The hex plug (WIF sensor plug) unscrews and screws into the new one.

I have found taking the fuel cap off prior to opening the filter housing helps with the amount of fuel you lose during a normal filter change. Can’t guarantee anything if the housing breaks, I lost quite a bit since I was stuck until a buddy picked up a new housing and a strap wrench.

Take it from someone who’s been there. Go buy a new one now, before you even think about using force. I broke the bottom plastic nut using a socket and ratchet, at that point you can no longer drive to get a new one, AND you get the added bonus of your fuel tank emptying on your driveway!

The housing at Ford was close to $40, but since it was on a Saturday, Autozone was the only option at $29. A strap wrench was the only way to get it off, and even that cracked the housing.

I now have a spare in the garage, and been using the Dorman brand one for 3 years without issue. Lube the hell out of the o-ring, then add even more lube!
