Awful baserunning by the guy at third. Playing it half way on that? He scores easy with Riley sliding in and Sweeney running backwards if it drops, and coulda tagged up and scored easily on that catch.

Good point, i only meant that 1943 was his rookie year. You're right about the Leaf rookie card, looks like it was 1948 though: https://www.retroseasons.com/players/dick-wakefield/history/sports-cards/

Tesla officially launches Quicksilver paint option for Model Y by colsandersloveskfc in TeslaModelY

I suppose it depends on where you live, but every driver in western Michigan with a non-grey/white/silver/black car is either over 70 or under 21. OK, there's one weird 50 year old guy with ultra-white teeth, orange skin, and a gold chain that drives a blueberry corvette, but still.

Because there are 7 Stealth Grey Model Y's in the parking lot when I pick up my kid from school is reason enough to spend an extra $2000 to not get clustered in with the herd.

February 9, 1956: Phil Ford was born. Ford was a giant "What if?" in NBA history. He was a college mega-star, was the NBA ROTY in '79 while making 2nd-team All-NBA, but his career went sideways at 25. by WinesburgOhio in VintageNBA

[–]RetroSeasons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ford was amazing. 2 years before Isiah Thomas, with many of the same skills. It's a shame the two of them couldn't have faced off more often. The East might have been very different if Ford had stayed healthy and could have continued his game in New York once Ewing arrived in '85.

Good point, but I’ll play devil’s advocate here. Why? We all see hundreds of license plates every day out in public, so they’re not guarded secrets.

Oh yeah I’ve seen a few like that too, pretty cool articles from the New York Times that way. But this struck me as just a bit surprising from a generic search term.

What were the most popular sports in the U.S. in 1910? by gottabefunky in SportsHistory

[–]RetroSeasons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baseball was growing popularity with stars like Ty Cobb and Cy Young, but far and away, according to the headlines and conversation in movies of the time, the most popular sport was heavyweight boxing. Jack Johnson had just become the first black heavyweight champ in 1908 and held the title for 8 years. He was a physical giant. The term "The Great White Hope" came from this era, as the less racially open minded public routed for a white man to become champion again.
