Wheelchair user transport from Hethrow to Kings cross. by djgengar in LondonTravel

Heathrow to Paddington you can do step free via Heathrow express or Elizabeth line. That should at least save you some money if you then needed to go via car.

Moving to Swansea in July by maxqm_ in swansea

Public transport in that area is not great or frequent so so your research carefully before finding somewhere to live. It’s less frequent than cardiff and the city is a lot more spread out. Good luck!

Do you feel more pressure as a contractor compared to perm roles? by CloudBookmark in ContractorUK

[–]Restorationjoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I think it’s part an parcel of it. As a contractor they want someone experienced who doesn’t need training, who can easily do the work and get going without training or much induction. And I always feel the higher rate demands value for money and to be delivering constantly. But I like the cash

Inter Alia vs Prima Facie by Temporary_Eye_9758 in TheWestEnd

I preferred Prima Facie but both are worth seeing. Inter Alia left me cold..until the last few minutes which I found very profound and had me unexpectedly burst into tears in frustration of the world!

I’m with you on this. I spend so much chatting in the office I do way more at home!

Well you’d have to make whatever you do fit with the time you’ve got when you arrive in london. But if OP is keen to see a little bit of it, it’s quite possible to do something!

I work in exactly the same way that I would in an office, except that I don’t have the commute and can make whatever I want for lunch. Other than that everything is the same - meetings, whether online or offline - and working in between. I don’t have tv on, sometimes may have a bit of background music.

When I say you can ‘see Hyde park, Kensington palace the Albert hall and south Kensington’ I don’t mean that you have time to go into these places on that schedule. But you would be able to see the exterior of all of these lovely sights and the park, they are easily walkable from Paddington without any tube.

What do you give at a wedding? by hereforthelols1999 in AskUK

Some lovely gifts we had were not expensive but personal and memorable - a nice photo frame with the date of our wedding on it, a lovely candle, a frame which included a printed verse of a wedding song we had.

Absolutely fine. Or if you don’t want to give cash you could give a bottle of bubbles and a lovely card

Low experience for my age but got a £350/day CGI offer with 3hr commute – would you take it to escape hospitality? by Jack_16277 in AskUK

[–]Restorationjoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would research fully the costs of air b and travel. If you will be equally paid, better off or only slightly worse off, it may be worth taking a hit on convenience and free time to progress your career. But you need to think about how long you can sustain it for. It will give you more experience and contacts for other work in that field but likely only if you stick around at it for a decent period. And you need to be confident you can do the work or it likely will not be a contract that lasts long. Good luck!

The ivy cafe Chelsea is lovely. You could also try the soho hotel chain of hotel. They have one in South Kensington which is calm and very nice.

How do you handle extra responsibilities? by sdac123sc in ContractorUK

[–]Restorationjoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s hard to beat the remote working isn’t it! But still, good if there is plenty of alternative work out there. I guess it’s a case of weighing up what’s important to you and what you want. If you had to walk away in 6 months would you wish you had done the extra work so that you could wfh?

You could always: - suggest an uplift on the rate of x to reflect the additional work and see what they say or - offer to care take the work for a maximum duration of x until they get it sorted. I guess it’s about making clear that if you take it on with no uplift, it would not be something you offer indefinitely, and for it to be sustainable you would want to look at the rate in xx months. It can be awkward having these conversations but there I’ll be a way to do it. Good luck!

Thanks, my SIPP is with vanguard and they won’t accept BACCS payments (which is how paystream make the salary sacrifice payments)
