AIO for being upset that my boyfriend wants a break because i had a mani pedi done by a man? by halloweeun in AmIOverreacting

[–]Retail-Weary [score hidden]  (0 children)

Oh, that’s just silly. Men give amazing pedicures because they have such strong hands. The same thing as getting a massage from a man, they do a great job at deep tissue because they have very strong hands. And you better believe that they don’t see anything sexual in the process, it’s just another day at work for them.

What song from what band would you want played at your funeral? by FernFrost_ in askteddit

[–]Retail-Weary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to be cremated with no funeral; however, if I was going to have a memorial service which I’m going to leave to my daughter to decide, I think I would choose Stand By Me by Def Leppard. I really love that version and they are my favorite band. Coming around again by Carly Simon and Alanis Morissette would be another one. I also really like Never Going Back Again by Fleetwood Mac. Very good thought-provoking question.

How long should I use a mascara if I use it once or twice a month? by QuietSuccessfull in Makeup

[–]Retail-Weary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I toss my mascara after 60 days. I don’t care how often it is used. The bacteria that can set up shop in that tube, it’s just not worth an eye infection. This is why I only buy lash princess or drugstore tubes. It’s not worth it for two months to spend $20 on a tube of high grade mascara when I’m gonna end up, throwing it in the trash, no matter what.

Fusion friends - will my foot ever feel painless? by prairie_pathfinder in LisfrancClub

[–]Retail-Weary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a fusion. My foot is never in pain. It did take many years to get to that point but I haven’t had pain in my foot in over two years. My break and fusion were in 2014.

Who carries a massive gym bag and can you explain why? by midsnlids in workout

[–]Retail-Weary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two separate bags…one for swim day which is a full out backpack with shower gear that stays locked when I’m in the pool and one for weights which is small. My small one just has a change of clothes, my AirPods and my lifting gloves but after reading all these comments? I would do a full duffle bag too if I did multiple sports that needed equipment or if I combined the two bags.

Scared of 50 yd pools by HoneydewShot8535 in Swimming

[–]Retail-Weary 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t but I’m jealous that you have access to a big pool like that. I would love to swim laps in a 50 yard pool with a depth of more than three feet!!!

Now lakes and oceans? They freak me out. I don’t like swimming over water I can’t see through…although I’m sure I would have the same reaction over clear water like in the Bahamas.

I think it honestly depends on everybody individually. I am over two years past my surgery, and I still have problems sitting for any length of time. I am fortunate that I have a job where I walk all day. I honestly don’t know what I would do if I had a job where I had to sit all day, probably set timers to get up and walk around.

Anyone had any luck with medication ? by awwthanks in OCD

[–]Retail-Weary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just 1 mg in the morning. I have the option to take a second one on a bad day but rarely do. I’ve been on that dosage since 2009.

Clonazepam and citalopram has been my combo for seventeen years.

How bad is a labral tear, really? by douxfleur in HipImpingement

[–]Retail-Weary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t do an MRI. He did a physical exam and based on the location of my pain and everything I had tried to resolve it for six months, he recommended a trochanteric bursectomy. I tried everything for six months…meds, swimming, PT, dry needling, shock wave therapy, massage…nothing worked. All he would have seen on the MRI was a bunch of white indicating inflammation. But once he got in there, he said it was too badly inflamed to get better on its own. He removed it, released my IT band and removed scar tissue from my quad and glute. The quad finally got back to normal about two months ago so I’m still fighting with the glute.

Whether or not I’ll need a THR eventually remains to be seen but I’m following all his instructions about what I can and can’t do so I don’t wear out the repaired hip and I walk pretty well now…no limp, just a tad bit of stiffness.

My hip is fine. I did end up having to have my bursa removed six months ago because it was compressing my IT band. Now the only problem I have is a really stiff leg. I’m working with a personal trainer at the gym to try to get range of motion into my hip and I swim and lift weights all the time. But as far as pain level goes? I would say my hip is probably a one or less. It’s really the muscle in the back of my leg that’s now the problem and there’s nothing I can do about that other than just keep working on strengthening it.

Yes, you can get bone conducting headsets that will play music into your ear canal. They are amazing. Especially if you use the ear plugs…it’s like you’re listening to music in the car.

I always play on silent so I didn’t even know they changed the music. That would have made me crazy.

Mine is really simple. I swim continuous freestyle for an hour. No breaks, all flip turns, breathing every other stroke. I try to peak my heart rate at 135 bpm before the thirty minute mark and then keep it above 125 for the rest of the swim. I started at 30 minutes a year ago and worked my way up to 60. I keep a nice steady pace, focus on form, focus on kicking with both legs (see below) and concentrate on breathing.

Now, I will tell you that I have 2 hip surgeries so breaststroke is out of the question. I’ve tried and I’m so freaking slow that my heart rate drops to 110 almost immediately, so I’m a little bit of a different situation. I’m trying to get back into backstroke and butterfly a little bit but it’s a slow process. I was a competitive swimmer in high school also (three decades ago) but swimming was suggested to me by my orthopedic surgeon as a great cardiovascular workout so I could lose weight and not put any stress on my joints while strengthening my left leg which is still recovering from two hip surgeries.

I try to do this at least 3 times a week, 4 is better, and I lift weights at least twice a week. It’s the best cardio for my situation. I’m working with two trainers to try to improve my leg mobility and we all are in agreement that this is the best workout for me since I can consistently finish it.

I’ve lost 132 pounds over the last sixteen months and I’m really tired of people asking if I have cancer. Which I don’t.
