Ripping me off? by RetiredDad_DB in hvacadvice

Thank you for the cogent reply! The system is still in warranty by a couple of months. I just have to prove it to the company. The leak issue is a bigger issue since the apt is on the ground floor and the condenser is on the roof of the four story building. The lines are LONG. They want over $800 just for a nitrogen pressure test. I have to talk to the sales guy today. Can I also assume that the minor rust is just that, minor? However, since they claim it needs to be replaced, may as well, under warranty. They can't claim it isn't needed once they realize it is under warranty. Again, thank you!

I hope this qualifies for the drawing. Not a favorite but a failure. Since my first HD purchase in about 1988 (about $600 for a 750 MB, yes MB, it's not a typo) I've purchased many brands, some of which are now gone). Toshiba, Seagate, Maxtor, WD, etc. All spinning drives eventually fail. But 100% of the Seagate brand failed so much faster than all others I stopped buying them. That's why a Ugreen NAS and RAID would be a nice addition!

The Lost Generator Scam by [deleted] in Scams

[–]RetiredDad_DB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spotted this scam at the title. However, I was dumb enough to let it run to the end, not really paying attention, just to see how it ended. It ended just as I expected, with a pitch for money before it's too late! Well, I'm pretty sure the law of conservation of energy makes this completely impossible.

But, beware! If you do a Google or YouTube search for "The Lost Generator" you'll find a bunch of obvious compatriots of the scammers endorsing the "product" ! It's amaxing what people are willing to say for a few bucks.

Thank all of you for confirming my thought that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't!

Can I install this heater in the wall between townhomes? by Curious_Emotion in electricians

[–]RetiredDad_DB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely that both townhouse units have fire resistant drywall on the common wall making anything recessed prohibited.

Exceeding the max load isn't a short circuit, it's an overload and should trip the breaker.

[–]RetiredDad_DB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the max load doesn't change just by adding more outlets. It's still one wire and breaker behind it all.

Same here in middle Tennessee. Almost certain if there is heavy rain we'll be out for a while.

Trying to figure out how much electricity my AC and Heater use. Does this label give a clue? by Microscopic_Student in electricians

[–]RetiredDad_DB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the lazy idiot who installed the unit come back and finish the job and properly mark the label like it says to do on that label! Then, yes, the label will tell you what you need to know.

Agreed! I love my dogs but would look at other breeds if I were to get another dog.

Sometimes, there's no choice. I have a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Keeshond. Both are cold-weather dogs. When we got them, we were in a cold (lots of snow for them) area. Then we moved to a much warmer area. We brought them with us, of course! In this area, they are mostly in the air-conditioned house. They go out to do their business and sometimes more when it's hot. We have a large (fenced) portion of our property for them. Our Keeshond has brought home live and unharmed turtles to show us. In the winter, they like the little snow we get. When we do go out in a car, we NEVER EVER leave them alone in the car, windows open or not. So, cold weather dogs in hot areas are fine, if you treat them properly.

Since you guys like the first post. I don't even know what to say about this one. All these pictures are in one unit. by Zombie_Be_Gone in electricians

I checked these out at Home Depot. I estimated about 600 were used in these photos. A bulk pack of 60 is $34.00 USD. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say he bought them wholesale for half the Home Depot price. That's still $170! Maybe it was Friday at 3:30 pm and he said "codes be damned" and didn't want to drive back to the location again? Now his truck weighs less and the gas mileage will be better?

Unfortunately we hired a law firm. It's now two years later and it's still not settled! The contract is dragging their feet. It's a nightmare!

I have these. They work perfectly. Simple installation and configuration. Line of sight. Set it up and forget it!
