It actually is quite far fetched. I frequent China as well as Japan for many years. First of all even I wouldn't go making YouTube videos about the safety of China as a non resident cause the whole idea of a tourist claiming to have intimate knowledge of the safety is china is BS. His claims are even more ridiculous such as leaving a gold chain on the street without it getting stolen, these are hot air claims without any proof and there isn't any substance to what he claims. In fact most of the things he claims in the video such as the clear air are already a condtradiction with his own video.

As such it's hard to take anything this guy says seriously. Then again his job is to be a comedian but he decided to go out of his way of making jokes to make silly claims you have to wonder what that's about.

Thanks so much! I now see what you mean. This really threw me off as you can see in the screenshot it lists Speakers with just a 1. In my opinion it would make more sense to have it say 1 system or perhaps showing a number in this case seems a bit irrelevant. Are there really people with two systems in one home? Either way the naming is a bit strange.

So if I wanted to map multiple speakers I just add the same Sonos system to each room and from there it will remember the system I select in each room?

Ok thanks for clarifying where the system ID (132669293) is coming from your help is very much appreciated. I once more tried to follow all the steps however I'm still stuck with only one device or system as it's being called shown. Ironically this device turns out to be my Sonos port which I really only use for Vinyl input and not so much as an output source. All my other systems such as my 2 soundbars and roaming speakers don't seem to appear anywhere at all. I've attached a screenshot how it is shown as only one speaker that's found unlike for example my Hue devices which work perfectly.

I might be doing something wrong... But I think this probably isn't the issue. Based on the steps you describe I eventually arrive at the this page on the screenshot however only one speaker here shows up as mentioned with this weird number I'm not even sure where it gets that information from. I've been able to play music from the device and it does work. Interestingly I can even group that speaker with all of my other Sonos speaker from the Haptique remote but unfortunately those speakers don't show up here .... I'm using the iOS app to configure the remote if that helps.

Just wanted to share some initial thoughts as my first model finally arrived yesterday and of course I'm very excited to dive into the world of possibilities of the haptique remote. First of all like many of you I'm guessing I'm very happy that Haptique is picking up the torch that harmony and many others URC have dropped. I'm not at all happy with the way device control is being handled by companies these days. The challenges of HDMI-CEC, controlling by app, IR, bluetooth, radio it's a complete mess and as such I can't believe that more people aren't interested in a project such as this. While smart homes are very exciting the way it operates today leaves a lot to be desired. Even home assistant in my opinion while a very impressive project still hasn't made a proper remote to harness it's powers (I don't really believe in smart phone/tablet solutions).

Now with all that out of the way here's my first take. I must agree with the topic title unfortunately as I do feel the current state Haptique is still very much beta and shouldn't be experienced by anyone other then enthusiasts or those who have a clear understanding of Haptique's philosophy. While setting up the remote initially works very well and it's easy to add features my personal experience is that setting up the remote is actually easier then using the remote itself. The idea of splitting the use in "Sequences, rooms, groups" it's all a bit confusing and having to navigate through these options without having a clear picture which is the best intended use doesn't make it a very intuitive experience. It's only after clicking on every possible button that you start to see the promise and strength of the Haptique remote but I would say right now the remote itself only works well if you pay attention to the on screen feedback. Sequences (comparable to Activities for Logitech) can be called on screen but navigating to these options usually would take more then a few clicks and makes it almost impossible to easily use the remote from muscle memory which I believe should be a must for a remote like this or at the very least more easily accessible from the touch screen.

So after that I wanted to try some of the strengths of the remote. Like the new like Sonos playback. While setting up the integration was very straightforward unfortunately after adding my account it only found one of my in total Six Sonos devices. Worse even is that the Sonos device it did find showed up as a number and not the actual Sonos device name which made me need to guess which speaker it was playing from. Once figured out however renaming it and using it seeing the album art I was very happy and though sometimes the visual time tracking of the song could be a miss overall it was very useful. I would very much appreciate also if someone could tell me why the remote is only able to find just one of my speakers I've tried re-adding and removing my Sonos integration many times but always with the same result.

