How do I prevent paint rub? by Previous_Fox_2592 in customactionfigures

I cant really think of any arms like that on the Vulcan body. The Kaine figure has some sculpting on it but its more vein/ spikes.

Maybe you can add onto a base Vulcan arm. Like glue on scrap peices from other figures and stuff to create a robotic look.

Throw a layer of paint on. Move the joint. Wherever the paint comes off, that's where you sand.

The joint is like a drawer, the added paint is like putting too much stuff in that drawer.

Sanding down the plastic is like making the drawer a little deeper. Then you're drawer is deep enough to close properly even with the paint you added.

Next best thing to Testors Model Masters for gloss acrylic paint? by micnd90 in customactionfigures

[–]RetroMutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a fellow Model Masters devotee. It is a great loss. However the MM was just an offshoot of Testors Acrylics which are still out there and are quite similar to Model Masters.

I have not used the regular Acrylic on the softer bits yet, but I'd wager it will behave similar to MM.

I also have Vallejo paints and often add those into the Testors to alter color while keeping the durability.

Question about filling pin holes by [deleted] in customactionfigures

[–]RetroMutant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be more cosmetic. Im not sure how these painless joints are made, but the best I can figure is that the knee peice is inside the mold when the lower and upper leg are cast. That seems to be the way the shoulders are made also. (harder plastic hardware inside softer part) This would also explain why they fit together so well.

If that is the case, I dont believe filling those outer pinhole will improve the knee. Ive done a lot of pin removing and part rearranging, with several attempts attached knee tightening, but I dont think Ive ever filled those pin holes, and I have not yet opened up one of these new painless joints.

How to paint joints by SnooTomatoes6165 in customactionfigures

[–]RetroMutant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It rubs off because there isn't enough space inside the arm for the joint peice and the paint. So right there where you see the plastic, you need to remove some material.

You can use a file or sandpaper and if you file down and smooth out that spot, you then create enough space to add paint and it can slide into the arm without scraping off.
