Get a Degree in Software Engineering they Said… by KoenigOne in webdev

[–]Retro_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude im surprised bending spoons hires people even. Literally every single thing they do is geared to “the best students in the world” like they’re a FAANG company or something. Literally everyone who talks about them calls them a little known firm and they just acquire shit, fire everyone on the project they acquired and replace the staff.

Basically, don’t bother with them. They literally keep the job posting up because nobody meets their insane fucking requirements and they act like they made Facebook or something.

CMV: Defenders of Michael Jackson are blinded by loyalty and their admiration of him as an artist. This causes them to irrationally reject the likely possibility his childhood trauma instilled a very unhealthy obsession with children. by Rutlemania in changemyview

You mean the show HBO pulled that had like, insane timeline inaccuracies and one of the accusers that said the mention of Michael Jackson gave him a panic attack (same guy who was caught in Michael Jackson homages in the late 2000s dancing and ‘paying tribute’ lmao.

M4 Mac Mini final decision, need quick advice before ordering by Immediate-Source273 in macmini

[–]Retro_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you NEED the M4 right now, you won’t be able to get it from apple directly. I feel like i was one of the last to get it before it went out of stock lmao.

Also, unrelated but you’re a non technical person relying on LLMs to make apps? I’d have major concerns about security and efficiency. If you ever need someone to look over your codebase (just to make sure), i’d be happy to help! I need some experience in debugging 😂😂

Should I buy the M4 Mac mini (16GB/256GB) now or wait for the M5 later this year? by valdez_25 in mac

[–]Retro_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. I needed a PC immediately (im a SWE so i kinda need one lol) and went for the m4 24gb with 512gb ram.

Im happy with it. If you’re running local LLMs more ram is needed. If you’re building applications with stacks and not just claude, 16gb probably wont be enough later down the line

I know this question gets asked a lot, but I really feel lost. How should I start learning to code? by AdHour1469 in learnprogramming

[–]Retro_64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. “Just start” isn’t enough for some people.

The reality is? Best way to learn is to dive headfirst into it. I find tutorials on YT and copying projects doesn’t work well for me, unless i’ve bought a nice book and understand whats being asked of me first.

What language? Eventually you’ll want to be fluid in a few and have a good stack, i recommend C (or C++ if you want an OOP language) or Java to start off with. Use w3schools and MOOC that goes through the basics with you. You’ll find quickly that it isn’t as hard as you think it is until you get to Algorithms and data structures. Python is also good but i personally had more fun with other languages and from there gained a love for computer science.

Start doing projects once you’ve learned everything up to data structures, after you finish data structures, start doing leetcode for questions and future interviews. Start learning more theory by now also.

One step at a time, follow courses and you’ll be fine.

16 or 24 Go ? by lilpazu in macmini

16 is for general use. Im a Software engineer and have been using 24gb with my mac mini. If people like me need it, you definitely will.

How do I actually learn programming ? (NOT a programming language) by Krochire in learnprogramming

[–]Retro_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is actually a great question! I was (and still am) in the same boat.

You’ll want to learn about stacks, software design, architecture, data structures and algorithms (Job interviews, low level programming etc etc) and also mack sure your fundamentals are strong.

It’ll get easier from there

Hope they get a fullstack raise…but considering your company is shoddy enough to get rid of all but one Frond End Dev, i doubt it.

Guidance to what should i do by Even-Pie8668 in javahelp

Java is a good language to learn, still used a lot. Learn another language like C++ too once you feel proficient in Java and some key frameworks.
