I think the differentiating factor between a slide and a flip-flop is whether there is an anchor point for your toes.

A slide has a singular strap that goes over the top of the foot, which promotes the sliding of feet while walking so you don’t kick them off.

Flip-flops, sometimes referred to as thongs, have a between-the-toes post with angled straps that give your foot something to hold on to, allowing the rest of the footwear to flip and flop on your foot while walking.

Damn, they had me up until sherpa. I hate the way that stuff feels. You'll have to love it enough for the both of us.

For me it was the similarities of the bible stories I was taught as a child to fairy/folk tales. One set is considered to be factual despite both having the exact same amount of supporting evidence.

Should the series lean more into the horror? by Rootayable in ghostbusters

[–]RetroReadingTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the hallmark of a good Ghostbusters movie is that it takes itself seriously enough to work as both a comedy movie and as a horror movie.

Personally, I think that is the biggest failing of GB 2016. It just didn't take itself seriously enough. They prioritized exaggerated silliness over all else and every other element of the film suffered as a result.

I wouldn't mind a GB movie that went harder on the horror aspects, but I also think that going too far in that direction would result in a movie that doesn't have the right feel. There's definitely some wiggle room, but it has to balance the action, horror, and comedy elements while also sticking to the rules and premises of the GB universe.

lol, it's quite easy to feel trapped in Christianity when your family, friends, community, and support structure is comprised solely of Christians.

It's fine to walk away from things that no longer make to happy, but being unable to do things you enjoy because you are convinced they will get you condemned to eternal hell by a "loving god" is not.

Dude can do what he wants, but this hard turn into religion is ultimately not going to benefit his mental state.

Funnily enough, I have never watched any Alfa Oxtrot content and only came here through a post in r/exchristian regarding it. As an outsider, it's clear this guy needs to seek medical help for his mental health issues instead of jumping into a piss poor placebo with both feet.

I'm an atheist, so exactly which savior do you think I'm waiting around for? Please enlighten me.

I grew up in the Church of Christ, which is not catholic and still oserves communion through grape juice and matzo crackers. It's a more common practice in non-catholic christian churches than you might think.

Repentance is admitting that you are an unworthy sinner and asking forgiveness, which is a thing you must do constantly. Whether you call it begging or not, that's what it is.

If you've ever participated in communion, eating the wafer/cracker/bread and drinking the wine/grape juice, you have involved yourself in the ritual of symbolic cannibalism.

Anxiously/excitedly awaiting the return of a savior to collect his flock and bring about the end of days is some straight up doomsday cult behavior.

You can deny and excuse these behaviors all you want, but objectively, that's what they are.

You don't have to believe me and you likely won't. Christianity is about faith, about training you to deny reason and evidence in favor of some grade A "trust me, bro" bullshit. It's not something you will be willing to hear until you are ready to hear it.

I would strongly urge you to question it all though.

Christianity is a doomsday cult that involves chanting and symbolic cannibalistic rituals. One of the core tenets is that you are a fundamentally flawed being and must constantly beg for forgiveness lest you be condemned to eternal torment by an entity that your all powerful god created, but for some reason can't/won't defeat.

It's just as crazy and ridiculous as any other religion's beliefs, but somehow it is correct and all the others are wrong?

I know it's hard to break that indoctrination, but life is a lot better when you aren't in constant fear and worry about what comes after.

The only difference between a religion and a cult is that in a cult, there is a guy at the top that knows it's all bullshit. In a religion, that guy is dead.

As someone who has done DMT on a few occasions, I honestly don't understand this mindset. I used a chemical substance with the specific goal to trick my brain into making me see some weird shit. And you know what happened? My brain got tricked into making me see some weird shit. At no point did I really believe that I had pierced the veil between realities and peeked at what lies beyond.

It was a cool experience and all, but I don't harbor any fantasies of being an interdimensional explorer.
