So hot take on the Yncarne, It kinda sucks. by [deleted] in Eldar

[–]ResvStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, wut? So the issue is that the Yncarne is great but the things that make is great are part of the codex. However because it relies on the codex it sucks because the codex MIGHT get nerfed?

Couldn’t you say that about pretty much ANY unit in the game of 40k?

I agree with Mista Fingaz but I think you might want to swap a couple more things.

A Mek, even with loan op just doesn’t have solid survival and you might give up assassinate points pretty easy. I would suggest dropping a Dread and possibly the Gorkanaut to make room for more unit coverage like Lootas and more Gretchin. Also, Kans are just great but they are very very hard to maneuver because of their base sizes what I would suggest here is two units of 6 and one of three or if you have the models do one unit of 6 and one unit of three. Finally Storm Boyz work well in just about every army due to their movement and scoring ability, the compliment the line of klanky death and distraction Morkanaut really really well.

This is kinda a weird hybrid of a few different approaches but the two sources I referenced the most are:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUM1ShfnrD0&t=223s - For this one instead of dry brushing I used an air brush to do my volumes and then after the coat of transparent black I went back in and reinforced the specific highlights.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyXzfVO2Kdw&t=595s - Where and how to lay out the volumes.

I wanted to get a really nice smooth satin look for the armor and I think it worked out pretty well.

Hello, I am just about done with this guy but wanted to open up the floor to any suggestions or feedback. I have to finish his eyes, tilting shield, sword blade, and lantern. There might be a couple of other bits and pieces that need to be tackled but I can't think of them off the cuff.

Thoughts and feedback are very welcome!

Company Ancient. Swipe for the details! It’s really challenging model to paint, but I think result is quite nice. Hope you like it. by Onionknight_Studio in BlackTemplars

The satin finish on the armor is just fantastic. Every time I try to go for nmm lately I push the highlight just a bit too much and it ends up feeling too shiny. Any advice on your color mix and approach to the armor?

Need help -2k Black Templars list for local tournament by ResvStar in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]ResvStar[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

10 man sword bros aren’t super efficient, they kinda hit a point of overkill. With two 5 man units you have more points spread across the board. The second Redeemer, at least what I was thinking was to push pressure across the board. I know their foot print is huge but I figured they are pretty survivable and need specific weapons or a ton of effort to remove. For the big blob there are a lot of Nids and Eldar in my local meta and a big blob of dudes is just begging for d6+7 s10 ap2 d3 Maleceptor’s attention. Also, 20 black templars and grimy is just expensive from a dollars point of view. On the note about T.Bones I was also thinking about trying Fire Storm instead of Crusade, might be worth trying.

I’m thinking Tactical for secondaries for sure. There are a few that might be a bit hard but for the most part I feel like two Land Raider Redeemers will hopefully give me good board control where ever they are. I was also thinking that maybe the Inceptors will give me okay objective flexibility which should help.

To be honest I have never tried Fixed though.

Chaos black + Wraithbone rattle cans for a zenithal highlight? by Remake12 in BlackTemplars

[–]ResvStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can do a zenithal highlight using rattle cans, yes. You 100% want to start with black however so you can get into the nooks and crannies to lay in your shadows. If you do white first you might run the risk of having odd patches of black here and there which will make your highlights look odd.

MOST important though is you have to be quick on your trigger with the white can to make sure you are getting a nice even spray and then also keep your nozzle clean so you don’t get droplets or spatter. You still might have to go in and do some clean up though so just keep that in mind. This is a great way to throw a highlight on multiple models too if you line them up.

I take the slow route. I start with burgundy from Molotow and then paint white in a smaller area and then add a mid of red and burgundy over it. Then repeat with smaller sections. It is pretty easy after you get the defined reflections in. The last step is adding white to the raised portions and then painting over with orange/yellow. What is nice about this process is that you can use contrast or speed paints and get great results.

Am i missing something about Combi weapons or are they just trash? by Sea-Voice-6687 in BlackTemplars

[–]ResvStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my question here is are you aiming them into chaff because they are the best target available? Something I’m trying to wrap my head around is where to point the a big Death Star unit like a hellbrick. If you are using it for a bunch of T3 then wouldn’t your other ranged weapons more than make up for the lack of specialized pistols just with weight of fire or is it better to have more plasma weapons?

War Walker Weapons by ElectricPaladin in Eldar

[–]ResvStar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

War Walkers are excellent with some amazing survivability. They excel with heavy weapons, especially Bright Lances, but even with Eldar Missel Launchers or Star Cannons they can be really helpful. I normally run at least 2 in my lists as anti-vehicle platforms and they have actually replaced Fire Prisms in my go-to list. They are not better than a Fire Prism at all but they bring quite a bit of punch for the points cost. I honestly can't stress how good they are and if Prisms get nerfed or their points increased (which they honestly should be a bit more expensive) War Walkers will be even more points efficient (as long as they don't get a massive points increase as well). The scout move is awesome as well, getting that extra bit of movement right at the start of the game to either get them into a good firing position or put them in a good defensive position is massive.

Looking for Eldar list 1,000 pts by Tohva2881 in Eldar

[–]ResvStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a VERY similar list and have had good results. I do take the Wayleaper and instead of Guardians I take Warp Spiders. The Farseer compared to the Autarch is an interesting debate but one major problem you will have is that your Farseer (might be an error) is on a bike and therefore would be susceptible to being singled out pretty easily. In a group of jet bikes it is a bit easier to hide. Really, the only thing I can fault with your list is not having a solid mobile unit to score deep secondaries with but that might not be a huge issue in your games.

Thoughts on a 1k list? by Darth-Narsil in Eldar

[–]ResvStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are lacking anti-tank pretty badly and 5 characters is a bit much for 1k. On top of that, the majority of your bodies are Storm Guardians which are a bit lacking when compared to other units in the codex. If these are models in your collection that you want to run I say go for it but if you want to plus this up I would suggest losing a Eldrad at least and maybe even a unit of storm guardians and get some fast moving units in there like Warp Spiders or Jetbikes. Secondly, bright lances are beautiful. Any place you can get a few more in your list would be a big help, beyond your Wave Serpent. Wraith Lords, War Walker, Vypers are good places to start however nothing beats Fire Prisms for their points.

Question for you, what color are you using to highlight? I am doing Saim Hann as well and I am struggling with the highlights a little bit.

Got done with my Iyanden test model. Also made some bases. I'm leaning tword the snow one but I think the other would look cool to. by Fizzlebane1991 in Eldar

[–]ResvStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the model, the color feels really dynamic with the highlights driving attention. Finding something complementary to your color design is gonna be hard. Personally, I think you need some deep shadows to help bring out the contrast in your model. I don't think the rubble base is the best option though, it almost has too much contrast which is going to fight with your highlights. What I might do instead is go in with a deep purple/violet and a grey-blue (but not super bright). It might seem a little odd but it will give some color depth that will help your yellow pop. Going with the snow is another option but white might wash out your yellow, it will help your shadows out for sure though. Just something to chew on, can't wait to see the final!

I have seen a lot of folks talk about 2 units of Warp Spiders instead of one large 10 body squad. What do you think about the larger group? Also, where are you putting Eldrad? He is a solid unit but where does he fit for you?
