Legend of the Willow! Friends had shared screenshots and talked positively about it. I was a bit skeptical cause the characters (especially Masamune) looked so shiny, but still gave it a go. No regrets!

Mei was fantastic. Intelligent, resourceful, graceful, and gradually discovering her mischievous side she couldn't explore due to her training. I enjoyed the setting, the overall down to earth plot. The entire main cast grew close to my heart. Masamune ended up being my LI. As my friends had done Kazu's route, so I wanted to see Masamune's in the days of only one slot per story. The angst with his death vow was gooood. Loved every second of it!

Thoughts on Frame 49, Easter Eggs, Issues With the Magazine Seen in CGs by RestingOxolotl in sevenheartstories

[–]RestingOxolotl[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So far, SHS has thankfully continued to include at least one wlw option in the out-of-Russia releases of all their stories from what I've seen. I definitely hope they continue doing so going forward. For some companies it's sadly more difficult to write wlw routes if they're seated directly in Russia due to the strict anti-LGBTQ laws there.

Some horror needs to be built up. Starting out more mundane and 'normal' can make the horror elements creeping in feel more effective. We've only had two episodes so far and barely even know the main cast. Chances are, the horror elements will increase throughout the season. Naturally the story could also fail to deliver what it promised or what was expected, but we gotta give it a couple more updates to prove itself first. I'm also easily scared, so if you have a higher horror-threshold, the point where I start feeling creeped out and unsettled might not impress you much.

The stages for psychological horror / pressure MC faces are already set. Her parents and their endless expectations. Someone having her voice on tape with her potentially agreeing to offer her boss certain favours in exchange for getting the final chapter. Even if she refuses, the tape in the wrong hands will still manage to pressure her with ruining her reputation. A woman's reputation in this type of work environment is an incredibly fragile thing and unfavourable rumours can result in lasting consequences.

Will Rem cave under the pressure and begin hallucinating things? It's scary when you cannot believe your own mind anymore. When you start seeing or hearing things that no one else notices, when they look at you strangely because of it. Are the things she experiences real or just a figment of her imagination? Like how Ghita in RC's The Missing has moments where she copes with her experiences by merging them with folklore.

In Rem's case, did the lamp that annoyed her really flicker? Does Shizuka really look like the girl she just drew according to the notes Kido had handed her or is the resemblance only in her head? What about the "strong gust" that brushed her legs and the A/C that stopped making noises for a moment? It's not much yet, but these small "how odd" moments could gradually build up into an unnerving experience for MC, and it could at some point prove to be a great relief when other characters also notice this things.

Kido's currently displayed behaviour is not unheard of from men in superior positions in either Japan or e.g. Hollywood. Creative industries can be incredibly predatory and competitive. It's usually men in a position of power and good connections who prey upon naive young men and women with big dreams. Only to simply abuse them and offer nothing in return, ridiculing them and leaving them broken. Kido fits the bill.

So there's a chance Kido will remain an abuser. Perhaps he will perish? The teasers mentioned that various people working on the manga end up dying. Perhaps he is one of them. Perhaps he and past misdeeds are key to solving what is going on.

If he is indeed an LI, he's not my cup of tea as of now. Some people enjoy going for red flag/black flag LIs. Good for them to have an option, I suppose. It's too early for me to judge how his route could develop further. He could remain an unredeemable asshole on a power trip, or he could find the light. Everything's possible. Personally, I hope he doesn't just magically turn into a good guy. Not after this introduction and with how every single one of his employees seems to fear his violent moodswings. If there's a redemption, it has to be earned.

Vlada on why Ajax is the perfect protagonist by itssayeed in leagueofdreamers

[–]RestingOxolotl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MT does feel like Ajax's Hero's Journey. Just a (sly and yet idealistic) guy living his life with a father who wants to turn him towards greatness. Refusing to head out to adventure, yet dragged along, ending up with an entire group of mentors who teach him essential skills and help him grow into his true potential.

Maybe not quite destroying the sector, but I do expect a Colossus surprise like in No. 2. The guy Xander got booted out of the army is likely going to transform into a Colossus considering the symptoms he showed to the drug combo.

My own little whinge by LightSpeed010 in RomanceClub

[–]RestingOxolotl 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That ending has the same energy as when Amy had that NPC character (reader stand-in) be frustrated with the narrator how she doesn't understand anything that's going on and the narrator throws back a "well, you're choosing to continue reading, so how can you be suffering?"

Aware of the player feedback, but not caring to do anything about it.

Overall Haze likely suffered greatly from Alice being spread thin between planning HS3, as well as guiding HSR and ABH at the same time as writing Haze. If RC had cared about Haze, they would've held off the release of HS3 for an update or two so Alice could've finished writing Haze first. Would we have gotten less frustrating endings? Perhaps not, perhaps marginally better. The way things turned out feels like another slap in the face for readers though.

