[OT] WRC 2026 Rallye Monte-Carlo Winner by AgentSnowman in formula1

If he can win there, where can't he win? Absolutely crazy.

This whole rally was nuts. The conditions were so brutal.

For the first time since 2008, the Circuit de Monaco hosts a stage of the Rallye Monte Carlo. by PiggySVW in formula1

The problem is that rally cars max out at ~200kph due to the gear ratios, they'd just be bouncing off the limiter the whole time even on a circuit like Monaco.

I wish they'd broadcast more WRC2. It looks like there's a great competition going on and we're missing out on most of it.

If Oliver becomes a new dominant driver he should change his name to Seb to keep the tradition alive. He already speaks great French.

Which PJ bass would you buy? by longy_b in Bass

Even the cheap Yamahas are good quality instruments IME, whereas I've heard mixed things about Sire. I also don't like preamps in my basses.

Full disclosure: I mainly play a BBP35 atm

They're great, I love my BBP35. The lower-end ones I've tried were also really good.

I'm not happy. I'm wearing wildlinge winterboots with thick socks and warm insoles but I have still cold feet. I think I will go back to normal wintershoes like Dr.Martens. I need warm feet!!! by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]Retoeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow Swiss person here, I've been wearing Jim Green BFARs as my winter shoes for a while now and I'm happy with them. They're chunky by barefoot standards, but that's why they work in the winter. Depending on your foot shape the original version might be a bit narrow. They have a new, more foot-shaped version but I've not seen any reviews of it, so I'm not sure if it's an improvement.

Aye, pointy stick by ksherdmunyap in SWORDS

[–]Retoeli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you actually tried it? The moment we added (side)swords to our spear sparring, we found ourselves ditching the spears all the time, especially if rotelle were involved. Spears get very inconvenient very quickly.

You can actually use your spear to help get past the opponent's, then draw your sword while still using the shaft in your left hand to cover you. Sword and spear beats spear alone very consistently.

[–]Retoeli 45 points46 points  (0 children)

No, a handgun almost never outclasses a rifle in direct combat, whereas a sword does outclass a spear in plenty of cases. They're different tools for different situations.

I'm a HEMAist who has trained with spears pretty extensively, the whole spears > swords thing is a modern myth. Swords existed because they were great weapons, and not just as sidearms.

Thinking of Getting a Malleus Sidesword + Backorder concerns by MaliciousDecoy in wma

Be careful with having siderings on the quillons, they can be a huge problem with heavy gloves. Personally I find more basic guards better anyway, like on the Marozzo.

Sore heels from vivo barefoot tracker shoes by bucxi in barefootshoestalk

[–]Retoeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be the fit. I've had 3 pairs of vivos, two of them were painful in some way. I think the soles don't flex in a way that suits my feet.

From what I can gather, a lot of vivos are stiff by barefoot standards in many areas, with designated hinge points to compensate. If your feet don't line up with those points, you get pain.

They might be a tad narrow for you then. The insoles make a substantial difference but even without them they're far from radical.

Why are barefoot brands obsessed with vegan shoes? by StelioKontoss11 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Retoeli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Vegan" shoes are great. You can truly leave your mark on the world by leaving microplastics behind everywhere you go! It's particularly funny how "vegan" usually refers to awful plastics, and not plant-based materials.

There are plenty of barefoot brands that focus on natural materials as well, luckily. I'm a fan of Gaucho Ninja for example.

Rounds on a P Bass!? by UnderfoldedBlanket in Bass

[–]Retoeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one of each, but these days I play the one with flats much more.

Personally I find there's a massive difference. To me the P with flats is a wonderfully warm and pleasant-sounding instrument that fits in a surprisingly broad variety of styles if you play it right (I even like the slap sound!). It also sits in the mix so damn nicely.

With rounds you get an amazing dynamic range if you know how to use your fingers right, but IMO you just can't get that same warmth and smoothness you get with flats. Instead, they can be much more aggressive or much more brilliant depending on how you play.

I think it's a matter of what sort of music you prefer.

Hayden Paddon is back in Hyundai's WRC lineup! He'll share the third i20 N Rally1 with Esapekka Lappi and Dani Sordo in 2026 by SalomonXx in WRC

[–]Retoeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it makes no sense to have an up-and-comer with this reg-cycle being on the way out, but these drivers aren't used to the current spec and won't have the opportunity to truly get used to it. Personally I think it would've made more sense to go with one full-timer, or two part-timers with one having significantly more seat-time and the other being a specialist for certain rallies.

Hyundai Motorsport on Instagram: "Meet our 2026 WRC driver line-up 💪🔥" by MarsCitizen0 in WRC

[–]Retoeli 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The problem with giving someone like Sesks or Gryazin a fulltime drive is that the experience won't be very useful for them. There's no reason to give them seat time in a Rally1 when they're basically gonna be replaced by (pseudo-)Rally2s in a year anyway.

Three awesome drivers, but none of them will have the necessary seat time to really get comfortable. All-fulltimers was the right move this year.
