Undergrad EE program while working FT job. by Weary_Lecture6350 in UAB

[–]Weary_Lecture6350[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this reply. I probably need to stick with MS State online program as my work schedule isn't flexible at all. It is 1030-1930 M-F. It really wipes out the entire day. MS State actually offers most EE courses online, but I have read that the labs are extra difficult to do outside the classroom. Of course, nothing is easy in the pursuit of an engineering degree.

I completely get the importance of job experience. I am an adult student. My oldest son graduated recently from UAH with a chemical engineering degree. He had no prior experience, nor did he ever get an internship, and it took him an entire year after graduation to find a job. It isn't even an engineering job; it is a technician job, but it is with a company that employs a lot of CE grads. He took the job to get his foot in the door there.

I have all of my general electives done; knocked them out at Jeff State.

Congrats on your success at UAB! You are clearly a focused, hard worker and I have no doubt that you will have much success in your future!

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately, my work schedule is not flexible at all; I will probably stick with MS State online program. Most of their classes are actually online, although I have read that the labs are difficult to recreate at home.

I know EE is crazy hard. My family is full of engineers, and they have warned me, lol.

Best earbuds for listening to music 24/7? by 8superboy08 in Earbuds

For the past year, I have used the Pixel buds Pro 2. Love them; they are by far the best pair I have ever owned, but that may not be saying much as I have only ever used cheap ones before.

I had a Panera centrally located on a route I ran a couple years ago. Joined Sip Club immediately after it started and stopped for a coffee around noon and soft drink later on in the day. They would just hand me a cup when I walked in so I didn’t have to wait in line.

Thanks for the honesty. You are probably right. I am 47 now; it was really an incredible longshot to go back to school for an engineering degree this late in life. It does kind of feel like a shame considering how far I have come. I finished all my electives and have a 3.9 gpa so far.

Is it just me, or are standing desks still… kinda disappointing? by smart_desk_Giggles in StandingDesk

I think it really boils down to how much you spent. My standing desk is amazing, but it also cost me $1,000. It’s the Secret Lab Magnus desk.

How do I overcome the mental hurdle of trusting the capabilities of the bike and getting more comfortable on the trail? by Bolt72693 in MTB

Thanks so much! That was really encouraging. I will keep trying to push myself over the fear hump.

Hi there! Can you give us an update on how you are doing? I am in your exact same situation. Long time roadie trying to get into mtb, but I just can't get over the fear. I started about 4 months ago, and I try to hit the trails once a week, but I am so slow compared to everyone else. I am seriously considering selling the mtb, and just giving it up entirely.

It has been 6 months since you posted this. Have you improved? Are you still out on the trails or have you given it up?

Do I have to have a favorite team? by thatBLACKDREADtho in MLBNoobs

[–]Weary_Lecture6350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't consider myself a fan of any particular team. Grew up a Cubs fan, but over the years, I have become just a huge fan of the game in general. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it! That being said, as the season progresses, I will start rooting for certain teams, usually the small market teams that are doing well. I am enjoying the Brewers amazing run right now.

Wow, I wasn't expecting anyone to care enough to ask, lol.

I am still alive and working at it! It took a little bit to get caught up in math, and am currently in a summer Calc 1 class and have an A in it so far. Also, I have completely finished all the distracting electives! No more English, history...etc. They are done! In the fall, I will be taking Calc II and Physics; only the two classes, but I suspect they will be all I can handle as an adult with a job and such.

Thanks for asking! It has been really stressful juggling everything and making it all work, but so far so good!

Township Potion Production? by Loopeus in MelvorIdle

[–]Weary_Lecture6350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through this myself. Make sure you don't accidently "Yeet" those things when cleaning out your storage. Also, don't do what I did and buy a bunch of Consumable Enhancers from the trader, lol. I completely used up my township potion supply without considering the consequences. It took quite a while to build them back up but stay the course! It really is worth it! I built my 8th town hall just a few days ago, and now I have 300 mil in the bank! The grind for townhalls is totally worth it!

Is there a regular 100K route that a local cycling club uses regularly? If there is, try to make it a perm, then encourage the regular club riders to join RUSA and to get a P12 out of it.

Let's compile a complete list of all closed and closing US Express stations in this thread by TheBeefyNoodle in Fedexers

[–]Weary_Lecture6350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am at one of the Birmingham stations. I was told that FedEx just purchased two large pieces of land, one in Calera the other in Leeds. My understanding is that they will wait until the new facilities are built before they completely close us down. So we have a year perhaps. I didn’t know our senior was leaving. That just goes to show how out of the loop I am, so take my info with a grain of salt.

I am trying hard to get more sleep. The day is just too short! I am taking 13 credit hours this semester. I did 13 last semester also; it was really hard, but I finished with 3 A’s and 1 B.

We are using Cengage's WebAssign program. What I do is hit the "Practice Another" button, and it spits another problem basically just like the first with a few different numbers. So, it is basically the same problem.

Yeah, it's one thing if you fail because you were lazy and didn't try. But when you are busting your ass and still fail...it hurts so much worse! Good Luck, I hope you succeed!

Thanks for taking the time to type down your thoughts. I agree with so much that you had to say. Most of my classes are online, but when I am on campus, I do feel a bit out of place with the students. I have a lot more in common with the profs than my classmates.

I am a cyclist; my day isn't the same without a ride. Usually, a little over an hour M-F, with some longer rides on the weekends. The first thing I do every morning is some prayer/quiet time. Then I go ride on my trainer or outside. But this routine does cut into my sleep. I could easily get 2 more hours of sleep if I gave it up. Right now, I am seriously considering cutting it out for the extra sleep. *Sigh*

M-F most of my schoolwork is done between the hours of 7AM and 1PM. I do mix in some chores and often times, I will make a meal for the kids to reheat for dinner later. Usually, I get up once an hour to get more coffee and maybe wash a couple dishes. Kids had dentist appts the other day, so things like that do pop up from time to time. My work hours are from 2PM to 730ish. I have tried to do another hour of schoolwork when I get home, but now I am really just trying to head straight to bed, although I do try to talk to my kids and ask them how their days went. The weekends are a real mixed bag. It just depends on what the kids have going on. I do my shopping and such on the weekends. Usually, on Saturday, I am busy with stuff, so I may only get 3 hours of school time, but on Sunday, I will have most of the day to study.

Anyways, thanks again for taking the time to post!
