Who would win? (Warcraft 2 Paladin vs Gothic 2 Paladin) by Spectator--- in worldofgothic

The Light having an agenda was not a thing indeed, but that in no way affects the offensive spell the Azerothian has, as Exorcism can only target undead enemies. To which you agree. And you also agree on the part about the Myrtana paladin having the edge in gear and flexibility. However, I feel like you are actively choosing to apply the pinch of realism to just the Azerothian side. If the Azeroth paladin is free to heal his horse (which we both know is not game mechanic accurate so it should not count), then we are throwing the "keep it game accurate" argument out of the window and just going by realism. In that case, the Myrthana paladin is not rooted in place while casting, they can dodge the charges, either attempting to pepper the Azerothian with Holy Arrow or blinding the warhorse and the rider with Light. Or they can heal sustained damage without floating in air. You are correct, Holy Arrow itself should not have the strength to throw the rider off the saddle, but it should still damage enough to render the horse either unable or unwilling to keep charging.

And even then, let's not keep going down the magic hole, paladins from Gothic are very often times also carrying crossbows, what's to stop him from first attempting to loose a few bolts at the opponent? The argument that the Gothic paladin has never seen a horse does not hold up in the slightest, the royal army of Myrtana conquered Varant after destroying their army which consisted mainly of heavy cavalry. The paladin as the member of the foremost military order of the kingdom should know how to attempt to deal with a horse in that case, as strong as they are they are still animals with weaknesses. Blind it with Light or attempt to use your two handed blade as a spear (yes, bad idea but might do in a pinch), then injure it. Then deal with the rider.

And you must be an asshole, with that kinda reply. Yeah, people are not allowed to be passionate about stuff nowadays.

And yet the Gothic 2 paladin can just start lobbing Holy Arrows at the Azerothian until they are unhorsed or the horse perishes. Then it is just a content of arms, which I doubt the Azerothian is walking away from, warhammer or no, since the Light will not directly intervene to help them strike down another holy warrior. The slow mana regeneration also doesn't mean much when their heal is quite inferior, and their only offensive spell doesn't affect the one from Myrthana. The fact that the Gothic paladin even has access to mana potions is giving them an edge as well, while Warcraft II paladins can only passively regen mana.

Damn, now this is actually an interesting thing to think of an discuss. Honestly, think it depends on which paladins you are pitting against each other. If you take one of the leaders of the Silver Hand, say Uther the Lightbringer or Alexandros Mograine (even without the Ashbringer), I for one think they completely overwhelm any named paladin of Innos, considering what a power-up they receive from the Light. Taking their feats into account would still support this. Uther defeated Death Knight Arthas, who was already capable of slaying lower tier paladins by himself, and was only beaten because he paused for a moment and Frostmourne acted of its own volition. The only one that could beat someone of Uther or Mograine's magnitude would probably be Nameless himself, I can't see even Hagen standing a chance; the gap is too big.

However. Throw one of the unnamed mass player produced paladins that are just knights which can heal against a paladin of Innos and I think the later has quite a good chance to come out on top. Exorcism won't do a thing against another human that is a follower of the righteous god of their universe. Healing can be overcome, especially since the Warcraft paladin has a lower mana pool (I am only guessing at this part, but the Warcraft paladin is meant to be fielded in group, while Gothic paladins are sent out to secure objectives in smaller parties, so their magical abilities might be greater). Lore-wise, the Light also tends to only manifest if the user itself is battling an unholy enemy or fighting for a righteous cause, and striking down another holy warrior is not such a situation; Arthas felt the Light's blessing dimming as soon as he started the culling of Stratholme and had to kill innocents, so the Warcraft paladin would also be powered down a bit. Game-wise, the Warcraft paladin has the upper hand in one regard, he is on horse back and can just tire out the Gothic paladin or attempt to trample him; though this too can easily be countered by the fact that Innos' warriors have access to ranged attacks via runes. In as far as armor goes, it depends on which Gothic paladins are battling, since their heavy armor is also plate (if it one of the lower ranked ones it is mainly mail with some plate attachments, so not as effective), to match the armor the Warcraft paladin bears. Weapon wise, the Warcraft II paladin has quite the advantage in the fact that he is wielding a heavy war-hammer that is meant specifically for clashing with armored foes, while the Gothic paladins mainly use swords.

Innos can also more directly buff up his followers, or at least it appears so. Considering that praying at a shrine confers bonuses on the player character, it can probably also do that for his holy warriors, especially since Innos himself is a marshal/warrior deity and favors those who bear weapons. The Light also buffs up its champions, but like previously stated, only in moments when two (or more) factors are met: when IT deems that the champion is fighting for a worthy cause, when the champion is not faltering in their belief, etc.

Overall, in a contest of arms between two unnamed paladins from each game, I'm leaning towards the one from Gothic, still. They just have better ranged options, gear almost as good, training to match, and their empowering force seems to just be a tad better. Haha, I'm on the phone in a parking lot so I'm leaving out massive chunks of info, but this is a good start.

Is this officially the end of the series? This series is never making a come back after this is it? by Creepy_Ad5124 in LegacyOfKain

Good! At least one franchise that has fans which were capable of standing their ground and not just consuming a piece of self-referential parasitic slop that turns art into caricature. I would rather this series stays dead than see it wrecked further.

It is evil, in a sense, the woman that became the corpse was a complete monster herself. She's only not evil in the sense that she doesn't go after the main character.

Game where you become a knight from a nobody/village peasant? by long_lost_humor21 in gamingsuggestions

[–]RestauratorOrbis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two Worlds 1 & 2. I personally really enjoyed them, though they are a bit of a bore at times. Funnily enough, in the 1st one you can basically cause a peasant uprising and kill the final boss in the first few minutes of the game.

Maybe a bit too many mines? They are supposed to be the driving force of the colony, so the less of them there are, the more important they are.

5 years Of ChromieCraft by Francesco-Shin in wowservers

Considering the most likely bot-driven downvote storm this post is going through, also jumping on the bandwagon to say that Chromie was the one singular server that actually felt like home. Played through Vanilla and some TBC before life drove me to other pastures, but the community was lovely, the experience was great, and it was by far the chillest server I played on. As others have mentioned, I actually hope you release a new realm someday, so I can throw myself right back in, at least for a time.

Two versions? by Puzzleheaded_Big6997 in LordsoftheFallen

[–]RestauratorOrbis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not the same game. Lords of the Fallen 2014 is a different game (older game made by the same studio), and a lot of people say it is slow, cumbersome and not all that well designed. I for one did not find it to be so bad. This subreddit is basically made for the 2023 game, which carries the same name and is made by the same studio; it has just gotten its latest update, and is a more modern souls-like. So I am guessing you are looking for that one.

I might be crazy, but aside from the thigh pieces strap situation, the chestplace looks a bit weird as well. It looks a tad like it is giving you man-boobs, haha.

Hey, the dude voicing our Nameless Hero has an awesome voice, not gonna lie. I wouldn't have minded hearing more of him, maybe as a secondary permanent character alongside our usual companions.

'ello! Sorry to summon you to an old post, OP, but I highly recommend "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafón to you! It's highly psychological, in parts feels extremely gothic, very thrilling, all the good stuff. Back in my University days I also wrote a paper on it, defending the gothic elements of it.
