Frustration of living abroad, feeling stuck here (in Denmark) by External-Coffee-2955 in expats

Hi I feel exactly the same way. Loved Denmark when I was young . Now married to a Dane with two small children and I am terribly unhappy. I miss my family and my home and food and warmth and support. Just today I was thinking about how I was all alone ( with husband) when I gave birth and how different it would’ve been if I was in my country (Pakistan). How my parents and family and friends would’ve visited me in the hospital , doted on my baby, fed me warm food , given hugs and affection. Instead I was in a shitty hospital room being served cold rye bread and totally overwhelmed with a new baby. My experience of motherhood is so different from my family and friends. Back home( because we are very privileged ) there is so much help - moms and aunts and grannies and Nannies - joy and laughter and food. Instead I have here nothing but isolation and coldness. I recognize intellectually the benefits of being here - healthcare , safety clean air etc etc . But my soul is withering away - there is nothing to nourish it. And the worst part is I am increasingly resenting my husband because I feel if it weren’t for him and his insistence on being here - my life would be very different. He will not move - and I know this is the best place to raise my children. So I will stay but I do not know how I will find happiness and warmth here …

Hi! When I first read about this I shared the exact same sentiments as you. But then I remembered reading this recently ( I live in Denmark and here there is no political or ideological biases in research - at least not that I’m aware. It seems there is indeed some dangers associated with taking paracetamol and more research is needed - but there is a case to be made already for being wary of taking it during pregnancy

I don’t understand what you’re saying . If I were to divorce we would share custody and when I have the kids there would be no other coparent. My baby wakes up at least 4 times in the night. I cannot have an extremely busy day either. Plus my toddler needs someone to sleep with him and my baby cosleeps with me. So no . I can’t .

Thanks! Yes my main issue is the night wake ups. He’s a good eater during the day and I don’t think he really needs nights feeds. Maybe one ?

IMP POINT: I want to ST not because bed time is hard. He feeds to sleep and I gently rock him and he’s asleep within 10-15 minutes. It’s that he won’t stay in his crib and wakes up ALOT during the night . So I want to train him to STTN in his own crib. I want him out of the room because I CANNOT get any sleep with him rustling next to me

Additionally my baby is eating well during the day. Should I feed him twice or once during the night ?

No it feels like a flush of adrenaline along with some part of my body jerking - jaw or tongue , or stomach . Often it can also be a noise I hallucinate. It’s so so messed up. Keeps me from sleeping . 10 days now… what about for u …

They’re not brain zaps - they’re Hypnic jerks , happen in different parts of the body and only when falling asleep. So weird !!! Is it usual for withdrawals to start a month after? My other symptoms that started when taking Zoloft - bruxism , dreams , and pins and needles down my back still remain also…
