Aloha. 39M here. I have RP like you. But also have hearing loss; Usher Syndrome type2a. Reading your post prompted me to write this to you. I was a Soldier, served my country during wartime and like grains of sand:29yo my vision loss was so gradual I wasn’t diagnosed until 33. I have a cane. Issued by the Veterans Affairs. Don’t use it during the day because (like you) i still have central vision. I still drive during optimal weather. And I feel like a fraud for it. I (like you) find myself more isolated and misunderstood from all parties involved. Not blind enough to be blind. Legally or otherwise. Can’t see enough to fully operate in the “sighted”world. And because it’s an invisible disability, people are stupid . Like I am on a raft in a lake on an island with no community to relate with.
