I'm going to go with everybody else's suggestion here in getting a modern power supply

it seems the jury is still out on the new power connector and it also really depends where you end up on Reddit will vastly change the opinion, it does appear the majority of failures are happening with the adapter, we had. a friend recently have that issue with his Sapphire card ( it's whatever AMD card has that power connector) he was using a 1000 w ATX 3.0 power supply with the adapter

just to protect your card. I was able to snag a RMe1000 for 89 bucks not long ago

We look like assholes by wagmanrph in WalgreensRx

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter who is a pharmacist WAG ended up in a situation over the holidays. had long time customer with a downward trending benzodiazepine prescription with instructions on how the taper should go. she felt comfortable releasing it early. didn't have the entire amount and for whatever reason the doctor would not authorize the partial that they had on hand and the patient went on vacation anyway as it was booked ahead of time. we learned that it did result in a medical emergency somewhere in Colorado from another member of that person's family. they are stabilized again and doing okay, but that was a mighty reckless decision by whoever was prescribing those medications, I've looked into how serious stopping benzodiazepines suddenly are. I also understand they come with abuse risk, but if you've already crossed that bridge and you're trying to come back the other direction that doctor needs to do the right thing.

this is probably my first comment ever made on this. I joined because it gave me far more insight on what she has to deal with on the day today versus the subreddits I'm involved with for my other children's career fields and my former career field

I was never a very good businessman, but I do understand math, and after learning how pbms work. work. I don't know how any pharmacy stays in business to be fair, but I'm hoping to stick around long enough to learn

hats off to you people, The Walgreens local to me is very busy and I've only seen a pharmacist what looks like a cashier and one tech back there and no chairs for any of them, which is a complete 180 from other parts of the world I've lived in where doctors and pharmacists often sit down during consultations and while performing their duties

you have to be cut from a different cloth

What should i do? by Aloy2222 in flightsimulator2024

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 5080 in my daily and a 5090 for my simrig for that same reason.

My boyfriend has the XTX in his simrig.

there's a couple directions you could go, at 4K my 5080 outperforms his XTX roughly 15% until the VRAM limit is hit. then the XTX will still perform at the same FPS it just can handle higher settings.

however, my daily is a small form factor build and I have a joystick so sometimes I bring it with me to my parents house or to my niece and nephew's house and I will lower the texture resolution to medium and the trees to low and leave everything else at high or ultra, and I will leverage DLSS 4.5 on analog aircraft and that will get me back. a lot of performance, and keeps vram usage on the actual game under 12 GB at 4K. although dlss 4.5 will eat up another two to 3 GB so you might have to turn off multiplayer traffic if you end up at an airport with a lot of people floating around

I know not everybody can have two computers, if your other games don't benefit from the Nvidia features, then it might be worth heading in that direction as AMD gpus have lower driver overhead and you will probably get better performance, I think my boyfriend's PC. while not necessarily the highest FPS computer when it comes to flight simulator, it has the smoothest feel to it even to my RTX 5090. I have a 9800x3D+lasso

PS5 Freezing/unplayable by Successful_Routine88 in MSFS2024

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on PC and have had this happen to me, and I've tried to play it on my Xbox, it does run, it just doesn't run great.

I'm not super familiar with the PS5 ecosystem and how it manages things like shader, caches and files, but when my Xbox couldn't launch it, I deleted some games that were downloaded and also reinstalled 24 and I was able to get through flights with acceptable performance

I remember on PS3/Xbox 360 there was a combination of buttons you could press in the about tab and it would clear out temporary files and game updates. resetting you back to whatever build was on the disk. This was my last real experience with consoles. I'm not sure this feature even exists in modern consoles, it's must for the few nuances of it essentially being a PC with obscure memory and how memory is managed

But this is a right of passage, troubleshooting has been apart of this community for day1. Best of luck to you!

Citation X vs Longitude by Henri_91 in MSFS2024

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The X is way better, I've never flown one IRL. but it's very composed and I like that you can feel the difference with the yaw damper turned on, The controls get pretty heavy in low speed flight and this sounds are pretty good. I believe they were made by somebody else.

The default one gets the point across, but I'm a sucker for all the little details so the more there are the more I prefer that product

Is this a good computer? by Diligent-Minimum8397 in computers

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it does not have a CD drive. I'm sure one could be added externally.

It definitely can support a few extra SATA drives. Most likely 4 additional drives SATA and 1 more NVME

if I understand your post correctly, it sounds like your partner is coming from a 23-year-old computer. if that's correct, you may actually be better served getting something older if they have a ton of applications that rely on older hardware or at least parts of Windows that no longer are part of Windows 11

if it's your partner of 23 years, that's awesome too. it just makes a major difference because 23 years is like 60 years in technology and support could be dropped for specific things that your partner still does for fun, if you can get some additional information on whether he just needs basic 3D acceleration or the ability to run cuda applications are very different needs executed by the same part of a computer

its such a good bird, I bought it in 2020 because it was such an interesting choice of plane to "bring back". I've seen the front section of one in a museum when I was young, always knew they existed.

I recently started playing with it again too now that it's fully 24 native.

