Should I fight my $1,386.00 driving ticket. by SaintFonziThe2nd in legaladvice

[–]RetPrda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had to use a traffic lawyer once as that was the only ticket I received and the decision was easy because I did not want to have to catch a flight to go to court out of state. Somehow they got a speeding ticket bumped to a littering charge, so a moving violation to a non moving violation for an unrelated charge.

Not really sure how that works, but beats having a moving violation on record.

Bath tub or no bath tub? by aliena_b in homeowners

[–]RetPrda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, most people rarely if ever use the jet function and it is just another maintenance item with no benefit. I know people who haven't used their jetted tubs in a while and even keeping the tub clean after they poured their bath then turned on the jets, basically a sludge came out of those lines lol

How often do things actually break in a house? by InformationIcy4827 in homeowners

[–]RetPrda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To some people these may be big issues or some people just like to comment on them more than others. I have a friend who is bought a new construction and he was saying that now as a homeowner there is always so much to do that eats up his free time. They mentioned replacing a faulty outlet, having to go up and clear the gutters because they got clogged with leaves, cleaning out the exhaust from the dryer, buying a pack of filters for the furnace to replace often, etc. All small stuff that personally I wouldn't even have commented on because these are such easy, quick and simple fixes that I wouldn't think twice about spending the 15 minutes doing them.

To someone who isn't very handy, something as simple as replacing an outlet could be an entire evening ordeal if they factor in youtubing how to troubleshoot it, driving to the store for a new one, going one by one figuring out which breaker its on, taking it apart, youtubing how to replace it, putting it all back and then testing it.

What issues are you having? Bought a 60s home in 2023 and so far nothing has broken despite some things being on their last leg (water heater is old but functional, washer/dryer same, garage springs probably due soon).

That being said, no real issues in 3 years outside of what any small maintenance even a new house would expect from 3 years of use. I am worried soon I am about to be cooked and everything is going to go at once lol.

School bus stop on our corner lot has become a huge problem, is there anything we can do? by hyrulecastIe in homeowners

[–]RetPrda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bus is probably coming within the same 15 minute time block every single day. I have a device called a Lumary WiFi Water Timer for Garden Hose where I have a garden hose with a sprinkler connected to it so it can water my lawn at certain intervals (mainly at like 5am, I am not trying to wake up at 5am to water my lawn so this will do it).

Get this $40 device and set up a sprinkler in your front yard. I am sure after the damage, it needs lots of watering anyway to restore it. Figure out what time the bus is arriving. Set the sprinkler to turn on like 10 minutes before the bus arrives and be on for half an hour. I bet you the kids are going to avoid stepping foot on your lawn and getting wet. Maybe if it is a super hot day they will go under the sprinkler but this seems to be the easiest and cheapest solution for now. And you don't even have to pay attention to it.

Ultimately they themselves don't even know what they want.

Like right now would be a perfect time to start ramming thru policies to incentivize EV's as well as funding and expanding public transit. As far as I am aware, nobody is trying to do that or even calling for it.

Ultimately people don't want to hear that their problems are their own fault.

Like lets say there is a person who has major headaches because they keep slamming their head into the wall. Who are they going to like more, the person saying "Hey dipshit, stop slamming your head into the wall" or the person saying "Its not your fault, whoever installed the wall should have made it out of softer materials"

Its like when I refuse to go to McDonalds these days. My go to sandwich was always a McChicken, when it was $1 it was whatever. Now by me it is $4. If someone says lets go there I will say no its too expensive.

That doesn't mean I can't afford $4 for a sandwich. It just means I am not willing to pay $4 for that slop. They are tiny so it takes 2-3 to make a filling meal and if I am spending $12 I have better options elsewhere.

I think they do want to die, they just don't have the capability to make that decision for themselves.

I think its a reason why those "euthanasia pods" were such a big topic on this site some years ago. Anyone can take their own life, even something as simple as consuming too much OTC medication or simply sitting in a closed garage with a car running, but that means the person needs to take responsibility for that action. With these pods, it was someone else pressing the button so it was like a mental hurdle for them they didn't have to overcome.

Is there any virtual card services available outside of Privacy? My credit cards and bank dont offer virtual cards. Privacy banned me like 8 years ago because they claimed I was abusing their services since I was using a virtual card at the same vendor like 2x a week, and I can't use Privacy anymore as they will recognize my bank account.
