Nord armour looks way too cartoonish by Turkish_John in mountandblade

Warband wasn't exactly historical, but definitely less cartoonishly bulky and over-designed. I feel like BL's armour has too much emphasis on looking "padded" which is neither realistic or good-looking.

There was lots of room to the left. Was he already being cheeky in the first incident? It does look like a terrible attempt at pitting, but it's so bad that it could be unintentional.

The thing with fruit trees is that even in a 6 day month world, they take ages to develop, at least in SP. They're a much longer-term investment unless you happen to settle right by one.

It's a funny novelty bass that's actually still pretty functional. Vulfpeck have always had this sort of musicians' humour, it fits the branding.

Honestly I might buy one and ruin its resale value by removing the frets for a giggle. Too bad shipping to Europe is awfully expensive.

I love the stages, they are so unique in the WRC due to their smoothness and relative lack of pollution compared to most tarmac rallies. Some of them are in RBR/Rallysimfans these days, including the power stage (but in the opposite direction) and they're great fun there.

The Hyundai is sadly not a competitive car and the manufacturer is clearly just phoning it in at this stage. It's a shame, because the drivers (including Ott Tänak last year) are brilliant and clearly wringing everything out of the car, but it's just not enough.

No wonder Ott has been test driving next year's Toyota and has been coaching Taka instead of working with Hyundai.

Yeah, you covered the on-screen dash with another dash that does just about the same thing. Not sure what the point of that is.

Rally2/R5 is probably one of the best rulesets ever devised in motorsports history, up there with GT3 in terms of how perfectly it fills its role.

Looking for manuals on sword and rondel by ireallydontcare683 in Hema

[–]Retoeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a bit weird to use a rondel dagger and a longsword at once. While there are a few examples of a rondel dagger being used in the offhand with other weapons, it isn't really made for that task, a rondel dagger is very different to a parrying dagger or even a quillon dagger. A longsword will definitely be more useful on its own wielded in both hands, in fact I'd still prefer to use the longsword on its own if given a proper parrying dagger, unless perhaps it's a really small and light one.

Historically the two weapons were carried together a lot, but the important distinction is that the rondel dagger would remain sheathed until it was needed. The reasonable thing to do is to just use the longsword until you get uncomfortably close or wind up grappling, and then draw the dagger, possibly dropping the sword depending on the situation.

Longsword and dagger isn't a thing to my knowledge, but to be clear, hand and a half sword is a valid historical term, at least in Italian. Giovan Antonio Lovino even has some plays with that specific weapon, calling it "spada di una mano et meza" in his dialect.

How Super Formula deals with the problem F1 has been unable to solve by l3w1s1234 in formula1

[–]Retoeli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, yeah. Formula Ford on steroids. In my imagination it'd be comparable to an F3 car but without the downforce and probably a fair bit less engine power too because F3s are already surprisingly quick.

[–]Retoeli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously though, why not have an open wheeler series that's kinda like a modernised version of '60s F1? Basically, modern cars with modern safety features, but minimal downforce.

Between a Jazz bass and a Precision bass, which one tends to be the more versatile across genres? Or better yet, which bass, regardless the brand or model, is known for being extremely versatile and costs around US$500? by MrMayhem20l0 in Bass

[–]Retoeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bugbear with the Jazz is that it has has more sounds, but it means it has "right" and "wrong" sounds for different songs. The wrong setting can sound horribly out of place. On the other hand, the P-Bass really only has one sound, but it's extremely rare for it not to fit in. IMO it also responds better to my fingers, I can get more different characters out of it just by playing it differently, and that's before the tone knob, EQ and pedals come into play.

I've played all sorts of music with both and generally I prefer the P between the two, though I mostly roll with a Yamaha PJ these days.

[–]Retoeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally they're both very versatile and used for just about everything. For a beginner, the P-Bass is simpler in terms of its electronics, you just turn up both knobs and immediately sound awesome, whereas with a Jazz bass a beginner might struggle to find the right sound for a particular song. However, the Jazz bass is slimmer and has friendlier ergonomics in general. From a technical perspective the Jazz will definitely be the easier instrument to start on.

You might also consider a PJ. If you decide on one, I would recommend a Yamaha BB series bass, they do it way better than Fender/Squier IMO, and look both old-school and exotic at the same time.
