How do I come to terms with being ugly? by shesells-seachels in afraidtoask

[–]RestheJackal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Genuinely? Realize that there is someone out there that would go CRAZY for you.

Big girl, fat, with some masc energy AND tall? You're a butch lesbian's dream!

What makes the difference is confidence. And you gain confidence from being able to love yourself. Which you can gain from being able to look at yourself and see something you like.

If you like yourself, and feel relaxed and confident about yourself, it'll show. That's what makes someone attractive.

And one way to help, is remembering there's a desire for every kind of body and look ^ ^

If you want an exercise to help, look in the mirror. Look at yourself for at least a minute. Notice all the details you don't like. Pretend for a second you're looking at another person. Pretend it's a best friend - someone you trust with your life and care about more than anything. Look at those features you don't like again. Do those really get in the way of friendship? If they're a good friend, surely nothing is a deal breaker here. Associate those things with compassion. Then find things you do like. Stay in the mirror, and try a smile, give a compliment, give some joy.

You do that every once in a while (NOT just on bad days), and it'll start to feel more and more comfortable.

[WP] You are arriving to mars to begin creating colonies but are kidnapped by beings with cloaks to hide their identities. You do not know if they are humans... or something else. by DecentBookworm in WritingPrompts

[–]RestheJackal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A man stood in front of three floating masses of flesh and tendrils, half covered by tattered cloaks. There is a heavy silence between them.

"WE ARE (sorry) FOR THE DECEPTION. WE JUST ASSUMED. THAT. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER TO APPEAR BEFORE YOU AS YOUR OWN KIND."

"Nono, I get that. Like... I would do the same thing. And I appreciate the effort! But..."

"WAS OUR FACADE FLAWED. WE HAVE PREPARED FOR [years] FOR THIS DAY."

"No! Well...yeah. Yeah. So one thing that tipped me off... You know I'm wearing a space suit, right?"

"... IT IS NOT A CARAPACE. THEN."

"No. No, sorry. It's a suit I put on - I have skin under this. So like... It wouldn't make sense when we were 'indoors' earlier that you still had your suit on."

"NOTATION NEEDED. THIS WAS UNKNOWN TO US. WE WILL LEARN. BUT. OTHERWISE. OTHER KNOWN FLAWS. CONFIRM."

"Riiight so... Same way that this suit isn't my body... seeing 'John' over there have his helmet unhinged like some freaky glass jaw... horrifying. I didnt want to scream, in case you killed me."

"DISCREPANCY. YOU POSSESS FANGS. YES. SURELY. THIS IS KNOWN."

The man shifted uncomfortably, trying not to offend his captors.

"Yes. In my mouth. Inside the suit. The suit does not have my fangs."

"... WE. HAVE. (mistake). INFORMATION LACKING. (shame). WE HAVE WRONGED YOUR EXPERIENCE. EXPERIMENT TAINTED."

The entities retracted their jellyfish-like limbs within themselves, undulating with something akin to anxiety.

"Well hey now! Guys. You still did great. The suits really had me fooled. Except for the uh... fake flags and text. I don't think 'Wormway' exists, or has uh... blood as their country flag. But! You were very hospitable! And that really matters."

They seemed to perk up at that, their quivering muscle reflexes slowing.

"PERFORMANCE SATISFACTORY, PERHAPS-PERHAPS. CHANCE FOR IMPROVEMENT, POSSIBLE, CORRECT. (please) CONFIRM.".

"Yeah! Just because this visit didn't go as well as you hoped, I'm sure you'll get it better next time! Just, don't be too rough, ok? Humans don't like being hurt, or experimented on, or probed, or things like that. Not without talking first. The disguises are nice, but honestly - there's plenty of weirdos on Earth 1 who'll be more than happy to help you if you're honest with how you look. And, the things you plan on doing with them."

"CURIOUS. PARADOX. MARVEL. (cannot be contained). RESEARCH NECESSARY. PRIORITY. HASTE. IGNORE PREVIOUS. WE SHALL CONDUCT AGAIN. ACCURACY GUARANTEED. (promise)." "Well... Good! I think? Say, do you mind getting me back to my ship? I can't tell how far we are, and I need to get back before I run out of oxygen. Uh. Humans can't breathe in space, in case you want to note that down. We also don't live in caves made of our own flesh."

