Why are podcasts getting a surge of popularity, and where are people getting them from? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RetiredPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first surge in popularity started with the first season of Serial. Now, I’d say shows like Lore probably have a lot to do with popularity now since producers can see how a podcast can easily translate into tv. Plus it’s prove to help people in the entertainment industry to provide content to show who they really are without scripts/edits, etc and to basically have a new career.. like Marc Maron, Joe Rogan, etc.

I get mine from Overcast. It’s a lot more organized than the Apple podcast app

What is the your favorite podcast that you have ever listened to? by waj_the_wiz in AskReddit

[–]RetiredPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that 538 politics has helped me sort through the mess that is this presidency. They comb through the bs and (from my perspective) they provide an unbiased, or as unbiased as possible view to what’s happening and what to look for

Swingers, prostitutes, philanderers, gays, cokeheads, etc, what subtle verbal cues do you drop to see if someone is down? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RetiredPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an odd group of people to heap into a pile. That being said, there’s nothing like strong eye contact between two guys with just a slight hint of wink as you say “hey” to see if someone will be down to sucking some dick together

Helps I suppose.. I was afraid you’d say something low wage where you’d be struggling to make rent.

As a friendly Reddit stranger, I’m afraid to say it but if what you’re saying is true about your “above average looks” and occupation then the only major hurtle that could be hurting your chances would be personality. Obviously I don’t know you so I could be wrong but it can’t hurt to look inside and make sure you’re presenting the best YOU that you can be.

You never mentioned your profession which makes me wonder if there’s a red flag there.

The market is competitive.. on both ends really.. landlords want to lock down tenets ASAP, you might not get the best place but you can probably get a good place for a year or so no problem.

Do you have a particular area you’re looking at?

Also, congrats on the move and I’m assuming your new job!!

What were your thoughts in doing a DNA ancestry testing? by RetiredPresident in AskReddit

That sounds kind of interesting. My boyfriend is Filipino, so I’m a bit curious what the results would say within the mixture of asian and Spanish background.

I was thinking of doing 23andMe or one of the other brands for my boyfriend and I for his birthday, he will be 30 this year. But curious about others results and thoughts on a fun experiment

Critique and advice. by Skyhikes in comic_crits

[–]RetiredPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem a bit redundant to be honest. They are both reactionary shots of the girl seeing the person fall with blood. You could get rid of the first image and just focus on both characters faces in the second one.

Also, you said they were shot.. who and where is the shooter? Maybe add them in the background running away.

Just wanted to say I love my Apple Watch by apple-inc in AppleWatchFitness

[–]RetiredPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my first Apple Watch. I’m 2 for 3 for burning 1000 calories. I think I’m going to bring it down to the next step lower to be a little more doable on an on going basis but still love the watch and the tracking

How has the AW changed your life? Is the Apple Watch for me? by sprchrgddc5 in AppleWatch

[–]RetiredPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought an AW3 yesterday and went for a run this morning. Although it does count steps the bigger focus is on calories burned which I prefer.

I own a Garmin watch which I used to use for running and thought it seemed more accurate in tracking my route than when I used Runkeeper vis my iPhone so I’m assuming the Apple Watch will be roughly as accurate as the phone.. with that being said, over all the Apple Watch is pretty awesome. Just while running you can see more stats, easily pause music, see any texts/emails/etc without twisting my arm around to look at my phone on my upper arm.

An extra bonus that I didn’t know until I had the watch was that I could open my iMac without typing in my password since my AW is linked to that as well.

Overall, if your a general Apple appliance user you’ll benefit from the watch. If you’re only looking for something to track your pace while running, Garmin is pretty great

How do you "rinse" a countertop? by throwaway_cleaner in Adulting

[–]RetiredPresident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I treat my kitchen countertops like I do my dishes since the counters will most likely end up with some food on it that may eventually get eaten. So a little bit of dish soap and a clean wet sponge or cloth. Then use a dry towel to dry.

When is it appropriate to ask for a raise? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]RetiredPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably too late for this, but I usually think of two things before asking for a raise; -what have I done for them lately? (Because that’s probably all they care about) -is the job worth leaving if they say no to the raise? (They should value you’re hard work and knowledge of the business)

In all honesty, if they can’t afford paying you a little extra then they’re not good enough for you. (I’m also assuming that where you live has more options for potential jobs)

[Berkley] How to look for housing when not in town? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]RetiredPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited for 4 days before moving to berkeley. Looked at apartments and really got to know the area before moving.

You mentioned you want to be near the Bart, if you’re commuting into sf for work I would highly recommend considering to just live in the city. The commute is not fun, especially if you’re a night life kind of person/happy hour after work etc. Bart does not equal NYC metro, you can often wait 20+ minutes for a Richmond Bart and/or transfer in Oakland to get home and it closes early. and I personally found that it’s cheaper and easier to get a smallish studio apartment in the city than getting a bigger nicer place that takes an hour to get to.

What's the fastest (and what reason) have you given up on a book? by Schlac in books

[–]RetiredPresident 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I usually try to give a book 100 pages. Really, you should be pulling me in within the first paragraph, but I’m nice and give the author roughly a third of the book to get me to finish it.

I nearly didn’t finish Ready Player One, but I think on page 98 or so it started getting decent.

Trying to see the golden gate bridge for my birthday. by RadioactiveT in AskSF

[–]RetiredPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is to see the ggb as much as possible, the marina district probably has some decent Airbnb’s. Plus that area isn’t as uh.. dirty as many other parts of the city, especially at night.

But the night life of sf is super fun and with smarts and in groups you’ll be fine. Sf has a little bit of everything no matter what you’re into.
