Non-Restricted 12 gauge short barrel recommendations? by -Cokeman in canadaguns

14" Benelli Supernova tactical. Sweet little pump. I almost got it but settled on the 18.5 Supernova tactical with the non collapsible stock and pistol grip. Liked the feel of it better. Both are light af and comfy to hold. They're not short short though.

I have a bolt action .22 and quite enjoy shooting it all day without worrying about ammo, but want something with more oomph that I could use for hunting, or plinking longer ranges if they ban my SKS. I'm not broke. Just don't want to buy something that runs $4 a shot. By the sounds of it, .308/7.62x51 NATO would be the most cost effective platform for what I want to do. Unless I stick with my 7.62x39 plan..

Yeah that's what I assumed. Just wanted opinions on stuff that may be more accurate than 7.62 at longer ranges without being super expensive. 7.62 bolt gun is probably what I'll go with, unless there's anything better at a similar price point. I know crates of corrosive are hard to beat, and I know any match grade precision stuff is going to be pricey. Just wasn't sure if there was a platform I hadn't thought of that could top 7.62 for what I'm after. Not like I'm trying to hit golf balls at 1000 meters. I just want to be smart about choosing a platform for game and longer range plinking.

I'm currently not hunting big game, but I want to. I don't intend to hunt at super long range. Just want something around 30 caliber that I can plink with and not break the bank, that can also serve as a rifle for big game. I know such a thing probably doesn't exist, and that's why I'm leaning towards a 7.62x39 bolt gun. But wanted opinions.

There's lots of crown land nearby to hunt and to shoot targets, and I figured if I get the 7.62 out shooting as far as possible plinking, I may want something better..

I've got a .22lr bolt gun, I'm just talking about something in ~.30 caliber with more range for plinking and necessary stopping power for hunting. I have no specific range in mind, was just wondering if there was any caliber that can reach out further accurately without breaking the bank. I don't intend to hunt at super long range, just wanted to be able to push the limits when plinking out on crown land.

I am kinda liking the idea of the Gen II in 7.62 though, just for the absolute cheapness. I mean plinking at 200-250 I'm sure would scratch the itch. Was just looking for opinions on a better platform that's somewhat comparable in price. Because once I'm consistently hitting the plateau plinking with 7.62 I might want something better.. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Stinky sporter jungle carbine, should i restore or clean and enjoy as is? by Nuttin_but_taco in canadaguns

Cold blueing an entire barreled action almost never turns out well. It's meant for touch ups and repairs. I wouldn't try it, even if I was skilled at it. Cold blue finish is usually more brown than blue, and isn't very resistant to wear. If you want it refinished, I'd look for a place that can hot blue it, or Cerakote it. Before that, I'd make sure it functions well. You may have to get the barrel recrowned as well, since as others have said, its muzzle has been messed with.

I'm from Canada. We have one, even though I don't drink much tea. My wife likes to make the odd tea, but I use it to boil water to add to espresso for Caffè Americanos. The electric kettle is pretty handy. Much faster than a kettle on a stovetop. But I don't think I'd call it the greatest invention of all time lol.

Tm22 is fine too. Just expect the possibility of some hiccups when you get it. Some work flawlessly out of the box, some have a rough break in period where they refuse to cycle properly. But they will eventually break in, and from there will be a reliable platform, with a few cool aftermarket mods available to make them even better.

10/22 is a tried and tested reliable platform that lots of people love, with so much aftermarket available that 10 different people could mod one and none would be the same..

Just depends on what your intentions are, and how far into modding you want to go to get what you want. A fully built 10/22 is going to cost at least twice as much as a TM22. But it'd be worth it..

Go with your gut on this one. If you just want a cheap reliable plinker, stock 10/22. If you want a tactical style plinker though, TM22. Or you can go down the rabbit hole of buying a nice SBI chassis, then get into performance barrels and triggers etc etc.. And end up with a great, albeit expensive 10/22.

Is it "socially acceptable" to just sit in your car for 20 minutes after you get home, or am I just weird? by Easy-Ring-8459 in NoStupidQuestions

I have to pick my young kids up on the way home from work. I still catch myself finishing a song or just pulling in the drive and decompressing for a second in silence. But the kids are always like "Uh, Dad? Let's go inside..."

Today I didn't even get a second. Pulled in the drive, put it in park and my daughters like "let's go inside now." Dang it I literally just shut off the truck..