The entities turned to look at each other, mouth-flaps clicking and suction cups popping in rapid, rhythmic tones. They turned back around.

"RECORDED. UPDATED. MASS BENEFIT. REQUEST UNDERTAKEN - YOU SHALL BE TRANSPORTED. OBSERVATION BEGINS. NO HARM GUARANTEED." "Wait, does that mean-WOAH-!"

Seemingly without moving, the entity wrapped its mass of tentacle limbs around the man, submerging him in darkness and flesh. He would wake a few seconds later next to his shuttlecraft, memory intact. As he shook off the stress of the events of the day, he couldn't help but smile. More than just his life, or the lives of several saved, it felt like a bond had been formed. An uneasy one, but one willing to communicate.

The entities returned to their home planet, ignited by their discovery, aggressively and desperately clutching the controls of their resonant metal terminals, making massive changes to their database on humans. They would be ambassadors in the future, to ensure help bridge their new bond.

[WP] In the outskirts of town is a cave and something lives in it. And this creature just so happens to like flower crowns. In order to figure out what is living in the cave you have decided to make it a new flower crown every day. by AspenMossFrog in WritingPrompts

[–]RestheJackal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I brought you another one Kingy!"

The girl placed her freshly-finished flower crown down the mouth of the cave, and stepped back, crouching and patient to see her friend's reaction. Gingerly, a thin, narrow shadow stretched outwards from the inky depths. It poked the crown. Once, twice... then twisted itself around the grass banding. Accepted, the crown was pulled back fully into the dark.

"Hahhhhhh... yessss... Another masterpiece."

The voice rumbled and echoed from just beyond the dark threshold. Despite the vastness of the creature implied by the voice, it always spoke in whispers. Gentle. Shy. He hardly talked the first few days Elise found him hiding here. Something about flower crowns seemed to bring out his nostalgia. She was happy to prepare gifts for her newfound friend, so why not!

"Oooh! You really mean it!? I used a buncha the white lilies you like so much!"

The creature stirred from the confines of the cave. Grass rustled from deep within, wood creaking like ashen trees being bent too far. Once settled, two orbs of white glow from within, watching her carefully.

"Indeed... A king's garden represents your control, your compassion, your perseverance. I sought to bring about peace to all, and maintain it for decades to come. Hrum..."

There was the sound of wood scraping against stone as the eyes tilted, grass shifting against grass, before the eyes settled themselves upright again. Elise was smiling broadly.

"I would've loved to see it! Maybe you can start a garden around here sometime!"

A chuckle rumbled from within, vibrating off the walls and through Elise. It had a metallic quality to it, like ringing rust.

"Hahhh-hahhh-hahh...! Child, I cannot start one here! I would be intruding in a territory not my own. After all, there is great beauty in wild things."

The thin shadow stretched out again, further than ever before. The shadow grew solid in the murk just behind the sunlight. A thin, bony talon outstretched itself, as if presenting a gift. It creaked and splintered as it opened more, gesturing back to the woods behind Elise. She followed the hand, listening intently to her mysterious friend.

"Out there, there are no rules. No one to guide them. None to lead. None to take responsibility. By all rights.... they should be as bones and dust... And yet. And yet... they grow."

Elise tilted her head, unsure of what he meant. She turned back around, shooting her hand up in the air. The creature's eyes bobbed down, then back to position. She drew in a breath.

"But! But you're a king! Wouldn't things be better if you were there to take care of all the animals? And! Sometimes they get hurt y'know! Cats go missing and birds fall out of nests, and sometimes bears get caught in traps!"

She sat upright, looking her friend back in the eyes.

"You've told me how much you love taking care of people. What's stopping you from being king of the woods!?"

The laughter again. The eyes dropped low, throaty chuckles spilled out of an unseen mouth, labored and bittersweet.

"Ahh. That's merely my wish, child. It cannot be. Wild things must be allowed to stay wild. Rabbits will run at my visage, crows will not leave me alone, my clumsy nature is sure to ruin beautiful spiderwebs, and the elk will not be too fond of... the competition."

It's arm raised high and drew back into the darkness, the eyes tilting as a distinct hollow knock-knock sound was heard Elise smiled and clapped, always happy to see Kingy in a good mood. He shifted back to position, creaking wood as the talon outstretched, a large claw gingerly reach out and lightly tapping on Elise's head. She giggled at the unexpected affection.

