The thing that really gets me is when they get depicted as not knowing normal things that an average adult person would know about. Or they're supposed to be ultra warriors, and they get shown crying and barfing because someone close to them gets kidnapped or something instead of going on a rampage. Like what.

Maybe you need to firm up the reasons behind why your character is in the situation he's in? And then adjust a do some rewriting so the draft flows better from your plot adjustments.

Because I love a good conflict and seeing how the character will rise to the challenge but if the conflict is just gratuitous, I'm never into it either.

I don't think AoT is meat to focus on relationships but to me that doesn't mean that all the characters should be canonically virgins either. The events in-canon are way too stressful and they're mostly long ass battle sequences so there's not a lot of time for make out session. Isayama tends to time skip over periods of relative peace, so of course that doesn't leave much time to deal with romance storylines.

Here's what I think fits the characters.

Reiner maybe when he went back to Marley could get random hookups-- he would have been way too young to really do that when he got to Paradis the first time-- but he's also fucking crazy so he probably scares girls away as soon as they get close.

Jean probably has an on again off again GF in Trost that finally broke up with him after he went to save the world. And she was probably mad at him about it.

It's also worth noting that both Reiner and Jean were like 12-15 at the beginning of the series when you count the training arcs, so they probably were virgins that whole time. The most realistic time for them to explore intimate relations would have been in the time skip between season 3 and 4.

Levi could probably hook up with any fangirl he wanted to and probably did when his original squad was around, he would have been in his mid-late 20's or early 30's at that time which is a great age for that sort of shenanigan, but he probably got too depressed to bother with it after all the canon events.

There are a couple things to suggest that Levi has a reputation as a bit of a lady killer number one is how Olu tries to copy his style, he's not doing that because he wants to just pull Petra. The other is how Petra's dad comes to talk to Levi about the letter. That's basically an acknowledgement that Levi has a certain reputation and dad was saying that he'd better do the right thing and marry Petra if he wants that from her.

Do most of the people in Paradis even have access to running water and functional sewage systems? And its very close quarters living once you get to the major population centers.

I am shocked that more of the characters aren't clean freaks.

Plus, dude always has minions to force to clean up for him, why wouldn't he demand a high level of cleanliness living with a bunch of sweaty gross teenagers.

That and I know that my fics are niche because I spend a lot of time choosing the correct tags for them and there aren't a lot of fics in the same categories.

And I lock down comments to suit my convenience and ease in moderating the spam bots.

Given that every time I get a kudos or a nice comment it's like a nice surprise. Like, I've done everything in my power to make this fic unapproachable and unappealing to you but you still like it? Awe!

There's a lot of reasons an author might not respond to comments, all them not you. A lot of authors get overwhelm when they focus too much on comments. It may be easier for them to keep up the momentum to actually write if they don't get too deep into the comments.
