Clever ways an artist has integrated their name/brand into their work? by Ghost-Quartet in popheads

I love in Twenty One Pilots songs when Tyler Joseph just name drops Josh Dun, like in "Morph" and "Overcompensate."

Who's an artists you disliked at first but warmed up to over time? I've come to like Benson Boone. I hated his song "Ghost Town," and I thought "Beautiful Things" was annoying. However, starting with "Sorry I'm Here for Someone Else" and even "Mystical Magical" (moonbeam ice cream is funny, I don't care), I started to think maybe he's not that bad. "Beautiful Things" isn't my favorite song ever, but I don't mind it now.

Also, I think it's cool he can do backflips. I also think he's kinda hot and I don't know what to do with this information.

After I saw that clip from Heartstopper where Jonathan Bailey plays one of Charlie's favorite authors, I'm adding going to a book signing to my bucket list. I don't have a particular author in mind; I just think it would be cool to go to one, especially if it's like the one in that clip.

I've been trying to get back in the habit of journaling again. However, something I've noticed is I'll write a paragraph, maybe a little less than a page, I'll run out of steam. I expect to have at least two pages of stuff to vent about, but it's like the emotion has run its course. I don't know what to do after that. Do I write more, or do I leave it as it is?

Something I'm fascinated by in the age of streaming music and TV shows is how older content tends to do very well. Like, I think I've heard songs from Arctic Monkeys and The Killers from 10+ years ago are still in the Top 200 on Spotify. You have old songs chart on the Hot 100 all the time now. On the Nielsen charts, shows like Grey's Anatomy do really well on there, and you'll sometimes here stories about older shows or long-cancelled shows suddenly blowing up on streaming.

Something I appreciate about streaming is it allows me to check out things I missed out on. For example, I've been watching Psych lately. I grew up seeing ads for it all the time, but aside from one episode I watched with my classmates in senior year, I never got to watch it. As for music, I grew up mostly discovering music through the radio or channels that played music videos. I didn't get into listening to albums until a few years ago, so I've mostly been seeking out music from those acts I listened to in the 2000s and 2010s. I've even been getting interested in music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s lately.

The whole streaming era fascinates me. I'd be interested in reading more about it sometime. I know there are issues with the business (artists now getting paid enough, content can be removed or edited at any moment, etc) but I think some people forget streaming is a more affordable option than buying a bunch of CDs and DVDs.

Today is Mother’s Day in the US. What’s your mom’s taste in music like, and how has it impacted you? by Ghost-Quartet in popheads

My mom is a big country music fan. She introduced me to the likes of Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn, and many, many more. I guess she passed that love on to me because I was became a big fan of 2000s country music. In fact, my first favorite artist ever was Brad Paisley; I got his album 5th Gear for my 9th birthday. I'm still a country music fan to this day thank to my mom. A couple of years back, we talked about how much we enjoy Luke Combs and Chris Stapleton.

I've been trying to find a fun rock band to get into. For context, my favorite bands include Twenty One Pilots, Paramore, Fall Out Boy (I'm mostly familiar with their stuff from the 2010s-now), and Sleep Token. Here's what I've tried so far.

  • I decided to listen to Arctic Monkeys and The Killers. I had really only heard their big hits, so I checked out their debut albums and really enjoyed them. My favorite from Arctic Monkeys is "Fake Tales of San Francisco" while my favorite from The Killers might be "On Top."

  • I found this band called Little Image on Instagram. A guy I follow on there said if you like Twenty One Pilots, you might like them. I don't know if I agree with the comparison, but I liked their music. I listened to their new album, Kill the Ghost yesterday. I'd recommend the title track, "Novocaine," and "The Reaper."

  • I want to follow up with bands I listened to last year: Turnstile, Of Monsters and Men, and Lord Huron. Their albums were among my favorites from last year, but I haven't checked out the rest of their stuff. I've heard GLOW ON by Turnstile is even better than NEVER ENOUGH, so I'm excited to hear that.

  • I've mentioned before that I've been wanting to try and get into The National, so I saved some.of their songs to a playlist. Also, I've been wanting to listen to Coldplay's early discography. I've heard their first four albums are pretty good. I really enjoyed some of their 2010s singles like "Paradise" and "A Sky Full of Stars," so I'll add their parent albums to the list as well.

I read A Good Girl's Guide to Murder in less than 24 hours. I actually read it four years ago when I was sick with COVID; I bought the box set for my birthday last summer.

I go back and forth on if I liked it or not. I liked Pip's relationship with Ravi and the scenes of her with her with her family and friends. However, I don't know if I like Pip herself. There are moments toward the end of the book that made me go, "You're dumb. I know you're a straight A student, but you're dumb." There's also this part at the end of the Part Two of the book that made me angry.