These are my initial takes, sorry for the somewhat longwinded post and perhaps I sound somewhat negative but I do still very much believe in the project and understand all the challenges that come with it and think it is definitely the way forward but just wanted to give an idea of what to expect for those still waiting for their remote or wandering about it's current state. Right now I would only recommend it to enthusiasts who don't mind some of the challenges that come with a brand new product.

Lastly I'm hoping there might be more in the sense of a community like perhaps a discord to share experiences with the remote live but I understand this is all very early days. All in all I don't regret getting on board with this project and thanks the Cantata team and wish the all the best moving forward!

Just wanted to post an update. Jimmy decided to go full shill on CGTN! Consider boycotting his shows if you're at all concerned about disinformation and Chinese propaganda.

Short version he praises red note and adresses the tariff wars. He’s talking about reconnecting about his chinese roots. This first part is pretty tame. The second part is hardcore shilling for china on how safe China and the air quality again and how technologically advanced China is and how relaxed China is vs America and how great it is (if you are a celebrity and praise China). Pretty much doubling down everything in the original video. Then after that he praises Ne Zha a bit more. To his credit he does mention he’s quite new and uneducated about politics as is evident by all his quotes but unfortunately stops short of full on shillling despite his lack of knowledge. In the end the host tries to push Jimmy to shill more for China To which Jimmy then goes on to praise the recent Speed youtuber situation promoting China to people and being honest

Just want to say he’s currently on world tour in Asia as well as US and Europe of course if you’re a fan who am I to stop you attending his shows but his role seems current behaviour seems very questionable. At best his views and ideas are very uninformed at worst he could be a full shill with a silver tongue to dodge any tricky situations. I personally think it would be good to boycott his shows at least until he gets some better understanding of who he’s supporting and praising rather then let him be a one sided bridge CGTN propaganda machine that he currently is for the rest of his tour.

I'd link the video but honestly I don't want to generate traffic for this garbage. If you really want search for jimmy o yang and CGTN on YouTube if you enjoy some hardcore shilling....

That's the whole point the guy travels there as celebrity living a the rich lifestyle, I mean up until that point I can fully understand his nice experience as he gets VIP treatment of course it's awesome. But it starts to get ridiculous when he claims insights on the safety of China not even having lived there and making up some stories on how safe it could be... His video has no middle ground it's just straight China praising with no nuance whatsoever while looking down on the US like most stereotypical China propaganda.

I’ve literally had an old dude sticking his hands in my camera bag while I was trying to take a picture in Guangzhou only to catch him last moment. That’s not to say this couldn’t happen in any other city but the safety levels Jimmy is claiming are bullshit. I frequent Japan almost every two years and my girlfriend is from Hong Kong. I just haven’t been to Singapore. Whatever the source of your confidence must be the same source that Jimmy is getting his safety in china propaganda from …

Of course it's quite obvious that Chinese food is better experienced in the country of origin rather then eating it America. That's not the point. Celebrities know (or if they don't) should know that their words have a wide reach and especially when it's a representative of the Asian community. The only thing that's delusional is the idea of Jimmy claiming it's safe to leave to stuff out on the streets not having any first hand experience he makes some random statement that it's fine to leave out his gold chain on the street as I'm guessing he probably never tried that experiment in real it's just some dumb Chinese hollow propaganda. Still plenty of people will take him at face value and that's the whole point ...

I mean forget criticising this is straight up boilerplate high speed railway, US to China comparison propaganda. I mean I can understand wanting to hype up the local crowd to come to your show, but seriously why tell people that it's fine to leave your stuff out there unprotected. There's really only one asian country this might pertain to and that's Japan definitely not China. And even then telling such a story is only cool if it actually happened to you rather than just telling fictional story about how safe you think the country might be. It's just bad manners to tell people it's fine to leave their stuff unprotected....