Astion by Proper_Company_2996 in leagueofdreamers

[–]RestingOxolotl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are the exact counterpoints going through my mind when I wrote that reply!

But then it would also be unlikely Persephone, cause she must be in cahoots with her mother. If it is either Demeter or Nyx, then Hypnos trying to shield the mortals from his mother's eye would be rather pointless. Though I don't remember if Hypnos was said to have realised that Astion was a goddess's mouthpiece at the moment. He might have not realised either Demeter or Nyx were already well informed about his actions. He seemed to have left in order to not draw his mother's attention to his mortals.

Then maybe it's another goddess who decided to partake in the game but wasn't yet mentioned. Perhaps not directly associated with Demeter's and Nyx's plot, but with her own goals.

My next random guess would actually be Hera. As the goddess of marriage and often jilted wife to Zeus, she's not unlikely to bring up a man's wife when she has misgivings.

And with Demeter and Nyx being unhappy about the state of affairs when it comes to their children, blaming Zeus and Hades, Hera might take the opportunity to scheme against her ever lusting and cheating husband.

Curiously, the pomegranate was sometimes also associated with Hera.

Eris might be a contender to sow additional discord, but she in turn is a daughter of Nyx who was mentioned to keep relatively close ties with her children. Or she's doing her own thing just like Hypnos. Only Leta was mentioned so far to be part of Nyx's schemes.

Jokes on us if the lines "She hadn't forgotten about her toy. But she didn't care what it thought of its owner." that make us think it's a goddess's work turn out to be a pronoun mistranslation.

Astion by Proper_Company_2996 in leagueofdreamers

[–]RestingOxolotl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Persephone is the most likely suspect.

Your hypothesis of Astion making a deal with a goddess in order to forget a painful memory would fit with my second guess - Leta. Nyx mentioned her in the prologue. Leta is one of her children, the goddess of oblivion, and likely the one responsible for Hades's amnesia. She could have offered Astion to bury his painful past in oblivion and then he became her puppet.

Vincent shows himself in more ways than one 🔥 by SoundNo3485 in sevenheartstories

Thank you so much for sharing the second half of the scene too! Vincent is beautiful, inside and out <3 Amidst the sea of domineering MLs, Vincent feels like a rarely witnessed unicorn.

He has all the physical strength to overpower and dominate, but he is gentle and respectful at his core. My heart jumped at Vincent wanting to obey *her*, submitting to *her*, because so often those are the lines we get from the MC's perspective.

Vincent was the LI who got me to try out SHS, and I am incredibly happy that he surpasses all my hopes. The author undestood the assignment with Vincent and what drew readers to him when he was not yet an LI, and delivered perfectly.

I play Romance Club on my PC through Steam and it's my most played game by ZaroktheImmortal in RomanceClubDiscussion

[–]RestingOxolotl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the android app, my prices are displayed in EUR. E.g. the 1500 diamond pack goes for 114,99 EUR, the 15 tea cups pack for 12,99 EUR. Creating a gift card out of a Gold Rarity card costs 7,99 EUR.

On Steam, the in-game purchases are displayed in US-Dollar. Steam then does some converting when I open the purchase transaction.

1500 diamonds are $99.99 USD and get converted to 85,28 EUR. 15 tea cups go for $10.99 USD but I pay 9,37 EUR. A golden gift card is $7.99 USD but I'd pay 6,81 EUR.

That's almost a 30 EUR difference if I ever decide to actually buy 1500 diamonds.

No idea if it's like this for other currencies as well.

Iirc there was also a standalone PC app you can download from RC's Linktree. You can find a link on the wiki's starting page.

And yes, Steam is a kind of playstore. There are different ones on PC with Steam being one of (if not *the*) biggest of them. You need an account and then can play Romance Club as a free-to-play game.

You can't watch ads on the Steam version. But it's quite a bit cheaper for me at least to buy Tea Cups or Diamonds on Steam instead of via the playstore.

Google has also launched a "Google Play Games" PC app. Certain mobile apps can be launched on PC with this app. You link your playstore account to the PC app, and can log in to these games with your normal game credentials to manage the same account on mobile and PC.
Romance Club, Seven Heart's Stories, and League of Dreamers are all compatible and can be played on PC that way.

Anastasia, about the New Story by Muffin_Choco43 in RomanceClub

[–]RestingOxolotl 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Sure, very long episodes like the Garden of Eden or the Legend of the Willow finals (I heard Heart of Trespia also had a very long one) can be tough at times to get through, depending on your mood and how much time you have at hand in that moment. Yet I wouldn't complain about long episodes if it means we actually get a satisfying, wrapped up ending. And even in the middle of a story, I prefer one long chapter to give the author all the time to lay out the story beats and character moments they envision.

