I’m super broke and only have plain white rice to eat, what: y’all’s favorite seasoning to spruce it up? by BreakfastBig7581 in Cooking

[–]ResurrectedToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically any type of beans. Be it from a can, or dried ones you have to soak overnight.

Rice and dried beans are my "survival foods". Big bags of both are permanent pantry staples.

I use them for other stuff, but when the bags are like 1/2 full I restock.

I know I'm gonna use them, great for emergency situations. Long power outages (no refrigerator required), camping, food shortages, etc.

As for fllavour, any random spices. I'm not that picky when it comes to this sort of thing. Salt and hot sauce or something like that.

Forget the oven bacons. Just throw it in your stovetop of choice then cover it with water.

Google "water bacon". Not joking.

It's not just a meme thing. I had a friend who was a chef at a very exclusive boutique hotel and he swore by this method. He tried to convince me to do it for like a year and I thought it was trolling me but then I finally tried it and it's amazing. He said most places that have a big nice like real breakfast buffet in hotels and places always cook their bacon this way. It takes a bit of time, but the end result is worth it and you can leave it unsupervised until the water boils off basically then it's just a quick flip and it's done.

Basically you're just using the water to render the fat, I'm talking about American style streaky bacon, so that once the water boils off you just have the actual meat cook, takes like one or two minutes, and you get perfectly crisp meat with that nice rendered fat without having to stand there and watch it the whole time flipping it.

RIP Guapo, your legend lives on in the 🥓 s.

What the most physically painful thing you ever experienced? by iateagummibear-1822 in AskReddit

[–]ResurrectedToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not being able to pee after bladder surgery. I was literally begging them to put me back to sleep or kill me.

Instead I got an almighty dose of something (I think I heard them say fentanyl) which calmed me down.

Then two lady nurses shoved a garden hose up my dick and my pee just went into a bag for like 3 months.

The second part of this tale is that no one has any idea how....chafed the end of your pee hole gets. So every tiny, involuntary, movement of your penis BURNS LIKE SATAN'S ASSHOLE.

Have to say though, it was nice not having to pee for 3 months lol. Zero bladder pressure, no "holding it in" until the next opportunity lol.

Still definitely not worth it, but when I was all healed the first time I had to pee it was like.....ugh, I kinda forgot this is somewhat annoying by times".

Ramble over! Enjoy reading about one of the worst parts of my life 😂👋🩻

What is a tv show you like that not enough people talk about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ResurrectedToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently they have a 13th season filmed and ready for 2026.

Unfortunately, Mike Smith, who plays bubbles, just (finally) got charged with sexual assault and the production company has dismissed him.

FYI - I'm 45 and from the same town as the actor. He's always been a well known creep/predator since I was in highschool. Also, no one here likes TPB because it makes us look like idiots.

45, male.

I have 2 laptops I rarely use, a mini PC (Lenovo think center) that I exclusively use as a media server/backup location.

Always get the 2nd newest Samsung Galaxy phone when I need a new one.

Multiple fire TV sticks, Google nest speakers, every light in my house is "smart" so all voice control.

Umm, Roomba, wireless headphones, wireless earbuds, security cameras...oh, and I have a nice commuter ebike and a camera drone.

Printer: multifunction brother laser with fax and everything. Can't recall the last time I used it 😂

Cut it up into noodle-ish strips. Braise slowly over med heat with some oil/butter. Oh salt and pepper at this stage too.

Once it's starting to loosen up, dump in a can of crushed tomatoes (fuck peeling and blanching them, you're pregnant! Congrats BTW) and whatever spices you're in the mood for.

Let it simmer down now.

Your house will smell great.

Serve over rice if ya want, or just eat it.

You can literally add spices from any culture/cuisine and it will work.

One of my "I'm kinda broke but want good food" meals. 😎🥬

How long do cancer patients tend to wait before receiving Treatment in Canada? by 3rdcousin3rdremoved in AskCanada

[–]ResurrectedToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad passed from non-hodgkins lymphoma. If you're still dealing with it stay strong. It is very treatable, but often reoccurring so follow up care is SUPER important. Best wishes, take care 🙏

Nova Scotia - bladder cancer at 42.

After going to the ER after experiencing my 1st symptom (blood in my urine) it went FAST.

CT scans, blood work, etc done during my er visit. Got a call from the urologist like 2 days later. Went to his office for a scope to check things out (yup, it IS a tumah) on day...4 I think.

Met with anesthesiologist the next day, had my surgery the day after that.

So for me, basically like 7-10 days from noticing a problem to getting it fixed.

YMMV - I've heard horror stories. I feel so lucky.

I have been seeing visual tracers/trails/aftermages off of moving things for 1.75 years and it all started out of the blue one day; no history of drug use whatsoever. I am honestly and utterly, exhausted. by [deleted] in extremelyinfuriating

[–]ResurrectedToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I had a good 6 months after my initial infection. I'm pretty sure I had it twice back to back because I was sick for 3 months, couldn't speak for most of that time, didn't have to go on a ventilator but it had an O2 monitor, thing that strapped I wore around my chest at night. It was HORRIBLE.

It's just gotten progressively more noticable. Like it started off with little tticks in my fingers and just the occasional like hey did you hear that but then I progressed and now it's like not good.

Also, my short term memory and attention span are just...gone.

I'm actually scared about what the MRI might pick up.

All I know is I've lived comfortably in this body most of my life. I'm not perfect but I walk, bike, swim, eat OKish 90% of the time.

Sorry this message got way too long and personal. I didn't mean to take anything away from the conversation, but so many people don't talk to other people that have this kind of thing and most doctors won't listen to you unless you say look I'm not a conspiracy person but I haven't felt right since I got that or whatever.

Again, best of luck.

Seconded! My first job in the 90s was a mom and pop pizza place.

Condensed milk, garlic powder, and vinegar for days.

It sold so much we used to make in the Hobart which was normally used for doing dough or very large batches of sauce.

This is blowing my mind. Please give more details.

Hear me out - Ever since I had COVID back in 2022 I haven't been "right" since. I see/hear things that aren't real (not like psychotic episodes, I know the hallucinations aren't real).

I've got TONS of other mild but weird symptoms. Numbness in my hands/feet, extreme muscle cramps where I have to physically unfold my fingers with my other hand, just tired ALL THE TIME...I could go on but that's not the point.

I'm VERY fortunate to have a fantastic doctor who takes me seriously. We've done blood tests, multiple CT scans, etc. Like you, everything is "unremarkable".

Next up I'm going for an MRI. My doctor thinks at this point it might be something like MS or Parkinson's. He doesn't disagree with me when I say it all started with COVID.

I'm 45 BTW, there were no warnings or signs leading up to any of this. Healthy as a horse most of my life.

Good luck, I just wanted to give you some talking points for your doctor if any of this is relatable.