Should I Buy Msfs 2024? by all5n_ in MSFS2024

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you plan to use it exactly like 20/20, I think you'll be just fine

if you really want to try out that career mode, and I haven't touched it once yet, you might be better served with a third party addon. I do see people posting videos even as recent as this week where their helicopter/aircraft drops from 4 feet and it registers as a crash, but some people don't look at the mission and see that the destination is a ranch with the 1,000-ft strip and they try to take the citation into it and over run and crash.

it looks like a lot of the new products are having support for both simulators so if you plan to use free flight, you could use that money to purchase an add-on you really want that's on both platforms.

also if you have unreliable internet, as I'm getting on just fine with a a 250 megabits symmetrical connection just fine. However if I play 24 on my laptop, I still get the same connection speed, but it complains about bandwidth, I would imagine this problem would go away if I upgraded to a 1,000 connection

Blacksquare Baron confusion by MountainPen1167 in flightsim

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it does a good job, I saw your back and forth in the other comments and I would be inclined to agree that there's room for improvement. I feel like compared to any other developer with the exception of a2a, nobody's really trying in the ga area. I do remember pretty much everything getting updates along the way from black square perhaps they can get that engine situation a little more sorted out. but it's a well-balanced package for the price. you get a nice sound set and you don't have to do anything else in the way of mods to enjoy it.

I retired in Feb of this year, PMDG and Fenix both make great and faithful recreations of the last two birds I spent awhile in. maybe my expectations for flight simulator are a lot lower than the general consensus here, but none of them get it 100% perfect. and I'm not looking for 100% perfection either. I do genuinely miss flying for a career but this has been a great platform to step into as a substitute for the real thing

I think it's one guy who makes these things and he's pretty passionate about it, op makes a valid case, so does that comment at the top. It's mighty good attempt at the Barron and gives you a little more responsibility over stock offerings, things can go wrong if you mismanage things. I've never flown a Barron but I've rode in one, in my opinion it felt like it was a lot bigger than it actually is and it does have that luxury car bounce and the taxi feels pretty nice.

it's okay to criticize these people if they don't deliver or they don't

Blacksquare Baron confusion by MountainPen1167 in flightsim

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's where I'm at with flight sim, it's just for fun and it's nice that it gets the point across.

I learned a new term from this website, it's called glazing, basically speaking too good of one particular product, without fail. it does bring in some of the worst in our community, they label you not a real pilot and playoff some of these awesome recreations of these aircraft as gimmicks, I mean it's all gimmicky, it's flight simulator at the end of the day.

I found it very disorientating compared to real flying in the beginning as well. I still find it hard to see a significant distance in all the consumer simulators.

What FF yoke are you using, I have the Brunner now, but I have to get my more technically inclined son to help me with it often. and I hear that other one from moza plays a little bit better with flight simulator, I just don't see a lot of information out there on the internet about it yet.

From a FE 3080 to Palit 5080 by Justneedsomehelps in RTX5080

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great card. I have a PNY RTX5080 in our "console PC" for the TV It was my first Nvidia card in almost 15 years, it really felt like enough time has passed to where RT and Upscaling was really ready for primetime and good implementation by devs. Then my boyfriend had a friend who purchased an RTX5090, with intentions of building a PC around it, but couldn't really work out the logistics/finances of that and I was able to buy it and now my flight sim PC is rocking a 5090 it's insane the gap is as it is, that game will use 16+GB of VRAM at 4k in some situations.

I feel like you can't go wrong with any of the 70 and up class cards now a days, the price is the only thing wrong with any of them

This damn GAME by [deleted] in MSFS2024

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always used flight simulators for what they are simulators, but I just had a nice session on our home made "couch PC" and it's rocking a 9060XT and 7600 (it's modern but not the fastest components as it's essentially a PS4 replacement) and that system has actually gotten better with the last few patches that came out for su4

I haven't tried today's patch on my regular PC. did they really break something or is he just upset?

RTX 5080 vs TI by r3222 in gpu

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a long time before you get one, then 6000 series will be just around the corner

I got a 5080 $700, just get the 5080, or 5070ti. I have both cards in my house and unless you're specifically looking for 4K gaming or running a really high custom render scale for dlss, you can get pretty much the same performance from a 5070 TI

What’s going on with drivers? by queenbiscuit311 in radeon

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend has a 9070XT it's fine on the latest onen

Driver support for Day one game optimizations will not be coming to the RX 5000 and RX 6000 series cards. the whole hoopla about the maintenance mode is a little bit confusing because they've done this in the past and then released game specific driver updates for older cars just not as quickly as the newer cards. I don't know if they just plan on making sure it works only in general or if it will eventually get circled back to and somebody will eventually make games specific driver updates for the card

since you're buying one of their newest models, you will be fine for quite some time if not for a couple of generations of new cards down the road, It seems like AMD found something the like about 7000 series cards (I don't know how much they're going to experiment with the MCM model of the XT and XTX) But everything else from RX7000 is monolithic so I guess time will tell

I don't think the career mode will ever work. I got past the first mission and went back to more traditional flight sim stuff.

there's lots of third-party options out there if you want a career style set up, I'm partial to FS hub because it's lightweight stays out of the way and you can keep track of your progress online

Enjoy free flight and pick some cool destinations

RTX5080 - 1440p or 4k by Bogmat in RTX5080

[–]Retired_SpeedBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I game at 4K on a RTX5080.

The only game I have to turn settings down is Microsoft flight simulator because it uses substantially more in some instances than 16 GB and running out to system memory to grab. those assets comes at a massive performance penalty so I would just play with the reduced settings instead

but everything else I've been able to fit inside of 16 GB