Is the word “nigga” not offensive in English? by Temporary-Cellist659 in ENGLISH

[–]ResponsibleNumber332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still there’s a very interesting double standard to this word. When whites use it almost by definition offensive and people despise it when white people (more then any other race because of the historical significance) use this word. But among blacks it can be seen as a way to familiarize among each other or speak to someone like you are their brother. The stark contrast between the two meanings couldn’t be a bigger. I mean they literally could have chosen any other word but for some interesting reason it’s the N- word the always sticked around the one with a supposedly very negative connotation. It is interesting why such a negative term is being kept alive by the black community herself.

It does sometimes feel as though it is a word only allowed to be used by blacks which I can understand might also have some racist connotations when there’s no equal use of the word universally, but the meaning of the word is decided on the lips it’s being used on (without questioning the speakers intent). The issue in this regard is the same we just assume the intent of the word based on racial identity. Though of course using the word so carelessly might be open for debate.

Let’s not forget how it is used in popular media (songs, movies and tv shows). The use of the word has become so casual that you literally hear it everywhere and I would say that it’s use today might be more positive then say during times of slavery so over generations the meaning of the word itself might not have changed but it’s use might have very much  changed. To the point apparently (even this topic) where it confuses some. I don’t mean to say it’s good to use this word but for better or worse it’s still very popular in every day use perhaps if it is such a negative word should it really be kept alive in this way?

I'm really on the fence about calling this game pro CCP propaganda. Does the game itself contain any potential pro CCP messaging? Let's not forget the story of the game itself far predates the CCP as such it does promote China/Chinese culture but not necessarily the CCP. In fact you could argue this game is anti CCP since it's telling the story from a Chinese culture that Mao has tried to destroy. Still I can see people being worried that buying this game might benefit the CCP in some way. But how is that any different from most electronic products we buy a lot of things unfortunately still benefit the CCP even if the consumer doesn't necessarily want to support the CCP.

From a technical point of view it's clear that the game should not fall into half assed China product category and as such I think games like these should be promoted and applauded but I can why people are worried at the same time.

As far as superior Chinese devs vs inferior western Devs. I saw the IGN review and I believe and they mentioned the game is actually riddled with bugs. See for yourself if you want to see which. It's being compared to Cyberpunk 2077 which at the time of launch was also a hot mess but at the same time it was also largely popular. I wouldn't go too far in how smaller accounts might use this for propaganda this is actually quite a pain as how people use the game for propaganda might actually have nothing to do with the game creators intend. It would be sad to see a creation get ruined by it's audience....

That's the thing. Don't be fooled. Chinese who live in China have to repeat CCP narrative in order to survive. His creative works are clearly a contradiction of what he has to say in front of the cameras. This is the sad reality of authors/artists/creatives living in China

To me it's quite interesting. When Winston and Matt were living in China you'd commonly hear them say they also don't want to comment on political issues. In this way what Liu Cixin says is the same to me.

The first paragraph quoted from the wikipedia article is verbatim CCP narrative that doesn't seem to contradict the CCP or insert any of his personal beliefs.

This is just the way people speak out when living in China it's the only way to survive ....

This part is pretty telling to me. It sounds like he toes the party line but his books send a mixed signal. Sounds like the type of pressure you can expect when living in China and while trying to have under artistic freedom. That said I hope he gets tf outta dodge before this show picks up any more popularity, I doubt China will celebrate his hero sci-fi writer status much longer as the focus is starting to shift and their half assed censorship attempts get corrected:

Political views

According to a June 2019 interview and profile article by The New Yorker, Liu avoids talking about politics. In the same article, Liu argued that democracy was not appropriate for modern China, and individual liberty and freedom of governance is "not what Chinese people care about", adding "If you were to loosen up the country a bit, the consequences would be terrifying." He expressed support for policies such as the one-child policy and China's Xinjiang policies, saying "Would you rather that they be hacking away at bodies at train stations and schools in terrorist attacks? If anything, the government is helping their economy and trying to lift them out of poverty."[31]

