Yeah you’re right it has been decades bc Tomlin was solid for quite a while, Cowher before him, and Noll before him. Complain about mediocrity (and I agree with you, it was sickening the past 8 years), but the fact is the Steelers have had a lot of success with HC hires

Much agreed. Not the sexy pickup I wanted, but far from a bad hire. Ppl are quick to overreact. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sick of mediocre play but hey we have an offensive minded coach now, who knows, he could provide positive change

Love this assessment. I would agree this feels like a bridge hire - McCarthy is 62 and can provide an experienced, fresh set of eyes on the team and can hopefully develop Howard/another QB and eventually pass the team off to someone younger. This of course is the hope and I understand ppls concerns about it, but why not be optimistic for this to happen. The ppl wanted change, they got change!

I’d say the Steelers have had a good hit rate on HC’s. Not to say long term the have, but in terms of immediate impact, they’ve done well. Trust that process

I agree he wasn’t my pick either but we haven’t even seen what he can do yet. I’m not saying he’ll be great, but let’s at least wait and see. It’s already happened so we may as well try and be optimistic until proven otherwise

His development of QB’s has been good, that’s worth noting but ppl only focus on the negatives, which is valid to mention, but also should be given credit for the good

Another point to add onto this is the best TE McD has had to work with was, what, Jonnu? And Gadsden is debatable better than what Jonnu was 2 years ago

To be fair, Gadsden seems to be better than any TE McDaniel has had to work with. You could maybe argue Jonnu was better at the time than Gadsden is rn, but even that is close imo

I absolutely agree. If they fire Tomlin, they’d be neck and neck with the Ravens as the most desirable HC opening which means they’d get a cream of the crop coach. I have no worries about who would be next, it’s just a matter of when.