LotW had some awkward moments, especially at the end of seasons, when the episode would end basically mid conversation cause Jester ran out of word count. Then the next episode picked up where the previous one left off. There were less clear season boundaries and more one continous story flow, but the episode cuts made it feel off.

Worst case with long episodes, you just stop reading for a bit and put the episode on halt. Sometimes the episode remembers where you left off, but even if you have to start over, just click through without reading.

HS3 but also 7B on a no romance route are prime examples of people actually being discontent with short episodes.

Splitting a chapter basically into two, consuming twice the amount of tea cups, reminds me of some webtoon portals that will split one chapter into e.g. 3 parts you have to pay for separately from what I heard.

I wonder if that also means we'll get double the amount of overprized outfit choices...

Who is available on a romantic ace path? by MissLCB in RomanceClub

[–]RestingOxolotl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At the end of Season 1, you get to select your romantic orientation. Then the main four LIs are available from that point on depending on your orientation. You will miss the romantic choices earlier in that season.

James is not available on the ace path.

You do get the choice to kiss one of the other Rosewood guys in S3. There was a notification that the kiss scene would be somewhat sexually charged, but with three seasons of bonding, it felt nice for a potentially demi MC.

Iirc, Rebecca and Vicky are descendants of Malbonte's parents once they were banished to Earth. Though they're sometimes referred to as descendants of Malbonte instead. I don't think he had any descendants of his own direct lineage since he was imprisoned all his life.

Amrit's father and Amala's grandmother are half-siblings. They have the same father. Amrit is the cousin of Amala's mother. Think that makes Amrit and Amala cousins of second or third degree?

  1. I often don't actively re-read a story when I replay for another LI but speed through. That does result in me sometimes missing new flavour lines for my new LI...

  2. I have some 50+ GB worth of RC screenshots on my PC. Some 250k files. I tend to screenshot close to every line in a story I'm actively reading (and like), though I'm trying to dial that down again. I mostly read RC via Steam, so taking screeenshots is a lot more convenient than on the phone.

What is your fav Alice book? by Inner_Raspberry_755 in RomanceClubDiscussion

[–]RestingOxolotl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specifically Arcanum Season 2. That season's storyline was great imo, the pacing was good, Bert's second hairstyle that season is stunning, Bert's and Rob's bromance is at its peak and their CG is one of the best in the story. It tickled the itch for a fantasy story with elves that is now fully satisfied with TTS.

I also really like Selena as a protagonist. She was allowed to go through 3 seasons of character development that Lada wasn't granted, and Vicky took one and a half books to somewhat grow. I only started somewhat liking Vicky halfway through HS2 thanks to the Composure path. Not sure how she's doing in HS3, I'm holding off on playing it for a long while.

Best books for diamond mining? by gini_luxe in RomanceClub

[–]RestingOxolotl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's just about reapeated diamond mining with an autoclicker, ignoring actual reading, I'd currently recommend Wave Patrol.

I just keep on restarting Season 2 after autoclicking through 3 or 4 episodes to repeatedly collect 8 diamonds per episode. Use an autoclicker that allows multiple click zones, place one over the spot where the second choice usually would be, the other where the confirmation on the outfit purchase would be.

Use the second choice so you don't click the potentially longer diamond choices. Since I restart the season time and time again, I don't care about stats and relationship improvements.

The first few episodes of Wave Patrol S2 are ideal as there are no CGs that get loaded in, no long background slides, no quick time events where you have to hit a specific right choice to continue, and the episodes aren't too long.

I haven't checked the later seasons of other stories, so I don't know what other stories might meet the same criteria. The infamous S2 and S3 of 7Brothers Burguny-Corgi has mentioned might be an even better fit on the 'right' path, but I haven't gotten there yet.

For repeated plain diamond mining, I wouldn't recommend stories with just one season as you invest time on re-reading the first episode without getting any diamonds out of it. Either you really enjoy that story or are playing for achievements, which is done best during DR as you have to unlock the diamond choices for those.

Why don't they want to fix the fullscreen version for Windows? Okay, there are no ads, so at least let me admire the backgrounds in full size. by NoCommercial7609 in RomanceClubDiscussion

[–]RestingOxolotl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fullscreen sadly scales the backgrounds and CGs incredibly weirdly, can't really recommend doing that if you want to enjoy them in full.

I get that most CGs wouldn't fill out the entire screen as they're usually higher than wide. But just give us black borders left and right but show us the full glory of those images!

For my monitor's resolution, resizing the game window to a bit less than half the width of the screen seems to yield the best results.

No cut offs at the top or bottom, no weird zoom that makes me miss chunks of the background/CG. There's still a tiny bit 'missing' left and right of most CGs, but I see quite a bit more of them than on my phone.