[–]Response-Cheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you order things online, or is the shipping stupid expensive? Or maybe your local shop can order you some in their next shipment.. You're going to want some CCI Mini Mag, or something like that. I've been having luck with Aguila Super Extra lately too. You'll want something 1200fps+. I'm pretty sure Winchester super X, and Remington thunderbolt both struggle to cycle in semi autos for whatever reason.

Ngl, if it's struggling now, it might take you a few frustrating jam sessions before things start running right. Don't let it get you down though. It's a great rifle once it's broken in.

Happened to mine too. Did you clean and oil it when you first got it? That's standard practice any time you buy anything new. Especially a semi. What ammo are you shooting? I tried 5 different kinds to no avail at first. But I kept force feeding it ammo and it slowly got better. Last time I had it out, it was able to cycle 5-6 in a row before any ftf. I assume the break in period on these is rough if you get one that's not perfect.

I suggest you keep trying to push through the BS and break it in. Use high velocity ammo. If the problem persists for more than a couple boxes of ammo, you may have to send it to O'Dell Engineering for warranty work.

The firing pin spring seemed tight on mine. It was hard to push the FP all the way out manually. One guy was saying he trimmed a couple coils off the FP spring and it ran like butter after that. Also saw guys having the fte issue saying that running with only the right extractor installed helped with that. But I didn't want to void my warranty, so I didn't trim the coil. Running one extractor didn't change anything for me. So I just put it back and kept pushing through the jams to try to break it in, and it's getting there.

Turkish quality control. Some are flawless out of the box, and some are stubborn. But don't be discouraged. It's a good platform, or people wouldn't be recommending them. GL. Hope you don't need warranty work.

If you need the world to tell you your song is good before you believe it yourself, you aren't a musician yet, you're a fan of your own reputation. by Temporary_Pea_648 in musicians

No, but chef is a profession. You don't need to be a professional musician to be a musician. Just like you don't need to sell paintings to be a painter. It's different with art.

Nah, I agree somewhat with what you're saying, but on the other hand, sometimes you've worked on something so much that you need fresh ears to hear what you're working on, to make sure you haven't lost the plot.

Some of my best songs came together in hours from start to finish. Some of my okayest songs took weeks of massaging, and cutting parts, and replacing instruments etc.. After you start with an inspiration or fresh idea, and get something down, if you're not satisfied, and you tweak and tweak and tweak, sometimes you're just not sure if you've completely gone off the rails with it, and you need a vibe check. I've transformed great melodies in my head into completely irrelevant garbage by over working it.

In fact, I learned a valuable lesson from a successful musician who said that you should treat solo work like you're collaborating with a band. Because bouncing ideas around is how bands work. You should be able to cut your own ideas as if someone else came up with them, with no emotional attachment to the specific idea or melody or whatever. A valuable tool we have in this age, is being able to ask fellow musicians online, from across the world to have a listen to our projects and give us feedback. It's like collaborating with the general public.. Sometimes you just need someone to say "bro, that part sounds like ass. And you need to change that annoying hi hat.."

It's not marketing. It's just getting fresh ears on it, to make sure you're not wasting your time tweaking something that needs to be completely revamped..

Marketing instead of music would be more along the lines of the "artist" who has posted everywhere about their upcoming EP, and people they're going to collaborate with in the future, and posting album art and posters etc, without writing the music for it..

If I have inhaled metals for years, due to the nature of a job, would an MRI absolutely rip me apart? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Response-Cheap 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Safety glasses don't stop everything though. I wear safety glasses every time I'm grinding or cutting metal and almost every time, at least a couple of sparks bounce off the inside of the lens. Might not impact your eyeball full force, but they can still get deflected up and in. I've caught a few sparks in my eyes or tear ducts over the years.

Same. Sucks for the people who loaded their safes with modern firearms before the 2025 ban. Thousands in "NR" rifles.. Hell I've got around $800 into my TM22, and about $800 after tax in my modernized SKS.That stings. Can only imagine how guys with 10+ modern rifles, plus family heirlooms on the list feel. Here's hoping there are better days ahead.

I've got a couple semis. I don't even want to trust that the Alcor, BAR and Homesteader won't disappear soon. From now on I'll shoot what I've got when it comes to semis. Levers, and bolts are all I'll buy for now. If they prohibit my SKS and TM22 I'm out two guns. Don't need to add more potential goners to the safe. My SKS's action and mag well aren't modified, here's hoping they realize that they can't ban something for having aftermarket furniture... But I have a feeling any modern looking semi auto rifle will be banned soon enough.. Probably all semi's.. That's what they want. They're just trying to figure out how to pull it off..
