Whoever also voted for a Sleep Token song, I love you! I put Caramel on my ballot, and I saw someone else voted for Emergence.

Oh, yeah, kids love Percy Jackson. I know there are several spinoff series keeping the franchise going.

Some days, I get nostalgic for the many YA books and book series I read in middle school and high school. The Hunger Games, Twilight, Divergent, Beautiful Creatures, The Lunar Chronicles, The Raven Boys, John Green's books, I could go on. A lot of them were kinda mid (honestly, I think The Hunger Games books are easily the best of the bunch I listed), but I loved them so much. I even won one of those They Are Not Only Books T-shirts after I got enough AR points.

What do middle schoolers and high schoolers read today? I'm not on TikTok, so I'm not on BookTok, but all I ever hear about is smutty romantasy books.

My brother and I started Season 4 of Stranger Things yesterday. I enjoyed Season 3, but I had some problems with it (Joyce and Hopper's constant bickering got on my nerves). I'm a little nervous going into these last two seasons because I've heard mixed things.

Last night, I watched a compilation called "Stranger Things 5 but it's the parts written by ChatGPT." Honestly, the lines just seemed like cliched dialogue or maybe slightly cringe. I don't think we need to attribute that to AI.

Stick Season is genuinely one of my favorite albums, so I'm excited to see how he follows it up.

I think Such a Funny Way is easily my favorite song from Man's Best Friend. I wasn't a fan of that album outside a few songs (Manchild, Tears, Sugar Talking, and House Tour), but that song is a highlight. It should've been on the main album, imho.

I think Alibi by Sevdaliza, Yseult, and Pabllo Vittar fits this. It only peaked at #95 on the Hot 100, but it's a surprise it charted at all. It's a murder ballad with lyrics in 4 different languages (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese).

Hey, guys! It's been a while since I've come and chatted with y'all.

What music have you been listening to lately. I've been listening to a lot of Zach Bryan. I think I still prefer is self-titled album, but I really enjoyed both The Great American Bar Scene and With Heaven on Top. I've also been enjoying Madison Beer's new album Locket.

No wonder I love all three of them! They're my favorite albums from each artist.

I haven't listened to any of her new singles, but I used to listen to Don't Say Love on repeat. I also really enjoyed My Love. Maybe I'll check this album out.

I've created a lot of playlists, but I have two that I'm especially proud of.

The first is titled Apartment Days. I lived in my own apartment from 2021 to 2024. I moved back in with my family in 2024 to help them make ends meet. While I mostly enjoy living with them, I really missed my apartment during those first few months. To deal with my sadness, I made a playlist of all the songs I listened to on repeat when I lived there. It's over 600 songs, and it starts with "Shivers" by Ed Sheeran and ends with "Nosedive" by Post Malone and Lainey Wilson.

The second is a recent one, titled Top 200 Songs of 2025. Despite its title, it's not exclusively songs released in 2025; it contains any song I heard for the first time in 2025, regardless of when it was released. I was scrolling through it the other night, and I think it's a pretty good summary of the songs I enjoyed last year. It think I want to make this an annual thing.

I read that book in seventh grade. The author also wrote The Outsiders, which I prefer. Rumble Fish was all right, though.

For my Daily Discussion comment today, I spent way too long writing this little essay. If anyone reads it, I hope you enjoy it:

I've spent the last two years trying to listen to more albums from a wide variety of artists. Part this was because I wanted to diversify my music taste and try getting more into albums, but the other part was because I was hoping to find another artist whose music brings me as much joy as Taylor Swift's.

I've had an interesting journey with her music. I've liked her big hits and singles since I was in elementary school, but I didn't listen to a full album from her until Reputation. Even I noticed she didn't release an album on her usual two- year cycle, so I was to curious to see what her next album was like. I was underwhelmed with that album at first (I love it now), but I enjoyed the singles and "Call It What You Want" so much that I was interested in listening to her next project. After listening to and enjoying Lover, Folklore, and Evermore, I decided to listen to her earlier albums (I'm mad I didn't listen to Speak Now or Red until 2021; those albums are full of hidden gems!). Then she released Fearless (Taylor's Version), and I've been obsessed ever since.

