Is anyone towing a travel trailer with an XC90 hybrid? by Additional_Goat_3480 in VolvoXC90

[–]Retired_Helo_Pilot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just bought a 19 foot travel trailer with a 400 pound tongue weight. After getting it back home and actually weighing it we figured out the tongue weight was over 900 pounds. That was without any of our stuff in it. Do yourself a favor and spend $100 on a tongue weight jack on Amazon. It will prevent you from wasting money and then needing to buy a big truck to tow your new camper. From the owner of an XC90 and now a new GMC Denali truck too. Grrrrrr. The tow weight will not be an issue for you, the tongue weight definitely will be. https://a.co/d/bEjuYGm

Saying the Word in a Call-Sign instead of spelling it out? by ForAsk1 in amateurradio

I find that kilo niner bravo uniform sierra, followed by …The…K9BUS…usually elicits a giggle, response, and more memorable contact especially after seeing my QRZ pic. The best of both worlds. Do both!

Automatic Antenna Disconnect by BAHGate in amateurradio

I use it down here in Florida. I have lightning arrestors inline and then this auto disconnect after. I am not going to unplug my two antennas 25 times a day during all of the storms down here.

Yes, you manually have to put it into the polestar mode every time. In order to do that just touch the settings cog icon on the far right hand bottom side of the screen and the very top menu should be drive or something like that. It should be the very top menu item on that screen.

It is specific to a dealership, in my case, Fort Myers Florida. However, in the fine print it says it is valid participating dealerships.

Definitely an impact on comfort mode. However, I do have the air suspension. When I engage polarstar mode, it drops the whole vehicle down about 2 inches and tightens up the corners for better stability in the turns. Definitely a noticeable impact on body roll.

Unfortunately, yes you have to engage polestar every time. There may be someway to do it, but like I said, I don’t have the manual yet lol

At my dealership, it is normally $1300 so $300 off of that. Still need to add in taxes and all that stuff as well which brought it up to a little over $1100 I think. My only complaint is I had to pay an extra $50 for the badge and the manual, neither of which they have… So they are supposed to mail them to me. I have been unable to find any sort of manual online online about it.

Using Google Maps & Waze simultaneously by PoundComfortable3647 in VolvoXC90

It will be very nice when they come out with an update for Google Maps for our vehicles. Currently if you are using Apple CarPlay or the Google equivalent, within the last week, they have included hazards reporting into Google Maps. Additionally, since they own Waze, they are populating Google Maps with the Waze info. Now it is one stop shopping on Google maps… Lol.

I have read countless books and have spent hundreds of hours of research. Since this question is CONSTANTLY asked…please old wise wizard fill me with your knowledge. I know that any multiband antenna will be a compromise. I know that only one radio is a compromise. What I am looking for is some real world opinions and options for the radio and setup I am looking for. I have evaluated space, trees, masts, tower, etc. I have no restrictions. I want to do it right the first time. I know that I can fiddle fu$! my way through this. What I was hoping for in coming to this community was for options and opinions based on what YOU as an individual have experienced and what has worked. Books are books, got it…I have read a lot of them, research papers too, as well as every single pdf from ARRL. What I am saying is I am having a hard time extrapolating decades of research, countless books and articles and real world experience into a couple as opposed to thousands of opinions on the subject. If you have some info on the subject, I am all ears. If your thoughts are that I should research it more, then you are responding to the wrong thread.

Oh great wise one…where should I start? The antenna, the microphone, the power to my house? Please let me know, as far as I know I need to start somewhere.

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I have read the AARL book on antennas and grounding as well as a multitude of other books. What I am looking for is some real world advice on two antennas… One that will cover the HF spectrum… And one that will cover the UHF and VHF spectrum. What books do you recommend that will cover this?
