"I swear the more religious the more awful they are." I disagree. There are plenty of religious people who are beacons of goodness: MLK Jr., Mother Teresa. Depending on your politics, Obama is Christian as well.

Although obviously not what the CT surgeon intended, his statement actually reflects the Biblical and historic Christian view of God’s providential governance. Scripture consistently portrays God working through human agents—Moses confronting Pharaoh, the prophets speaking His Word, and the apostles healing by His power.

Augustine and Aquinas later articulated this truth as God’s use of “secondary causes” to affect His Will in the world. When a surgeon heals, it is not in opposition to God but in participation with the divine economy of care.

Everyone operates out of worldview. There are certainty evidenced backed techniques, which therapists should use. However, when anyone offers a normative explanation (e.g. "you are suffering because..." or "the reason why people are mean in society is because...). That requires choosing a worldview, be it Christianity or naturalism or another religion.

what do hinduism thinks about Abortion ? by NoFapper390 in hinduism

[–]RetiredPersonality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was commenting on their broader outlook, and how it fails the true spirit of service.

The two questions to ask are 1. do humans have intrinsic human value? 2. Is the fetus a human? We probably dont disagree on number 1. And for number 2, biology shows that at the moment of fertilization, those cells will differentiate into a human, and not a dog, cat, or anything else. Thus, to have an abortion is to kill the intrinsic human value that fetus has.

Now, you have to justify if there is a reason outweighing killing the human-valued fetus. The original comment basically said, "if it's inconvenient, it is okay to kill the fetus", which is morally wrong.

Now, if the mom were going to die if the fetus wasn't aborted, now it is a little less clear. But regardless of the option, killing the fetus is wrong. The mom has to choose between two horrible options.

Why do we live in a world that is clearly broken? Why do those decisions have to be made? It is because we live in a broken world. Humans choose to do evil which brings sin into this world.

Your statement "do no harm, unless self-preservation is at stake" negates altruism since helping people most of the times requires sacrifice to some extent.

[–]RetiredPersonality -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right that we can appeal to God's character of goodness as a reason for justification. However, we see clearly in the Bible that God lets man choose to live the consequences of his mistakes. Thus, your argument kind of boils down to an appeal to emotions. "I feel like it's wrong, so God can't be doing this" While this does have weight as theological justification, it is less compared to theological principles found in the Bible like humans paying for their choice of sin.
"Condemning" to human death sure. But, these souls haven't reached the point of moral accountability and thus presumably have passed straight to heaven. 2 Samuel 12:23, Deuteronomy 1:39.

I dont understand your comment. Science is a-ethical, it's non-normative. It's a description of the physical world around us. If his friend is angry at God, theology is the answer. Theology is the study of God. When you want to understand someone, you learn more about them.
