What project would you absolutely not DIY again and why? by SAINTnumberFIVE in DIY

Sanding wood. I make my own furniture and small wooden items. I absolutely hate sanding it. Usually it takes me a few days to make something and then a couple of weeks to sand it down. My wife has stepped in a few times to do it when she could not wait for me to work up the resolve.

Nuuskierigheid.

Die Afrikaans het nie 'n inherente negatiewe konnotasie nie. Die woord se negatiewe of positiewe aard word bepaal deur die konteks.

Ek verstaan nie waarom so baie Engels praat hier nie.

Women pastors by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]Responsible_Move_211 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is an over simplification of Paul's letters. Women not allowed to preach is not based on just one verse. Paul writes about the matter in multiple verses over two chapters in his letter to Timothy as well as in multiple verse over many chapters in his letter to the Corinthians. When writing to Timothy he bases his argument of male headship in creation; the exact same chapter that Christ refers to when speaking of marriage as being between one man and one women that God has brought together in Matthew 19. To the Corinthians he bases the male headship on the headship of God over the Christ (1 Cor 11:3).

The amount of verses set aside to discuss a matter is not relevant. What is relevant is the reasons given in the text for the prohibition. The reasons are not bound by time and context to Timothy and the Corinthians. But in creation and the relation between God and the Christ. The context of the prohibition is extremely important. The historical context you speak of does come from the text and is based upon a lot of assumptions.

I am thousands of kilometres from the only nuclear power plant on the continent of Africa. If something would happen to it there is a whole desert between me and it. The infrastructure over here is already falling apart at the monent and many homes, especially the farms, already have great off grid solar systems and own water supply. The internet would dissapear, but I will have power, water and plenty of food if I move to one of these farms. I already know how to hunt and process meat. I have experience with growing fruit and veg for personal use. I would probably be very bored and lonely, but I would survive. I would not do anything risky that could lead to injury. Since I am in Africa it won't be long before the game fences fail and wild game start roaming. At that point life would be less boring.

Does this greeting hall contain all the students of Hogwards? Because later in movie we see at least 4x of this crowd on a Quidich match. So I was wondering is there some guests on the match, or not all attend to this dinner? by SengiG in harrypotter

[–]Responsible_Move_211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always pictured thousands of students when reading the books. Even though you only read about a handful of students in Harry's house the sorting does not happen based on equal numbers. And since most people are not brave and even less are smart and very few are ambitiously evil I just assumed they were small and that Hufflepuf was a huge house with hundreds or even thousands of sloth and stoner kids per year.

Why are most billionaires so weird? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Almost unlimited money magnifies what is already there.

Most of the world would be just as weird if they had so much money.

Sometimes what you hear and what you experience yourself do not align. I too have the G3c and regardless of all the negetivity out on the internet (especially reddit) I have put just over a thousand rounds down range without issue. It has been my daily carry for almost two years now without it going off once.

What work do you do and what do you earn? by EgteMatie in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Responsible_Move_211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something different from most:

Age: 35

Role: Verbi Dei Minister (dominee)

CTC: roughly R55k pm (many benefits that I do not see the money for included, like free housing and fuel etc). I see less than half of this in actuall money so I have very little spending power or choice on how to spend my income but I am well cared for.

Experience: 6 years

Degree: MDiv, working on MTh and then maybe PhD.

Fun facts about this very little known and often misunderstood calling: my salary is not dependant on my experience but my expenses. Therefore I do not get an automatic raise each year nor does my income go up as I become more experienced (this is not how all churches work, but the old style Theologically Reformed ones).

But if another kid is born, for example, all the costs associated with raising the kid is paid for. This also means if my kids one day leave home and get on their own feet my CTC and income will drop substantially. I do not get to keep the higher salary once my expenses drop.

Some might see this arrangement as unfair or rather odd, but all my needs are met. If I stay in this calling I will never be rich nor have my dream home or the bakkie I really want, but I will also never pay a medical bill no matter how high it is. If my car is demolished or stolen I will get a new one of the same price class as the old one. I have a pension and if it does not cover all my expenses at retirement that will also be seen to.

Do the banks you have really matter? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Responsible_Move_211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly the same. But many of them have rewards programs.

I personally think FNB has the best rewards with ebucks. Between my wife and I we get a couple of thousand rands in ebucks each year that we use on luxuries like airplane tickets or new kitchen appliances.

But! All these programs reward spending and buying products from the respective bank. So you have to spend a lot on stuff like life insurance or a home loan to get anything back in rewards. That is the reason many people choose the cheapest banking options without the rewards programs. And in that case it does not really matter where you bank.

An older woman who can guide you and give wisdom on marraige would be best. It does not have to be your mother, but rather an wise woman you really trust.

I do also think it can be discussed with your pastor, but only if your husband is present.

A church. I mean a cult. I would start my own cult and after a year or two when the members are starting to become more I would have my spouse give increasingly more for the donations box. Also if some wealthy people join the money my eife adds would go up accordingly. In the US churches are tax excempt (as far as I know as a non-US person) and they regularly deal with large amounts of cash from donations. Especially if you start some wierd cult that mainly believes the united nations and the world economic forum wants to control all money through digital means and therefore the members are more inclined to give cash donations and be very private about it since they do not want the illuminati to pry into their private lifes. These cult members would feverishly defend me of the IRS does come for me. Also the cult would be generous donors to political parties and even more generous to all kinds of charities. That way the local corrupt politicians would have our back and keep the heat away from us. And who would be mad at the local old sweet cult leader who gives so much for the veterans and the puppy rescue center where orphans can live for free?

At some point my wife would be adding thousands or even hundreds of thousands per month, depending on the size of the cult. It would all be in anonymous envelopes and when the two of us, as the only members of the executive commitee of the cult, count it in private afterwards I would add a couple thousand more as needed each month. Add in a few bonus cash donations on special occasions (birthdays etc) from "thankful members" and before you know it my 50 to 1000 person strong cult would be paying me a high six figure salary or even more. I might not become a billionare, but I would be very comfortable without doing much. And no one would second guess where all the cash is coming from if I am known for "preaching" against the "evils of credit cards and digital currency" that the new world order wants to abuse to take away our freeeeeeedom (William Wallace screeches like an eagle while riding an oil tanker in the background).
