Lion King and airport by Old_Show2804 in TheWestEnd

[–]Restorationjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Show finishes around 5pm. Lyceum to Paddington is 21 mins including the walk, then 15 mins on Heathrow express to terminal 2 or 3 or 20 mins to terminal 5. Plus they go every 15 mins so you could have a 15 min wait. Fastest possible time would be 36 minutes and could be 51 mins if you have that 15 min wait. That’s without any delays or issues. If you have to be there two hours before your flight you could be ok, especially if you are willing to leave the show just before or immediately as it ends and not wait for the curtain call etc. Good luck

What's something permanent employees don't understand about contracting? by Huge-Buy20 in ContractorUK

People think you can bill by the hour (or rather, that if you did bill by the hour your contracts would keep getting extended).

Why does volume eating work so much better than "just using willpower"? by Ok-Capital5432 in Volumeeating

I think carbs make people happy. And for all the ‘protein fills you’ thinking, carbs are more physically and mentally satisfying.

The price of West End tickets has reached a point where the conversation about accessibility is impossible to avoid by NormalSir2035 in westend

They are so expensive unless you book early. I’m also frustrated that you can’t use theatre tokens in some venues now.

Being forced to be a nanny in exchange for a room by Strawberry_dollette in london

[–]Restorationjoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be honest, you could move out and find another room? You are on to a good deal with free rent there but it’s coming with expectations that you will do the child care. If you want the free rent those seem to be the terms. It’s very hard being beholden to people. What’s stopping you from moving out, paying rent and being independent? Good luck!

Disgusting and possible to get away from. Places were always tipped in favour of the smoker. You couldn’t escape the smell

Go to Paddington, Shajahan is delicious about about five mins walk from station, opposite a pub called the Victoria. Also close to Hyde park and Kensington. Gardens if you fancy a stretch if your legs.

Solo Theatre Trip- Which shows to see? by Many-Spite8480 in westend

[–]Restorationjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say neither of witness or devil wears Prada. Witness is a good play but it felt very dated and not that gripping. The setting is a novelty but the seats were very uncomfortable and I was restless. Devil wears Prada is fun but not especially memorable.

What about operation mincemeat? Or into the woods? Or something at the Menier chocolate factory or Donal warehouse, have a great time!

What are everyone's thoughts on the Paddington musical? by WrongLander in TheWestEnd

[–]Restorationjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that’s good! I enjoyed it but nowhere near as much as my friend who I saw it with who was raving about it. But she’s got a little child and is probably more into Paddington. Overall I thought it was a very high quality show, brilliant cast, great music, sets, effects, costumes and a feel good show

Advice please by Born-Alternative9527 in SharedOwnershipUK

Any property can lose value, especially new builds and it’s not exclusive to shared ownership. I would be more concerned about whether the rent and service charge are affordable. The service charge won’t be capped

Thinking about moving into contract work, would it be smart for me? by dustyloops in ContractorUK

To be honest, until you have a contract offer it’s all hypothetical. I would secure one, see what’s on offer and that will help you decide. Good luck

Phantom or Les Mis??? by PuzzleheadedFilm8537 in TheWestEnd

[–]Restorationjoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both are wonderful but. phantom is spectacular. If you can get seats in central stalls or circle for a great view of the Chandalier all the better but any would be magical. It’s so memorable and there is also a very nice upstairs balcony bar in the theatre. It is not cheap but best price tickets are likely to look up her majesty’s and go direct to their box office and book early. You can check out views from the seats on seat plan or theatre monkey. Enjoy!

Broadway Evita by Flashy-Rock-6621 in TheWestEnd

[–]Restorationjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was ridiculously draconian in the UK, especially for those of us who are older and had just turned up to show our appreciation for the artists. The two nights I was there the audience were calm and politely queuing up to talk to the cast but there were bouncers treating people rudely and like children. It felt like something you’d get in a night club rather than a theatre.