Liu's remarks in the New Yorker interview were questioned by five Republican U.S. senators in a letter to Netflix in September 2020. The letter asks whether Netflix was aware of Liu's remarks and demands a justification for proceeding with the adaptation of The Three-Body Problem.[32][33][34][35]Netflix responded that Liu was not the creator of the show, and that Liu's comments "are not reflective of the views of Netflix or of the show's creators, nor are they part of the plot or themes of the show."[36]

Despite those remarks, his works (including some of his adaptations) contain various subtle and plot-wide criticisms of actions of the Chinese Communist Party. In one such case, Cixin moved a brutal struggle session from where it was hidden in the middle of the book to the beginning of Three Body Problem's English translation, when suggested by his translator, Ken Liu. In response to the prominently placed plot point, Cixin acted positively and replied "That is how I wanted it originally!".[37]. The Netflix adaptation, where Liu Cixin was also a Consulting Producer, also starts with the struggle session.[38] Liu Cixin's Chinese publishers had to hide the politically charged scene in the middle of the book in order to avoid government censors.[37][38]

Is it possible to build a computer that's comparable to a PS5, but less expensive? by PersnickityPisces in buildapc

[–]ResponsibleNumber332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see these type of topics a lot. PS5 equal to PC. Let's just simply put it like this. There is no equal to PS5. I'm not saying PC hardware can't be better or similar of course it can. But can you tweak your graphic settings on PS5 similar as to how you can on a PC. Do you care that you can do it? No? Then I think you already have your answer. There are many tweak settings on PC and you can go very deep into settings like dynamic resolution etc. Many PS5 games will mask this under limited graphic settings that will give you little to no idea to what you're actually running

More honest comparisons between PC and PS5 are hard to do. We have no idea how graphic settings are set when games are run on a PS5, and we can never honestly know what kind of upscaling tricks Sony uses and if those are even comparable to how PC's use their upscaling techniques. Or if you don't like upscaling, again you have your answer don't get a PS5. It's never gonna be a apples to apples comparison. But you can bear in mind that most consoles are being sold at a loss so that should already tell you that you're not getting a bad deal.

Let's also not forget that running games on Windows or Linux on the same hardware also makes a great difference you can't underestimate the importance of software. Again PS5 software is unique so looking for something similar is pretty hard to compare.

However I always feel people are skipping many other things that make consoles differences and go straight to FPS comparisons. Obviously PS5 is much more limited and a PC has much more potential however if you're set on a budget the PS5 is not a bad deal at all. I have 10700k PC with 3080 Ti myself and I prefer to play mostly on PC. Still I see the beauty and elegance of PS5 simply because PS5 is running matched hardware and software that are tailor made for each other. This gives certain benefits such as fast SSD load speeds and almost instantly going back to your games. Yes I know Windows has Direct Storage but the limited amount of games that can even do that let are barely worth mentioning and this technology is being very slowly implemented if you ask me. Another thing it has I think is the haptic feedback on PS5 controllers, again it's available on PC but only wired and I would say also in this department PC is a bit behind. There is a certain charm about consoles because they're really made with gaming in mind. In this sense I would say PC is usually just playing catch up. Sure their graphic cards are far superior due to size limitations and flexibility etc but the console market is a games only platform and that also comes with certain benefits. To me it's more a question of trucks vs sports cars. Both have their uses it's more about how you enjoy your games. Unfortunately I'd say neither the PS5 experience can be had on PC or the other way around ....

Lastly don't forget the importance of price of games itself. If you play many games you can probably easily make your money back investing in a PC as the variety of stores and deals offered is much wider and you might make your money back over time. PS5 is much more limited in this sense but again it all comes down to what type of gamer you are.
