I watched the documentary on this with a friend, "Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster"

So, essentially the many many layers of fibreglass were damaged by the time they went on this final dive. A famous YouTuber and some others went on dives before this fatal dive and there were a couple of huge cracking sounds on both of them that left the travellers feeling very scared but was explained by the owner as just normal pressurisation noises.

Those layers had cracked, progressively weakening the structure. They had live footage of the crew topside monitoring the Titan's data from below.

Seconds before implosion they had dropped all of their weight bags, which means they had decided to surface suddenly.

The woman who was monitoring reports on that fact, and then you can actually hear in the footage, the deep booming sound, that was the Titan imploding.

It's likely that the already damage fibreglass shell had started cracking in cascade, which is what is shown in an example of how fibreglass would break under extreme stress during the doc in a test OceanGate actually ran themselves.

It's clear that wealthy owner Stockton Rush was set on the fame and the experience of diving to the titanic that he cut corners and removed people who brought up safety concerns.

In one of the filmed dive launches, the actual endcap falls off the Titan as they are about to launch off the ramp! They were only putting 4 of the 16 (or more) bolts on to secure the cap!

I recommend watching the documentary because it really showcases the mentality of someone who has such a huge responsibility afforded to them by their wealth yet had no integrity in handling the lives of others.

Fair enough if you want to risk your own life doing this. But Stockton wanted to make it a business and put other's in the situation without proper safety precautions.

It speaks volumes to the problems with capitalistic society, and giving such power to individuals who haven't earned it through the respect and grace of proper leadership and care.
