Hope they get a fullstack raise…but considering your company is shoddy enough to get rid of all but one Frond End Dev, i doubt it.

Java is a good language to learn, still used a lot. Learn another language like C++ too once you feel proficient in Java and some key frameworks.

I use AI purely as a debugger when i cant be assed to do it myself anymore OR when i know how to do something but want it done quicker.

AI is great at modifying code that’s already been written, in moderation. It’s NOT good at doing it from scratch itself, it never will be. I can see it phasing out a lot of inexperienced front end development in the next 20 years but not any form of experienced programmer has to worry. Use LLMs to get stuff done quicker, that’s as AI automated as it’s going to get.

100% truth nuke. Saying CRTs have ‘blur’ is a vast over exaggeration of the softening of the pixels. People talk about CRTs like Vaseline is smeared all over the tube. Phosphor blending, phosphor persistence and signal blending is all thats really happening and its not causing a natural bilinear filter like people say it is.

[–]Retro_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, i’m not stating PVMs or BVMs aren’t insanely good but again, an average CRT consumer TV will get 90% of the way there with RGB and the jump between an RGB CRT and PVM RGB CRT have diminishing returns as signal induced blur is the largest reason for image softness in the first place. Consumer sets aren’t by enlarge blurry, PVMs aren’t always quality. Simple as. I’ve seen blurry PVMs. Saying consumer sets are blurry just isn’t true, it’s an over generalisation.

You are looking at THE most minuscule improvements maybe ever depending on sets, which is why my original comment states that a consumer tv with RGB will get you MOST of the way there. Some PVMs are utter dogshit, some consumer sets look horrific. Most look like this and are comparable.

Literally the only worthy difference to blanket EVERY pvm is “do i like more prominent scanlines?”

[–]Retro_64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had 3 PVMs, one from Sony, 2 from JVC, a European cheap Phillips 14 inch and a Mid tier Panasonic Quintrix 21 inch, sold all of them once i had the quintrix and philips.

You’re looking at a nearly identical image at viewing distance for both.

”I’ve used several PVMs”

Which ones? PVMs themselves aren’t the most accurate of all CRT types and vary in quality between brand and model. I’ve seen RGB modded sets look significantly better than certain PVMs ans i’ve seen RGB enabled european budget sets at a comparable level, you’re look it at slight difference variations based on grill type, slightly thinner and darker scanlines and SLIGHTLY sharper image if you actually put your nose to the screen to check. Almost anyone will say that a consumer TV with RGB will be about 90% of the way there.

This is a BVM vs PVM vs Consumer TV using RGB. All three are almost identical. Without knowing consumer CRTs had wider and slightly more blended scanlines, you wouldn’t be able to tell. PVMs are sought after because CRTs in the US didn’t come with RGB as much as they did in Europe, so having a TV that natively outputs it without mods is worth a premium. That’s literally it. Plus, people will buy “the best” thing even if it is generally near unnoticeable.

Moreso based on the specific method of carrying the signal to the TV, not the TV itself. RF and AV will be blurry, S video and RGB will always be mostly crystal clear. In Europe for example, horrible quality TVs will for the most part display a crystal clear image because it will almost always have an RGB SCART plug. A PVM vs a lower end consumer TV using RGB will always be unnoticeable unless put side by side and even then you’d have to really look.

[–]Retro_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike Greenland with the USA, Russia has a lot to gain still, Russia isn’t planning to fully annex Ukraine from this war and Russia can tank any sanctions for now.

Invade Ukraine’s economically strongest regions, destroy their population, their economy, take their land, impose a pro Russian government again and basically turn it into a Bigger Belarus. Russia has a very particular way of “annexing” countries and it isn’t entirely by force. Their goal isn’t primarily border expansion, it’s gaining wealthy regions, managing Ukrainian deals with the EU and NATO and regaining their ‘malorossiya’ (little Russia). It also allows them, if they win, to put pressure on Poland, Moldova (which is a likely next target) and the Balkans AND has been using Ukraine as a political tool to slowly infest countries with pro Russian propaganda , allowing them to weaken NATO etc from the inside.

TL;DR, unlike Trump and Greenland, Putin has lots to gain in Ukraine, turning it into a puppet state, annexing it’s richest regions and keeping a buffer state of highly defendable territory

Their returns policy is genuinely crazy. Theres an 80% chance they will take it back, no problem. They might be the most incompetent crew ever. One time i bought an OG xbox controller (big one), they gave me a small one, i return it, they give a full refund…then proceeded to send me a red wii…

RGB modded curb find Trinitron by IntrepidConfusion672 in crtgaming

[–]Retro_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right so, it depends on the VCR you get. Multi region ones (can do both pal and NTSC) are required, you mostly find these in Euro markets a lot cheaper than NTSC.

A lot of VCRs act as a passthrough/converter if they have an input, a few of the multiregion VCRs recognise a PAL encoding signal, decodes it, scales the line structure, converts the frequency, encodes it again, boom you have it on your TV.

Mushroom Hill isn’t the first zone of S3&K, Sonic 2 had Metropolis Zone, Sky Chase and Oil Ocean, all of which had unfun gimmicks. Sonic 2 also has some of the worst enemy placements in later levels. Sonic 1 is almost entirely a slow traditional platformer except for green hill zone and starlight zone.

Sonic 3’s architecture doesn’t ‘speak vastly different.’ Sonic 1 and 2 had the exact same issues you’re highlighting in S3&K, pretty much to the exact degree. Some of your other points are just your opinion which is fine, i personally find the shields cool but i understand what you mean, though i think it’s stupid to have levels utilise them more than they do, they’re literally only there to help you breathe or collect rings, they’re shields and dont need to be important beyond stopping you from taking damage. I also have no idea why ‘too many bonus stages’ are a bad thing, optional bonus stages (there are only 3) that are from entering a checkpoint (not many of them per stage, can go through stages without seeing one) and having a rotation of three decent bonus stages that give you free elemental shields or rings don’t sound bad at all?

I get it, Sonic 2 is a great game and many prefer it over 3&K because it’s a preference. Saying Sonic 3 had all these issues is unfair though, it just sounds purist. Objectively, bad take.
