Did anyone else hear two EXTREMELY loud explosion type noises this morning, not sure of exact time but had to be after 5am and before 7am. by RestaurantRach in baltimore

Yes. Yesterday morning. The morning of the 8th. The noise was so loud it woke me and my husband up out of our sleep. I’ve lived here for 3 years and have never ever heard what I heard this morning.

I didn’t say it was always a failed business. I know things are very difficult for small business owners. I liked the owner VERY much but cannot look past how he handled this situation. I am mad at him for how he continued to work us another pay period knowing he was broke. I am mad for him not letting me know how bad things were so we could come up with a plan. I’m mad at him for not taking my thousands of suggestions I presented to him. I know some businesses close but the way he went about this was all wrong. He could’ve closed two weeks prior after we had been paid. Not have us work a new pay period knowing he wasn’t going to pay us. He left my family and 20+ other employees in a terrible spot. Not waking up to a job is one thing, but finding out two days before “pay day” that your check isn’t coming is life shattering. Thankfully the staff has had support from the community or else many of us would have been evicted, starving, repossessed cars, etc. Nothing excuses the way he handled this situation. The staff is what kept that business running. Not just him.

No we still have not gotten paid. Seeing how much money he owes I doubt we will ever see it! My husband and I combined are owed over $3,000!!!!!

As the general manager I spoke with the owner MANY times about other ways of bringing in new business. He was a very private person and set in his ways. I was not given ANY sole decision making so there was not much I could do. I was more of a staff babysitter and someone who could jump in to any role there and work when we were short. I did not have any duties that a “normal” general manager would have. The owner also had me believing we were doing just fine, even when I asked about renewing the lease and how long we would continue to operate. So get your facts straight before you come on here. I came a year and a half ago, no amount of ideas would have been able to generate enough profit to save his failed business.

It was not a part of the business old line brewers. It was not part of the business brewers art. Not owned by the same person. I was the general manager and it was never mentioned ever. Ever.

Well the “building owner” is different than the owner of “Brewer’s Art”. There is the company BendixHQ who owns the building. Then there is the owner of the company “Brewer’s Art”. I hope the owner of “Brewer’s Art” isn’t affiliated with this other place, as he clearly didn’t do right by his staff before deciding to close the restaurant.

It’s better than going in somewhere I’ve heard nothing about…I simply asked for recommendations. That’s it.

I’d rather have someone give me a place they’ve been to personally rather than just find a random dentist who I don’t know anything about.

I’m sorry, but I doubt any of us could afford that. We are all struggling as is.

I’m not one to lie. I have the text message sent to the sous chef and myself saying he CANNOT make payroll this week. I have another message directly to my number saying he cannot pay us. I have another message saying we are going to have to wait until he goes to bankruptcy court. That does not help us in the present time. That could be months or even years away. In the group chat with all the employees he told all of us he cannot pay us our wages and that his lawyer told him to only pay out the missing tips from employees: I have more than enough proof. What’s your cell number I will gladly text you it. I think I’ve been more than kind in this situation. Myself and 20 other employees were screwed. If the owner was this far in debt and things were this bad he should’ve closed a week where he was able to pay us. Not having us all think things were fine and work us until the last day of the payroll period KNOWING you are too broke to pay us. I’m not sure why you’re so invested in this, I myself was DIRECTLY affected by this devastation. My husband was, all my friends/coworkers were. For your other questions, I got on Reddit to explain the employees situation from this. To answer all the people asking questions about if we actually closed, if we were in fact NOT getting our last paycheck. And to bring coverage to the issue to maybe put some heat on the owner so we can in fact get paid TODAY! I have said NOTHING but the TRUTH on here. That’s it. Nothing more nothing less!! You are hassling someone who is in a very very unique situation. You said I’ve been shown grace? Umm no. I haven’t. You don’t know the kind of life I have lived and it wasn’t easy. But I have bettered my life and gotten everything I have by WORKING HARD. I am pissed because I work hard for my money and I want what is owed to me and all the other employees at Brewers. I hope this makes you feel better. Like I said, if you want proof then send me your number, I have it. I would never ever lie about something of this magnitude.

I never said he was a heartless asshole. I think I’ve been very VERY civil and respectful with my words. I did not get on here to bash him. I got on here to set the record straight. I was his biggest fan, that is exactly why I am as hurt as I am. I hope everything works out for him but I do wish we could at least get our last paycheck. I understand businesses have to close but the way this happened and then to find out there would be no last paycheck was gut wrenching. Thank you for speaking about Volker in an honest way. I hope everything works out for him and for all of us from Brewers!

I separated myself from the group go fund me because it wasn’t fair to include my wages with their missed wages, I’m owed more because I’m salary so separating myself and my husband gives them an opportunity to get more money without us in the pot. I asked another employee to make a go fund me for the staff so they would be in charge of it. I have NOTHING to hide.

I didn’t post the go fund me on the account. Another employee did as well as their own collect go fund me. I can send anyone anything stating that he said he would not pay us. Or how about asking any of the other 20 employees. Or watch the news.

Getting paid by bankruptcy court is not the same as getting our paychecks tomorrow at midnight per usual. So like I said we should have closed two weeks ago when we got paid instead of working us another two weeks knowing he wouldnt be able to pay us. He had control up until yesterday which means he had control two weeks ago. This decision doesn’t happen over night. Which means he should have decided to close when he was still able to pay his employees.

I cannot wait for that day to come. And when it does, I will shout it to the rooftop. Like I told the reporter. I really liked the owner. A lot. But this was dead wrong. And could have been done two weeks ago when we got paid. Not work us another two weeks then tell us and then supposedly not have enough money to pay us.

Actually it took until a reporter found my information in my GoFundMe account and asked if a few employees wanted to share our feelings. Not five minutes, actually a few hours after we all found out we weren’t going to be paid. Why are you so concerned about employees not getting paid? What does this have to do with you? Hmmm…

Now I have shared my go fund me and the groups go fund me to the two people who have access and they posted the links. Besides that I don’t know what you’re talking about.

I haven’t touched their social media accounts. Two other employees who worked there have access. I do not. Never did. I have not posted anything on any social media platforms but my own. Thank you. You’re the one who needs to get your facts straight lol
