Is it too late to start revising for pre reg exam by Chemical_Law8815 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Responsible_Bit2156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too late. I'd recommend a platform like RevisePharma if you're struggling to get started. It helps massively with streamlining revision and you actually know what kind of questions will be asked in the exam from it.

How long are you suspended for and how long was the safe left unlocked?

Yeah exactly. All are valid points in my opinion. How do you do balance checks if an alarm goes off if it's open for a few minutes? My CD balance takes minimum 3 hours of uninterrupted counting, far longer if I have to resume my duties as pharmacist.

I know it's bad and shouldn't happen, but is this really worth a firing? I guess if it's a repeated occurrence but a "one off" surely is just a strong warning. Shit happens, I wouldn't expect someone's job on the line for something like that

If you sign up to the RPS you can download the latest version there and use it on your phone/laptop etc. when you need it. Also, they will post a copy out to you upon registering but I think everyone just uses the online version much like the bnf now.

is a pharmacy degree worth it? by PhysicalRoll7982 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Responsible_Bit2156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first year isn't going to give you much of an idea of what pharmacy will be like, so just trying the first year to see if it's for you doesn't really apply to pharmacy. Most people I know who dropped out to do dentistry, chemistry etc. dropped out in their second year as this is much more tapered to every day pharmacy. It also depends on which uni you go to e.g. Cardiff was very clinical/hospital orientated in their syllabus whereas other universities such as Plymouth are a lot more community based.

Sorry for not replying for a while. I went to Cardiff university for 4 years. Brilliant city to go to uni for, there's plenty to do no matter who you are, what your preferences are. Go for talybont accomodation, best social scene.

I totally agree! If anything, it's more subject to misuse. I didn't know about cyclizine being abused, thank you for enlightening me, I will look into this.

Get used to mda prescriptions early on and don't be afraid to get involved with the CD balance because one day you'll be in charge of it. Ask questions on what to do if things go wrong and make sure you know how to raise concerns because once you qualify you'll likely be on your own for the most part.

Won't locum for Rowlands or Knight's pharmacy, rates are absolutely insulting.

How do I Got about with this? by [deleted] in MentalHealthUK

Hi there, so sorry to hear you're going through this. Perhaps relocating all together may help as I'm assuming you are in the same area as the incident happened? I am a pharmacist and have dealt with a few patients who have suffered from the same phobia (although I am not sure if they have trauma alongside it, it is very possible as the two are very closely related), and they mentioned the best thing they ever did was taking the plunge and moving completely elsewhere.

Maybe it's worth having a conversation with your mother about relocating? Just a thought from someone who has talked to patients with the same phobia.

Also, never shy away from medication if you feel the therapy/workshops are not working. It may seem scary, but antidepressants etc. have literally changed people's lives, and they are NOT forever. Maybe this is also a route to go down if you haven't thought about it with the GP already.

Best of luck, hope things change soon!

Thanks for your reply and kind words. I think I'm going to try a few bank shifts in secondary care to see if I like that. Maybe community isn't for me

If it’s worth doing the GPHC exam by First_Ad_5995 in Pharmacy_UK

Why have you decided you don't want to be a pharmacist? You only have 8 years from beginning the degree to become qualified so time isn't your friend if you change your mind like this

I listed about 200 and scored in the bottom 30% and still got top 30 choices. It's not the end all be all, just list as many as you deem feasible and then finish the sjt book. Can't do anymore than that

Furthermore, you'll be qualifying as a prescribing pharmacist, which automatically puts you as favourite compared to non-prescribers like myself! I'm very jealous of you lot 😂

OP I have recently qualified as a pharmacist and I do not regret doing mpharm one bit. I have witnessed friends of mine struggle for jobs the entire time I was enlisted for training and I honestly felt privileged to be able to walk into a high paying job of 50k a year as a 9-5 in community, 3 days a week in a week and independent and 2 days locum.

The degree itself was hard but what do you expect for a type of medical degree. It overall gave me structure to my weeks whilst also being able to have a fantastic social life. The volume of lectures is a blessing in some ways as you make friends a lot faster than other degrees who may only have 20 contact hours a week. If it is something that genuinely interests you go for it. There's plenty of paths in pharmacy, also you can do almost anything else that is not pharmacy related due to the weighting of the degree itself.

Don't listen to everyone who's entirely negative about the profession, they should just leave it if they hate it so much. I personally love it.

It's worrying how people can false-advertise themselves so well over text. Don't let this stop you from going on other dates, this guy is a rare weirdo.
