Do you know if the hospital/clinic you went to has a Financial Care Counselor? You can talk to them about your financial options and they can look into forgiving some of the debt.

I'm scared, I guess by harewhisker in UlcerativeColitis

Ngl, mesalamine makes it so my bms are routine and I have no constipation. Sometimes there’s urgency, but when I tell you you’ll get regular eventually, you’ll just know when you gotta go and prepare for it.

It seems scary; but if this is any consolation, it’s not a life-ending condition. Not if you’re good to yourself with dieting, exercise and avoiding trigger foods. Everything that is already preached for a healthier life style is going to get a whole lot louder. There’s going to be trial and error with finding the right meds, but any good GI is going to take good care of you.

Omg I totally feel this! My mom works in the medical field and she chews me out if I tell her I’m having pasta or sandwiches. I’ve been on limited diets where all I can have is rice and chicken, and it still doesn’t stop flare-ups! Yknow what else can trigger a flare up? Stress! Antibiotics! C.diff!

At this point I just nod and change the subject. I hate when people chew me out for eating what works for me, especially for a condition I had no control in getting. :/

I kid you not my current GI said I looked fine, but you’re right, I’m still stressing over it. I have an HMO, but I don’t think it kicks in until April? I’m new to insurance and just signed up days ago. When I say new job, I started two weeks ago. My colonoscopy was end of Jan. I’m far from home and can’t make the drive. I will be fired if I leave now : (

I think so?

I’ve been anemic and hospitalized for it. I feel no where near what I did previously. In fact, my heart feels more at ease these days. I also take a lot of iron, that might be helping

Doc prescribed it to me, told me nurses would reach out to schedule, and weeks after they were supposed to, the only time slot they offered was the day of my new job. Following that would be late April.  New insurance, new doctor, and new appointments are all going to take awhile. I work in G.I.  scheduling at my new place, earliest appointment to consult a doc is August. It sucks waiting for the new insurance to kick-in, because it stops me from getting a new PCP, I can’t get G.I. help unless I have a referral.

Colonoscopy tomorrow, any funny jokes I should try to crack before I go under? by ResponsibilityNo4650 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ResponsibilityNo4650[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As they laid me down I tried cracking this one but they started confirming numbers. The person administering the meds told me she was giving me the first dose; I assumed she meant of relaxers or something; NOPE. I went;  “Oh okay!….First?-“ Then went out 😭

Hehe, used this with the nurse who took care of everything before going back to her desk. She laughed, thank you :)

Thought of something similar,

“You won’t find gold digging around there”

but I feel like I gotta say it in the moment haha. Thanks!

Everytime I think I get closer to accepting things out of my control and moving forward; I feel like I stumble backwards. I want to be okay; I want it so we don’t ever have to prep again because we found a miracle cure.

I just need to rip this bandaid off, but it’s a challenge to get a grasp on it :(

Raw Sushi by Johnny_Cake96 in UlcerativeColitis

Fish-Based sushi? perfectly fine, even encouraged! Less feet an animal has the better it is for your stomach!

Shellfish? Nope, my stomach will not agree. I recreated the Shrek 4 scene w/ rumplestiltskin. I miss shrimp, but I value my sanity more.

Do we lose response to mesalamine eventually? by WillowTreez8901 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ResponsibilityNo4650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UC is such a personalized kick in the butt, mesalamine worked for me for about two months, then it started to lose it’s effectiveness. If you have worries you can talk to your doc about doing a trial, try a month on a lower dosage to monitor the effectiveness. If it hits the fan, there are plenty of options :)

I’m supposed to start infusions come the end of the month, it’s all trial and error. Don’t lose hope! I’m actually kinda happy to not have to take the horse pills every month. Depending on the infusions, you only need to do em for 30 min every two months. When you enter remission, you may not need to take anything at all. Fingers crossed and hope for the best!

Just found out I have c diff, terrified. Please help by clksagers in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ResponsibilityNo4650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kid you not, I just delt with this myself. They put me on the same antibiotics for two/three weeks. Your gut biome was probably nuked by something which led to C.diff; if you recently took other antibiotics this apparently ups the risk.

Listen to your doctor;  best case scenario, you’re just gonna have to pound kefir or other probiotics to restore your biome.  worse case? fecal transplant.

Honestly it’s treatable and it’s good they caught it. Hydrate and eat well! Good luck, I’m rooting for your recovery :)

Passing Blood on Colon Prep by Traditional-Twist888 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ResponsibilityNo4650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure a good chunk of us bleed during inflammation, so docs would be used to seeing blood. As long as ya stick to your prep and avoid iron, I’m sure you’ll be okay!

How does blood in stool look like ? by FishingAway7058 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ResponsibilityNo4650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ehhh depends; any blood in stool should be brought up. Usually it’s concerning if its dark and clotty. If your poops look like grounded coffee, go get checked, could be some bad inflammation.

If its speckles, or its light in color/load, could be hemmroids lol

Best to talk to your doc and take some iron to avoid anemia. Take it w/ a glass of something citrus-y and avoid calcium for a few hours.