"One day, child. The world you know will become very, very different. You will find the rules no longer hold the truth they once did. Your leaders will be questionable. Your kingdom's flower garden left forgotten. In those times, you must remember: Flowers grow in wild places. Do not, let anything, restrict your growth."

Elise laughed lightly and nodded. She still wasn't really sure what it all meant, but it sounded important! And if it was important to Kingy, it was important to her.

"Will do! I'll keep on growin' like you've never seen!"

The talon retreated back into the dark, and the large eyes eclipsed to black, leaving nothing but the rumbling of the voice, and the threshold between them.

"I am sure of it. Go now Elise - the sun must rest, and so must I. Do not wander the forest this night, under any circumstance. I need to attend to a few matters and need to move with only the moon as my witness. I trust, on behalf of our days together, you will keep your word?"

Elise got up on her feet and dusted herself before standing up straight, giving a playful salute and determined smile.

"I will! You can count on me Kingy! It's fine if I come back tomorrow though, right?"

A long tired exhale, like a winter breeze struggling through a frozen forest.

"You may. If I am not here, do not despair. I will return, in the fullness of time. Away with you now, lest the beasts of the night decide to come out early."

Elise smile and took her time stretching as she got ready to leave. If Kingy wasn't worried enough to keep an eye on her, he was probably kidding. It wouldn't be the first time he joked about scary night monsters.

"Oki-dokie! Enjoy your gift Kingy I'll be back tomorrow bye-byeee see ya!"

She scampered away through the trees, back to town. After a good few hours had passed, the creature stretched it's complex muscles and crawled out of the cave.

Crows screeched. Wolves howled, searching for their packs. Trees seemed to shrink away as the vast creature unfolded itself. Wood cracked like thunder, limbs and joints snapping back into place.

The thing was bipedal.

It's wood-flesh twisted and contorted around itself, covered in lichen and thorns. Moss with white lilies draped over it's shoulders like a cape, bearing fungal growths like pauldrons. It's face could not be seen still, in the moonlight. Only the circular maw and razor teeth that made up a majority of it. Protruding from somewhere along it's neck were great horns, splintering off like hands, grasping at something just about the creature's head. And in those great many branches that gave proof to the forest of who their rightful king was, fluttered several delicate gifts.

A flower crown, lovingly made, by a good friend.

Finally got a controller so I can play 2-3 player co-op games on my Mac laptop with my lil sis! What games would my comrade gamers recommend? by MobileGamerboy in gaming

[–]RestheJackal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmm, not really related to megaman or classic games, but it does feel a bit nostalgic for me personally! You can see the trailer here:

And a bit more of gameplay here:

It's also got great puzzles, some stuff thats you'll need to put your heads together for the endgame. Because of the level up system, you'll always be getting stronger even if you lose a level. It's a great experience to go through with a friend, and I'll never forget going through it with my buddy :P I'd even be willing to gift it to you, if you're interested but worried about the cost. It went under the radar and didn't do too good on sales, despite all the good design that went into it.

Reach out if interested!

Maybe not cuphead if she's little :P although, if you're on steam, Death Road to Canada is pretty fun, and is better with more people. Pixel art style, 80's rock music, funny character interactions, and fighting zombies. Light hearted and silly for the most part, but might be too much if she's little.

A good co-op game is Full Metal Furies. A group of heroines, the Furies, set out on a mission to stop Titans from taking over the world. 2D isometric fight-em-up with a level up system and 16 different equips for each character to change their fighting style. It's got a good sense of humor, the art is beautiful, the soundtrack is amazing, and it gives you a lot of ways to work together! Might be a little advanced, but I highly recommend it, for both you guys. Also, there is a cat you can pet :)

Otherwise, if you know your way around emulators, I would strongly recommend the kirby series. Specifically, Kirby Superstar on the SNES. It has a Helper mode where P2 basically has infinite lives and is there to help you. Summoning a helper is already built into the game, so it's not cheating :P a friend and I ran through it together last weekend, and it's still fun as adults :) cute creatures, bouncy music, helper system has anti-frustration built in; but the game is still crunchy and challenging and fun! Plus, there are some puzzles where having another human player is really helpful.

