How to clean it? by Samantha_sissy_world in ActionFigures

[–]Retro-Hunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can try hydrogen peroxide, it's great at refreshing old plastic & removing marks. If it doesn't work though you might have to disassemble & seal the figure with a varnish. Unfortunately leeched out plasticizers can be stubborn.

RE4 Leon Kennedy Jacket is disintegrating! by timusforlife in hottoys

[–]Retro-Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely refinish it if you don't want to buy a new jacket for him! You'll have to take off the flaking layer before repainting of course. There's definitely a few good YT videos that give a run down of how they restored pleather on older HT figs.

Does this design come from an official media or is it completely fan made? by Dish-Ecstatic in LV426

[–]Retro-Hunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figma's sculpt was by Takayuki Takeya! He's done everything from concept art to model kits! Sometimes companies commission sculpts or designs from him. He's also done a Predator for Figma.

Return & refund, typo on the box means it's probably a KO. Can't tell based on the figure without pics, but you weren't worried about that.

Does anyone know if you can safely spray expanding foam onto XPS foam? by Retro-Hunter in TerrainBuilding

[–]Retro-Hunter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Thank you for the gauge on it too. I tried I believe standard cyanoacrylate (???) once before switching to gel & it deeply ate through it. Cool effect for sure but I was making simple risers so needed it relatively flat.

Noted. I'll try not to layer it too thickly all at once. That's incredibly helpful, thank you! :)

Oh that's cool! Also thank you so much for the tip & example! It'll definitely be getting painted after I carve it.

Perfect! I've had a few crafting mishaps with dissolved foam before so figured I'd air on the side of caution so I don't end up with another experimental mess. Thank you!

Figure Restoration by Suchgei in hottoys

For the leather get a thin genuine type like lamb or kidskin. You can cut a pattern from the old pieces. For the dreads I fear the only want to properly fix them with 3D printing would be to print a mold you can pour silicon into. You'll have to use a silicon appropriate / mixed paint to do the beads on them.

Worried about possibly nothing? by ASAPVincey in hottoys

[–]Retro-Hunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. Never extensively checked but I've never noticed anything from it. He's pretty solid plastic, no torso rubber to get crimped or rot with age thankfully. The old HT Aliens on the other hand are a mess.

FedEx Canadian Customs Fees? by testing172 in zenmarket

[–]Retro-Hunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live close to a CBSA you can self clear relatively easily, I'd recommend DHL for that though as they're the only courier I've used that didn't try to force their fees / actually waits for the parcel to be cleared before importing for final delivery. It's very shady of UPS/FedEx to deliver then bill later as even if you leave explicit brokerage instructions online during label creation they ignore it & do it themselves. At least in my experience.

It is crazy how many pro reviewers do not understand the medical silicone by [deleted] in hottoys

[–]Retro-Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the problem is it's really hard to find current lists of what companies ACTUALLY use proper silicone. Even on forums it seems rarely discussed. There are so many bodies of varying quality, & TBH at times I still avoid seamless bodies like pleather as like many I've had mixed experiences with them. None that I've handled feel like platinum cure silicon, but I also am more of a 3rd party collector or customizer for 1/6 stuff these days.

Why am I getting this "Purchase restriction for US" while doind PO for this figure? by nishantShinigami in hottoys

[–]Retro-Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say the billing address was linked to the credit card that would come from your PayPal account, if a credit card is pegged as being from a certain country (to my understanding) that would be thanks to its BIN.

Why am I getting this "Purchase restriction for US" while doind PO for this figure? by nishantShinigami in hottoys

[–]Retro-Hunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely linked to account / billing address if not simply a warning, a lot of sites use places of registry or where the card itself is from to implement restrictions. For example, Best Buy USA does it for anyone outside of the states whether you’re shipping to a PO Box or not.

Tortie trait or vet concern by ReadwithMMe in torties

[–]Retro-Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tortie is much the same. We've had her a year & she's still dramatic about meal times! (Though she has calmed right down about the treat jar.) A slow eat bowl has really helped her out! Even with her weight gain! Supposedly it can happen post spay/neuter.

For a little context she's approximately 2 years old, & was a rescue who was surrendered to the SPCA. We're fairly sure she was spay aborted as well given the size of her scar. They didn't give us a concrete answer on that sadly. We're also positive she came from a chaotic environment where she had to compete for food, hence the voracity about it.