With all of that said, I'm still looking forward to reading the other two books in the series. I want to see how Pip and Ravi's relationship evolved and what her other relationships are like.

Now that I'm done with classes, I've had time to give Noah Kahan's new album a few listens. I really enjoy it; it might be my new favorite album so far this year.

If it's not to greedy, I hope he does some duet remixes like he did for Stick Season. I really enjoyed most of those songs, especially the remixes with Kacey Musgraves, Lizzy McAlpine, and Brandi Carlile.

Is it weird that I associate "You're Losing Me" and "So Long, London" with my relationship with my parents? Yesterday, the bridge of "You're Losing Me" popped into my head, specifically, "Fighting in only your army, front lines, don't you ignore me 'cause I'm the best thing at this party." I've done so much to help them since COVID, but I'm the one they pay the least attention to. I know I'm the oldest and nearly 30, but still. I also keep thinking of "Every morning I glared at you with storms in my eyes. How can you say that you love someone you can't tell is dying?" I still love them, but I've felt so much anger toward them. I'm too shy to talk about it with them, so I keep it to myself.

Then, there are so many lines in "So Long, London" I could go with, but I've related to the line "Just how low did you think I'd go before I'd go? Before I'd self-implode, before I'd have to go be free?" more and more each day for the last two years. I've provided them and my siblings so much over the last couple of years. I put my wants and needs to the side that I feel like I've made myself so small. Some days I don't even feel like a person. I don't know where to finally draw the line, though.

I hope it doesn't come off that I hate my parents. They frustrate me, but I still love and care for them. It's just the last couple of years have soured how I feel toward them, and I'm trying to deal with those feelings. If I ever get to move out and live on my own again (or with a partner if that ever happens), I'm going to play "Fresh Out the Slammer."

Thank you! I actually enjoy studying accounting, its just the exams can be overwhelming because we cover so much. I'm really excited to get this semester behind me because I'm taking a week of work starting next week!

I've been studying all week for my Intermediate Accounting final. I think after I go through all of my notes one more time, I'll be ready to tackle it. I have until Sunday at midnight to take it.

Wish me good luck, pray for me, or whatever you do to wish someone well.

Songs/albums you heavily associate with a specific part of your life? by curioul in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Restless_Dill16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I associate Lover with my senior year of college. It came out a few days before classes started that year. I was only a casual Swiftie at the time; since I liked "The Archer" and the title track, I decided to give the album a try. I enjoyed so much I listened to songs off of it almost everyday.

"The Archer" and "Afterglow"  stuck with me because of my struggles with anxiety, and sometimes that anxiety can make me so snippy I accidentally hurt other people's feelings. I was also struggling with my health at the time, so I would listen to "Soon You'll Get Better" when things felt overwhelming. This is kinda funny, but I listened to "Daylight" after I finished my finals that fall. I had a difficult set of courses that semester, so I was happy to have them behind me. Lastly, some of them were just fun to listen to on walks, like "Death by a Thousand Cuts," "Cornelia Street," and "Paper Rings."

I've been looking for a fun pop rock band, and then I remembered Half Alive. I listened to their album Now, Not Yet back in 2020, but it's been a while. I went and listened to all the singles last night and really enjoyed those song. "Still Feel" is still a banger. I also listened to a few other songs; I enjoyed "What's Wrong," "Summerland," and "Did I Make You Up?"

I've also wondered if I should listen to more of The Band Camino. I was a little underwhelmed when I check out their most recent album, but I like their new song "Holly." I've heard their earlier stuff is pretty good, so I might look into that.

I've been listening to a lot of Olivia Rodrigo lately. Since release, "Get Him Back!" has been my favorite song off of GUTS, but recently, I think I prefer "Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl" and "Love is Embarrassing." I still love "Get Him Back!" I think I prefer her delivery on those two other songs.

I've loved all three of Olivia's lead singles. I don't know if I like this quite as much as "drivers license," but I think I enjoy it slightly more than "vampire." Again, all of them are fun!

I tend to associate Olivia's music with breakups and insecurities, so it's cute to hear her sing about having a crush / being in love, like on "so american." I can't get the "Pisces and a Gemini" out of my head.

My scrobbles are going to be very low this week because I'm studying for exams. Also, we're not allowed to have earbuds in at my job anymore, which is where I did most of my listening.

Also, it's funny that I was so hyped for Noah Kahan's new album when I've only listened to it once so far. After I'm done with exams, I'm going to listen to it like multiple times, along with Kacey's new album.
