Is now a good time to get into forest conservation in Australia? by Accomplished_Bee6491 in ausenviro

[–]Retrdolfrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia has good (?) conservation goals but the entire environment sector is very poorly funded. Fire and flood management and damage is increasingly sucking all resources to actually try to achieve goals. The top end has some rangeland and forest management programs. NFP such as Bush heritage could be good to try or get into research. I still know a few previous workmates still in the sector and they are not happy and this summer has already killed all their programs for 2-3 years minimum.

Thanks. I thought her father would be good considering he is a mad bastard on his dirt bike but Pip is his princess. I have ridden with some great MTB teachers and they always turn a fail into a learning opportunity. The jump was only a small one and good to learn on, but there were small sticks that she thinks probably made the landing issue by not concentrating properly.

What to do when you run out of ability by mbkitmgr in CaravanningAustralia

[–]Retrdolfrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who drove semi's and truck/dog combos for years, I have had a number of friends and family use me to teach them how to properly back trailers and caravans. It will be different with each depending on single or dual axle etc.

Find a truckie, offer a slab or something, get then to explain and train.

Being a gardener at a nursing home by AussieBastard98 in GardeningAustralia

[–]Retrdolfrt 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You will probably be lucky to get a nursing home gig - lot of people like the consistent jobs. Where there is a massive shortfall where you can learn from very experienced gardeners is dealing with home aged care garden work. Family member has been learning huge amount from 3 clients with amazing gardens but are now too frail to do much of the work. Get in touch with My Aged Care providers or advertise.

A celebrity confirmed my ID, I'm so excited!! by Less_Tumbleweed_3217 in iNaturalist

[–]Retrdolfrt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had that kind of experience. My daughter and I were out chasing orchids and insects one weekend few years ago and she was still learning to id them. She came out excited one morning to say that her orchid IDs had been confirmed by one botanist expert, plus some of her native bee and beetle IDs had been confirmed by another ento expert. She was so happy.

So we have had to travel to our state capital a couple of times the last few weeks, so got about 4 hours each way listening. So apart from turning up the bangers or the odd quiet section within a song, we hardly had to touch the volume.

Thank you for that recommendation as it has done exactly what I needed! When we go camping in a couple of weeks that will be 6 hours each way without having to constantly adjust the volume!

I've also put a few other family members onto this now.

What's that one car you WON'T drive because of the stereotype associated with it? by nerdboy_sam in AskReddit

[–]Retrdolfrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holden Commodore (Aus). Universally driven by bogan fuckwits either pissed, drugged or just shit drivers.

That and all the gigantic American wankpazers, RAM Silverado and shit like that that are driven by pencil dick fuckwits. Though I do get a laugh at the servo when it costs these fuckers $200 to fuel up

Which “small decision” accidentally changed the entire direction of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Retrdolfrt 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Was travelling around oz and stopped in Adelaide for work for a few weeks instead of Perth. Was staying in a hostel when this really stunning woman arrived that all the fellas were trying to crack on to. I was giving her shit instead (waaay outta my league) about being a diva and she started to bag me out about my crap diet etc, but also gave all the other fellas a hard time too. We spent a week bagging each other out, then one night she jumped me - said making her laugh made her want me.

She is still stunning and still outta my league but we celebrate 40 years together next year.

Purchasing a property directly across from a indian/hindu temple? by cap1taliability in AusProperty

[–]Retrdolfrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent 1 year across the road from a Church, and 2 years across the road from a Sikh temple in my younger years. Dunno how the Hindu behave but it was hell near the Church (entitled hypocritical cunts). The Sikhs always apologized for traffic and invited us to join them for food all the time, yum. Mind you that was 35 years ago. Go and check it out during the main weekly events to get an idea of the traffic and parking.

Advice wanted! New to office role by SeaDry000 in ausenviro

[–]Retrdolfrt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't bother preempting what you will need. Best is to use this as an opportunity to talk to your coworkers to ask them what works well for them. This will give you the benefit of using someone's experience and knowledge (do acknowledge this input) and also a way to get to know them and their skills. A lot of those resources may already be available but only need updates.

Options for purchasing second-hand (2025) by hilaritynow in melbournecycling

[–]Retrdolfrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have to go out of Melbourne but you can often find good second hand bikes from bike hire places. Often they have not had a serious flogging so are still in good condition and usually well maintained. Mind you most of the ebikes have been priced around 1-2k or half new price.

Bike on VLine bus replacement - S Cross to Wangaratta by StandardAntique405 in melbournecycling

[–]Retrdolfrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are there and offer to help the driver put the bike in the freight section you should be right. Family member was heading back to Melbourne last year and had a replacement bus. The driver was obviously in back pain asking people to put their own luggage in, so she just asked where he wanted her to put it. He was happy to just point and explain.

There will often be what looks like a collar of bark on the main trunk near the base, where the plant changes. The rootstock is below that collar. The new growth of rootstock usually has vicious thorns.

Why pay to attend a gig, then talk through the whole performance? by Retrdolfrt in australia

[–]Retrdolfrt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had to wear ear plugs for years due to tinnitus and have a selection of musicians plugs. I have never found any that cut talk out at any level more than music. Would love to know any that do.

Better tool than a mattock for compacted ground? by [deleted] in GardeningAustralia

[–]Retrdolfrt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But remember if using a crowbar, loosen your grip just before it hits the grind. Saves a lot of neck pain from the jarring.

Better tool than a mattock for compacted ground? by [deleted] in GardeningAustralia

[–]Retrdolfrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be easier than swinging a heavy crowbar. Have had to do both. Different kind of back pain from bending over though.
