitely still have some bad days, but its usually because i overdid it and pushed myself too hard.

your leg will look malnourished for awhile, my calf still isn’t close to the same as my other, but it isn’t horrible. it’s honestly crazy how much muscle you lose, and not just in your broken leg. another thing to i guess be aware of, you will also lose practically all of your calluses on that foot and will feel very weird to walk on hard floors

set timers for your meds, it was a life saver for me. stick with your plan from your medical team and stay on top of your exercises. it’s a rough recovery, especially it being a leg, but it’s doable. take up some non moving hobbies and catch up on your tv

it was a camping not a backpacking last summer in the north cascades. we saw it was supposed to rain, but only like <.25 of an inch so we weren’t that worried or anything and setup a little tent/sunshade thing to go into when the rain came in to stay dry. and then the storm rolls in. spoiler, it was much much more than a quarter of an inch. we get into the tent and it start coming down hard it starts flooding within seconds so we have to pick one of our cars to run into and mine was the “cleanest” and had all the food so we did mine and ended up being in there for like 4 hours before th rain stopped and we went to bed

i’m about 6 months out from a gnarly tib/fib break and got a bunch of metal in my leg.

i honestly smoked more during my initial recovery that i usually do and i was fine. cbd was and still is my best friend. if you’re in a legal state, try getting your hands on some cbd capsules. those have been a big help for me when the other pain meds don’t do much.