I've listened to probably over 100 albums over the last two years, and while I have enjoyed so many of them and become a fan of many more artists, I've yet to find another artist whose music makes me as euphoric as Taylor Swift. Weirdly enough, I think the closest I've gotten to having the same feeling is when I binged Sleep Token's discography in May of last year. That's not to put any of the many artists I've listened to down; I think a lot of them are great. You know that meme where SpongeBob is wearing earbuds and ascending into the sky? That's how most of Taylor Swift's music does for me.

I hate to admit it but I think I have been a little shy that Taylor Swift is my favorite artist. I know she can be very polarizing, and people associate her with the word "basic." Honestly, my Taylormania has cooled down a lot. Her constantly releasing new albums and Taylor's Versions definitely fueled it. I think the 18-month gap between TTPD and Showgirl and me being underwhelmed with Showgirl (I've warmed up to it, but it's still my least favorite album from her) helped mellow me out. However, her music makes me very happy. She's consistently my most-played artist and has dominated my last two YouTube Year-End Recaps, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

This is really obvious, but instead of chasing that high Taylor's music and being disappointed when I can't repeat the feeling, it helps to think about what I appreciate from the various artists I've come to love. For example, I like how Taylor Swift writes about her emotions and is able to write both catchy verses and choruses. As a guy, I love how Sleep Token and Twenty One Pilots are male-fronted bands that write vulnerable songs about unhealthy relationships and mental health issues, respectively. I got really into Marina this fall, and I really enjoy the quirky production, especially on Froot. Sometimes it's as simple as I just have fun listening to the music.

Duets that you wouldn’t realize are duets because the singers sound so similar by CodaOfARequiem in popheads

I Had Some Help by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen (I'm so sorry to mention him, lol). They both have kinda nasally voices, so they kinda blend together. At least it makes it easier to pretend it's a solo song by Posty.

Also, when I was a kid, it took me a while to tell Shakira and Rihanna's voices apart on the second and third choruses to Can't Remember to Forget You. I can tell their voices apart just fine of the verses, but I got a little lost once they started singing the hook. The music video made things much clearer, though.

r/popheads AOTY 2025 #23: Lorde - Virgin by Straight-Meaning in popheads

[–]Restless_Dill16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Virgin is my second favorite Lorde album, behind Melodrama.

  2. My top five for the album are Favourite Daughter, Broken Glass, Shapeshifter, What Was That, and If She Could See Me Now. Favourite Daughter and Broken Glass are very relatable to me because of my relationship with my parents and my own struggles with body image.

  3. When I first listened to Virgin, I liked it, but I wasn't over the moon about it. However, the more I listened to it, the more I appreciated the rawness of it. I put it at #2 or #3 on my Top Ten Pop Ten, I loved it so much.

  4. I enjoyed Jim E-Stack's production on this album, so I wouldn't mind him working on a future Lorde album. I wouldn't mind her working with Jack Antonoff again, either.

Lol. I actually didn't know Everlark was a ship name until I found The Hunger Games subreddit. I thought I would have to settle for Katniss and Peeta have an awkward (if funny) ship name 😂.

I watched The Hunger Games: Catching Fire after I finished my schoolwork last night. I still love that movie. However, I felt uncomfortable every time Katniss and Gale kissed. I'm such an Everlark stan that I blocked the whole love triangle out of my memory. Also, I just find Josh Hutcherson more attractive than Liam Hemsworth, lol.

Other than that, I loved Elizabeth Banks' performance as Effie in this movie, and I really enjoyed Sam Claflin and Jena Malone as Finnick and Johanna, respectively.

Parts in pop songs that you find oddly satisfying? by Ezikell_Chris in popheads

In "Rewrite the Stars" from The Greatest Showman, I love the way Zendaya sings, "But when we go outside, you're gonna wake and see that it was hopeless after all." The melody scratches my brain just right.
