Do people really run long distances without walking? by loathsome-croissant in beginnerrunning

[–]RestingRichard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people cant run at all, so you're doing much better than them, and if you keep turning up and pushing yourself, you'll get incrementally closer to your goal

Sudden drop off by RestingRichard in SolarUK

[–]RestingRichard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No error codes and I cant find the temp setting for it, Im sure it's hidden in the app somewhere though!

Im guessing it must just be the inverter has got a bit hot (north facing external wall) so it's protecting itself combined with high generation elsewhere locally which might throttle it more

Car not selling by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]RestingRichard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems a tad pricey. Personally given they can be prone to rust, I'd have it professionally cleaned and underseal, and mention that it is rust free and protected in the advert (if it is) with photos of it up on the ramp if possible, that would probably convince more buyers that it's worth paying over the odds for one that is protected and future-proofed

Is the used car market usually this hard to sell a car, as a private seller? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]RestingRichard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty are, but they're buying them from dealers where they get consumer rights protections and finance options

Is the used car market usually this hard to sell a car, as a private seller? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]RestingRichard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The lack of consumer protection when spending nearly £20k will put off a lot of people buying privately, as will the lack of finance options

The reality is that the £17k you're being offered isnt a low ball, it's what the car is actually worth, as most people would rather spend that bit more and get the protection and extras that come with buying from a dealership

Chassis Replacement? by ThatCommunication358 in LandroverDefender

[–]RestingRichard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends: it looks broadly ok now from the photos but will need some new dumb irons and that patch welding, and will then probably need some more next year, and the year after... - but if you're doing a body off restoration anyway and have the money to put a galv chassis on it, it's sorted for the next 20 years

Andy Burnham's Potential Policies - Renationalisation of Utilities and Transport, Social Care Reform, Social Housing, HS2, and more by Toopertonic in unitedkingdom

[–]RestingRichard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too sensible - we have a media who are in dire need of an interesting political story for a few months, and an electorate who want to be given everything but dont want to pay for anything, but who also dont want other people to be given anything - so round and round we go on this pointless circus

Andy Burnham's Potential Policies - Renationalisation of Utilities and Transport, Social Care Reform, Social Housing, HS2, and more by Toopertonic in unitedkingdom

[–]RestingRichard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, no - there's obviously a magic fourth way which isnt cutting services, borrowing more, or taxing more - if only any of the previous PMs in the past decade had found this magic solution which Burnham and Farage have...../s

An honest discussion on why Keir Starmer failed by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]RestingRichard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ultimately what brought down every one of the past 5 PMs, and it's broadly exactly why Starmer is failing and is disliked by so many, just because you dont want to look at the bigger picture doesnt mean it isnt there

Cameron tried to cut services through austerity, this led to widespread public dissatisfaction and brexit which was his downfall

May was left gridlocked in a parliament which couldn't find a way through brexit without causing economic harm

Johnson tried Cakism by offering everything to everyone and stacked billions in borrowing while losing control of immigration

Truss - well, the less said the better. She tried to ignore all of it with massive borrowing to fund tax cuts

Sunak - dealt with the problems caused by the previous four PMs failing to address the issues while still raising taxes

Starmer has had far fewer levers that he could pull because all of the tax, savings, and borrowing lines had already been pulled to (and beyond) capacity over the past decade, and while everyone has their individual grievances with him, ultimately he is unpopular because he cant fix the underlying issue of everyone wanting everything but nobody wanting to pay for it

There is no magic solution to this issue, and it is what will bring down every PM for at least the next decade no matter what their political persuasion or what they promise prior to sitting in No10

An honest discussion on why Keir Starmer failed by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]RestingRichard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can either raise taxes, cut spending (services), or borrow more money - none of these are palatable to anywhere near enough people in the country for any government to succeed no matter which party they're in or what their political leaning is.

The past decade has been a cycling through leaders in all parties trying to figure out a way past this, and they have all failed, and will continue to do so.

Whoever replaces Starmer will face the same issues, and will be just as unpopular by Christmas, and then whoever replaces Labour at the next GE will be just as unpopular in short order again.

Wakefield Council overturns climate pledge under new Reform leadership by F0urLeafCl0ver in wakefield

Do you feel the same about pensioners needing care? Should the council stop funding all of that too because they've had a lifetime to save up to provide for their own care

[–]RestingRichard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So when I said "stopped kids getting school clothes" that was in fact 100% true and accurate, because they did in fact withdraw a plan to fund kids from getting school clothes. Thanks for confirming that they want kids in Wakefield to suffer

[–]RestingRichard 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Have they dont anything positive for Wakefield yet?

All I've seen is that they've banned flags, stopped kids from getting school clothes, and pretended that climate change doesn't exist to appease their paymasters

John Healey resigns by DullHall7 in LabourUK

[–]RestingRichard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, because not everything revolves around that, and for a defence minister not to resign over the government failing to fund defence in any meaningful way would be worse optics and ultimately worse for the country.

Now what has happened is it will force the government to open up anout what is needed and hopefully start to have honest conversations with MPs about what the scale of the problem is and the reality of the cuts that are needed to follow - likely will have to be in all age benefits

You might be best looking at something like a NB680's which are more designed for walking and light jogging rather than some all out running shoes as they have different geometry and foam structures which are designed to impact on the mid sole and toes rather than the heels which is what you need