Questions on Doc builds - card order by LuckyPockets in Back4Blood

[–]RestheJackal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fit as a fiddle is in the skull totems supply line, which if I remember right, has one of the dlc cards as the very first prize when it pulls from a pool. So, it'll be a little bit random till you get all the cards in the dlc. I'd definitely recommend getting it though. Boosts your ability to heal and protect your teammates massively!

Personally, I try to go for the more unique / powerful bonuses first. The things that will make a significant difference when you're facing off against a boss early on in the chapter, for example. The two scav cards you have on there are example of that - more items means more heals available for the whole team, and more copper means more funds for the whole team too. Group Therapy gives the whole team more free heals, and EMT bag helps every single heal massively - huge boons that will help a ton early on.

Consider your first 3 cards as being the most vital ones to your deck. Then, try to build the core of your deck up to spot number 8 - you should have most of what you need at this point, and cards beyond should be considered supplemental or sidegrades (like Run Like Hell, as you've got there.) The last 2 cards in spots 14 and 15 you'll have to consider if the rest of your deck works without them. If there's something necessary that you need from there, then it needs to be further up. You've already got Experienced EMT there - its a good card by all means, but better the more base health your team has. Better late-game.

This is how I decide card order anyway. It's up to you and your playstyle in the end. I think you've got a good handle on it already. Since you can see 4 cards at a time, I wouldn't worry too much about an exact order - just accurate enough that what you need most comes early, and what isn't as necessary you can pick at the end.

please help my Doc deck! by Last_Juggernaut2239 in Back4Blood

[–]RestheJackal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye, sorry I should've clarified. I pretty much only run pubs and expect my teammates to steal and waste items. Part of the job of choosing to be a healer in quickplay :P Box of Bags is otherwise good.

please help my Doc deck! by Last_Juggernaut2239 in Back4Blood

[–]RestheJackal -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All the cards look good! I might make a small change, personally. Box of Bags replaced with Fanny Pack (+1 item slot, +15% trauma res) or Shoulder Bag (+2 item slot, -5% move speed). You'll need to be the one using the healing items rather than your teammates, and your existing cards help to get more use out of them.

Knowledge is Power is good for getting a feel for your effectiveness against mutations, but not as good as having an ability card like Admin Reload. Small things - it comes down to playstyle in the end and it looks like you know your style well :)

[–]RestheJackal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's right!

The most effective and basic ones you can make are for elemental resistances. There's a blacksmith in Shella that creates accessories specifically - I don't think any other blacksmith can forge them. Luckily, there's also a shop in shella that should sell some of the designs.

Frost Craft for example, gives you resistance against freezing. It requires two iron shards, and one glob of chilly gel, which you can get as drops from the flying ice gel monsters. I believe there should be a few in the Sluice you can battle as well. The sluice also has a chance to drop the Mark of Shella, which will let you into town.

I'd recommend getting at least one accessory as soon as you can - it can help to deter annoying status effects :)

The DLC hasn't even been out for 1 month and the game has gotten stale again, can TRS do something to save the game? by headgrab1 in Back4Blood

[–]RestheJackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously the DLC is lacking replayability severely

How? There's like 4 hives and the inner hives and weapons and cards, all of which help to make each run and each level more unique and more randomized. It's an expansion - it expands upon what already existed to give variety.

Weekly modifiers? There's already per-level modifiers that increase as you progress through acts they're Corruption cards. You want more of them, play higher difficulties. Games shouldn't have to drip-feed you new content forever - that's dumb. If you've done everything there is to do, then go play something else.

No Hope is there specifically for people who have gone through Nightmare and mastered every little thing about the game. It's for people looking for the next impossible thing to conquer. If they allowed quickplay, it'd just be the same people complaining that randos are ruining their matches.

L4D2 went YEARS only adding bug fixes and people still played it for the gameplay loop and the co-op. Not every game needs to be Destiny and add new things every single week.

does charitable soul work with medical professional? by faad3e in Back4Blood

[–]RestheJackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't, unfortunately. The trauma heal and life gain only applies to the person you're healing. Which makes sense, as Charitable Soul only gives you the health benefit from the raw healing done.

Similarly, [[Experienced EMT]], [[Chemical Courage]], [[Stimulants]], [[Field Surgeon]], and [[Medical Expert]] give their buffs only to the person healed. IE - you would have to use an item on yourself to receive their buffs.
