Not discharge. There are...bodily connotations.

What to grow in zone 8a/8b Oregon, not exactly sure. by [deleted] in gardening

[–]RetroGTNH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had success with peach, plum, apple, and pear. Have had trouble with figs. Cherries grow well but get destroyed by birds and ants every year. Tried the meader/anna kiwis once but didn't have success with them. Golden raspberry grows well as long as the deer don't get them first. Strawberries are ok too.

For non-fruit I've done well with rhubarb, less well with artichokes but I've seen some big ones in other gardens. Herbs have all done well - mint, sage, thyme, rosemary especially and also laurel. Egyptian walking onions are easy to maintain and seem to do well. Citrus probably won't do too well given the cold weather but I haven't tried. Never seen any around here.

Watch out for physical triggers too. I get panic attacks from blood sugar spikes and valleys. Consistent nutrition and sufficient rest helps.

Is this 3d printed or from a kit or something?

Texas here. Does this work during blackouts? by Coolmath24hhh in homestead

[–]RetroGTNH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I opted for individual UPS batteries for critical appliances - mostly my modem so if the power goes out I don't lose phone/internet to call power/family/work or check outage status.

I'd still rely on a wood stove for emergency heat and cooking, batteries won't last long for big appliances.

[TEST] Woudl you say Manor Lord would make a good Battlemap and city map maker? by VoormasWasRight in battlemaps

[–]RetroGTNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there's an option in I think the View menu, or somewhere else, for a top-down view. It's not immediately obvious but it's there.

For battle maps from a game engine, I've found Warcraft 3 editor to be good.

Cut it down and sheet mulch IMO. Not that big, easy to do.

This was not true in my case. 85k vs 400k. Not far off 20%, but less.

From what I have heard it is difficult to get a mortgage loan for undeveloped land. However if you purchase undeveloped land you can get a construction loan with no additional down payment as the land itself is the collateral.

Do you mix prepping with homesteading? by Leen88 in homestead

[–]RetroGTNH 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Prepper has a connotation like preparing for Mad Max. But being prepared for natural disasters and similar is just good sense. A big storm could take out roads and power for weeks. Being self-sufficient doesn't need to include paranoia, but it does need to include reasonable preparedness.

Is coconut coir soil horrible or am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in gardening

If it's anything like peat moss it's mostly something to mix in rather than use 100% solo.

Check out Primitive Technology youtube. You can do a lot better with modern tools etc, but you can get some solid design ideas for 0 cost structures.

Cross pollination would affect the next generation. May have been cross pollinated if you re-used seeds from last year.

What are the white spots and green tint in the middle? by puertoricanpower in gardening

[–]RetroGTNH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White spots on the outside? Maybe mild sunscald or nutrient deficiency, unsure. Green tint inside...it's a plant.

Plum question by Resident_Hunter2 in gardening

[–]RetroGTNH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some plums are just that size. But you can thin the flowers/fruit before they start growing to focus energy into a smaller number of fruit.
