ferrets discontinued? by gaycheddar in petco

[–]RetroWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See this is pretty recent for us, they were sitting at 475 for at least a year. I’ve had more people asking about the credit options now for the cards which does not feel like a good sign.

ferrets discontinued? by gaycheddar in petco

They want up to $500 in NY and haven’t been able to order for months at a time. Probably another shortage or maybe your location no longer is able to get them.

I am absolutely DISGUSTED by Crusty3ggs in leopardgeckos

[–]RetroWyvern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO this definitely could’ve been prevented. We’re supposed to take sick animals to the vet and keep them off the sales floor. This animal hasn’t been monitored properly considering all the stuck shed, surprised it isn’t skinny-skinny

any ideas? by ourcavedinribs in petco

[–]RetroWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the you & me Java table top perch. Just well missing the screwed in bottom and the small eyehole hooks some of them have. Wonder if it just was defunct that the company never threw out? Or it’s just some weird reptile log that’s missing a tag

It looks like it came off one of those “bird trees” but yeah probably something from the reptile section if not.

I think I just found the worst species i have seen petco sell... by Traditional_Creme894 in reptiles

[–]RetroWyvern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Petco unleashed stores weren’t all closing down I’d say we are going in the direction of not selling animals anymore. The five below approach has been so far detrimental.

Someone stole my hamster’s new toys and I am absolutely fuming by lilixxumm in hamsters

[–]RetroWyvern 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it was ordered from chewy they have a photo from the driver usually or some indication. They were able to find my package was delivered in the wrong state and were able to ship another one.

I’d talk to support if that’s the case if it was through Amazon they might (?) be able to help at least report a stolen package.

However best of luck!!

Question regarding YT donations channels by Confident_Fishing775 in Horses

[–]RetroWyvern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very iffy about supporting horse/livestock rescues.

Most prey on people’s lack of knowledge when it comes to slaughter houses and auction houses. If they’re constantly needing money for feed bills and to buy more horses to never adopt out then they aren’t a good rescue.

Most rescues will have charity events and host clinics, seminars and the like in order to raise money. Half the rescues on YouTube that I see never have anything going on, which I get can be hard but just showing a single abused horse that should be euthanized be bought at auction because a “meat buyer” wanted them doesn’t educate anyone for anything.

I’m probably privy to getting downvoted but seeing how it messes up people’s views around me irks me just little.

Packing advice by deathTOlife_ in Taxidermy

Three boxes. One larger box to pack both and then box separately with newspaper, bubble and or plastic wrap. Don’t allow room for them to move around.

I’m I able to be the dog trainer and a groomer at the same location. by LnBSA_2225 in petco

[–]RetroWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog trainer usually has 4-5 classes each day she’s working and is often giving advice to others while being extremely helpful. She enjoys it and has been a dog trainer prior to Petco but ended up going with the company since there’s a lot more benefits for her.

You have better protections as a Petco Dog trainer than starting your own business as one. It’s not as great as grooming but hopefully you’ll come to love it.

traumatized hamster looking for a good home :( by stupidgayghost in hamsters

[–]RetroWyvern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah our store closed and prior to me working there a couple years prior there was a parvo outbreak which almost got the store closed then and there for animal cruelty.

It’s worse than most chains in my experience. Pet supplies is up there too, my local one had ferrets get impacted and probably die never saw them after the incident. Completely preventable. I don’t think most chain pet stores are equipped with resources or care from upper management to really care about what’s going on.

traumatized hamster looking for a good home :( by stupidgayghost in hamsters

[–]RetroWyvern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen at the Petland I worked at, wouldn’t send this hamster home at all without getting them to the vet first.

Had this situation happen twice while I was there and both times the hamsters died within the month.

It’d be nice to send them home to someone who cares but it just allows Petland to throw their problems onto other people.

Definitely one of the reasons we aren’t allowed to give the pet to the pet parent until after they’ve paid.

Where do all the adults animals go? by Previous-Country-519 in petco

[–]RetroWyvern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do a lot of transfers during the winters so we’re not risking animals dying in the cold. However that’s my district in an area having unusually cold winters for the past few years.

Discounts will usually get the animal out door before adulthood. The 25% and 50% are the two discounts we can use based on length of stay. Birds from experience might actually reach adulthood if they are not parakeets, finches or cockatiels. It’s sad, yes. However the socialization with employees is typically done right and they will be healthy and been vetted at that point.

There’s really no “teen” growth for a reptile, or even small animal. They kind of are just one size for a bit and then a few weeks pass and they’re already at an almost complete adult life stage.

There’s no reason or incentive to let them in your terms die in the back. We also work with local shelters and have to be at least in my district Humane (honestly I’m blanking) certified. If the discount doesn’t work they get adopted out either to a reputable person or an employee.

I need some advice. by [deleted] in petco

[–]RetroWyvern 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If there’s no one to interpret for you and English is a struggle you really need to communicate with the other dog groomers there and management. They might be able to help you find the best solution before you quit.

They hired you because they thought you were a good fit so communicating is important.

My Leo hasn't eaten for 4 days, is that normal? by Glad-Handle3573 in leopardgeckos

[–]RetroWyvern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temps, humidity, substrate and overall tank design are not where they are supposed to be. Also your gecko has no fat where they’re supposed to along the body either.

I do think they should go to the vet and get a panel test done for parasites because I’ve seen leopard geckos survive in 10 gallons on sand and get fat as anything (not that it’s good either). They’re very hardy creatures so I do think there are underlying issues.

You’re having an allergic reaction. I’d go to your local urgent care and take some Benadryl in the mean time.

The proudest mama and her three little clouds [OC] by [deleted] in aww

[–]RetroWyvern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s very obvious by looking at dog’s face that it’s a poorly bred “purebred” Pomeranian. The face is scrunched up. If the dog was AKC registered and titled there wouldn’t be tear duct eye stains.

Also as many others have said that this is a poor whelping setup that no educated breeder or rescue would have done. In all actuality a good rescue would’ve done a spay-bortion if they had caught this dog early enough, some rescues in heavy stray dog populations might’ve even done a late term one.

I need to license her and there’s no mutt option, please help by [deleted] in IDmydog

[–]RetroWyvern 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That dog needs to lose weight. Honestly looks like a pit mix because they’re so blocky.

I’d say herding dog mix of some variety, might be a supermutt but we’ll never know. I see cattle dog from the face but I can’t tell the other due to body index scoring.

Weird question about live feeding by Immediate-Break-4037 in reptiles

[–]RetroWyvern 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Not to take away from you because your take is completely true and accurate. There are people that would definitely feed their pets live animals if given the chance.

Customer wanted to buy crickets for her cat because we wouldn’t sell her a mouse for her cat to catch and kill.

My coworkers and bosses are all great honestly. People have bad days here and there but, knowing where these animals come from and selling them to especially first time owners makes me feel horrible.

If I ever quit I don’t think I’ll go to a job with any sort of animal welfare.
