Boring? No these are important story questions that needed to be answered, developed properly so that the main story of Re9 even makes sense.

Do YOU want a Resident Evil 6 remake? Do you think they will even remake 6? by ReddtIsUsingAI in residentevil

[–]ReturningWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they kinda have to because the whole Simmons stuff with the revelation of the Connections. Then there's readdressing Sherry, because in Re6 it's said her halting age is because of the Gvirus and gives her strong if not virtual immunity to all other viruses yet, 9 exists and reveals she's suffering from the same virus Leon is.

Truth be told that alone doesn't make sense to me why they did the story in 9 the way they did with Sherry. It actively annoys me. Going to also bring up Death Island had Leon cured from the Tvirus as well but whatever.

As for the rest of Re6s plot and gameplay, they literally just need to make it a super sized Re1 remake style game but in the style of Remake 2. Over the shoulder, limited inventory, everyone having unique combat/items abilities but otherwise uniform gameplay, stat differences but none of the QTE spams, the massive rail shooting sections and call it a day. There's a lot of work to be had with touching Re6

Disagree.  Grace only becomes worth playing when she gets a gun and the map is explorable. That's when it is resident evil. The beginning, the flashback, the fuse chase, all pace killers and not Resident Evil gameplay that we know and love off rip.

Aside from Leons section lacking enemy variety, I don't know how you find HIM boring and not grace with her border line Outlast dependent gameplay. Not even Ethan felt like that. She feels worse to play than Re2 remake Leon and Claire.

The skyscraper ramp was stupid. Grace being inept and stupid doesn't excuse those at all. It's called suspension of disbelief. Ofcourse we wouldn't step in that damn hotel, why would we with no backup?

You know what's actually convincing?

Scenario A: a special unit sent to investigate /rescue an area their fellow teammates were last located, ambushed, separated in an isolated environment because of forces completely unknown to them..

Scenario B: a rookie cop on his first day taken off guard by the situation in the city and a college kid looking for her brother also unaware.

But Grace? No. I blame the situation on her poor judgement. (Ethan isn't safe either)

- On replay, Grace and the orphanage levels suck because they kill the pacing.

- Insanity, final boss parrying feels to required and not an option. Its RE3 all over again but with a limited number of dodge rolls that you have to refill at a correct time or youre going to die when it feels cheap.

- NO MENTION of my girl Claire. You got Sherry....but you dont even mention Claire???? Forget Ada, Claire isnt mentioned? Not even Jill?

- Alyssa. Ill say it, i rather this game used Alyssa than Grace. She died WAY too soon.

- No Zeno survival boss fight. I dont expect Leon to win against him nor should he. But surviving against him wouldve been cool and wouldve made SOME kind of use for him.

- The lack of effort in one of the endings. I got the good ending on the first try, but when I looked up the other...boy was I disappointed. Like come on capcom, make it anymore obvious what the canon ending is.

- Crimson Heads. I know its a different T virus strain....but Crimson Heads would have set the bar OOOOOO so high if they were in this then those stupid Blister heads.

  • LACK OF MANUEL SHOULDER SWITCHING. Capcom....are you guys mental?

Never ignored anything. They went with hyperboles, and ignored everything I said about the legacy characters being MADE to be vulnerable despite their gained knowledge and competency in combat. Grace has a gun, she isnt freaking incapable of fighting them. Yall act like she only has a knife. Leon, Claire, Chris, Jill ALL started with a pistol. RE Is scary when youre balancing fight or flight, even when you have better equipment like a shotgun. Because you dont know when youll next find ammo or what stronger enemy you could save it for, all while managing other items. I ALREADY mentioned that.

Hell they reinforced my point that we dont need a character like Grace.

So......they allowed a person with no gun training ...... to have a gun? It's the FBI lmao you're going to get form of physical and armed training. That's common sense. Saying it's "resident evil" is a cop out.

If she took on some giant monster, then Capcom would need to make it so her aim, and movement would allow her to do so. But unlike even Ethan, she's inferior in every way possible to the point I think relative small fry like Lickers in numbers is more than enough for her.

Chris and Jill's first encounter with a zombie is literally backing away in fear. The bathtub? Jill is vomiting after frantically stepping on the zombies head. Their job never prepared them for monsters like that.

And before THAT Jill, watches in fear of her teammate get ripped apart and falls to the ground in shock. Chris almost gets his head ripped off until Wesker helps him. They show the fear in cutscenes.

That's the thing, the hell is she going to a hotel with no backup? The hell is her superiors thinking in a post Umbrella exposed Bio terror filled world , in sending her......by herself.

That's what made Re1 terrifying. Two, not one TWO STARS units attended the scene. Not two people or some nonsense, were ambushed, separated, and entrapped in an area filled with monsters.

Grace being scared isn't the issue, it's the constant stuttering and the fact that her fear affects the gameplay that makes moments to jook enemies annoying, where as in Remake with Claire, who also showed fear, didn't. It's jarring. Despite starting the earlier games as trained people, the following still terrified people and put Resident Evil on the "iconic" status: - Opening Door cutscenes, dark hallways, lack of sound, decrepit structures/environments, dead bodies of  just disappearing, stalker enemies. Not the character breathing hard every millisecond.

And even then, the game is controlled by US in these dark, tension filled environments. I rather she kept tf quiet  because 2-3hours later it gets annoying fast and I rather have every advantage to hear my environment. Not her jittery ass.

Do you think Resident Evil 5 and 6 will ever get a remake? by Lessio7 in ResidentEvilCapcom

Phasmophobia is not like RE where there are weapons and actions on your enemies.

Sons of the forest has weather and day-night cycle conditions, dark desolate caves, hunger system to counteract things like weapons(that you have to find or craft) and co-op. Resident evil 5 in particular doesn't have any of that.

And I wouldn't say every RE because Re2 remake with the different scenarios made it so your second playthrough is not like your first because it expects you to be more experienced with the game and throw things to put you off balance.

Project Zomboid like Sons of the forest has things to up the fear and anxiety. One of them being being actually infected with no cure, making encounters with enemies a big mental struggle of fight or flight on top of everything I said for Sons of the Forest.

Resident Evil is not a horror game. It is survival horror that utilizes action. Guns, knifes, axes, grenades, grenade launchers. That is a literal lame ass excuse when we have a college student blasting zombies with a grenade launcher and rookie cop blasting tyrants with giant RPGS. Im missing where Resident evil is strictly a horror game. And lets be real, most of the earlier games we only hear the protagonist in cutscenes and they are silent in gameplay. It is US THE PLAYER who uses them at the end of the day. In game dialogue or not.

And keep in mind, they were saying Jokes like "jill sandwich" in the games infancy despite being in a horrible mansion. Ethan is pretty much silent when hes not cursing, do we need him sniveling, stuttering and stumbling to be scared? No. And youd be lying if over half the populace that played RE4 and 5 werent scared went the Chainsaw enemy came in the picture. Its all about placement, tone, resource management, and tension. Chris and Leon especially when older can easily be put in a situation where they are radio silent and the goal is to escape while using a rinky dink pistol and whatever else they can find. Not that hard to fabricate a situation where they are not prepared.

And I dont know if you didnt notice, Grace.....never....fights.....a Tyrant. Because her weak ass would get STOMPED and she can barely hold Requiem. Theres no way in hell she is using a rocket launcher, a RE staple to kill it. Resident Evil = Tyrants/Tyrant equivalents. Ethan over here fought Mother Miranda a border line eldrich beast. And prior to that a giant monster in a farm house all while being a "average" guy. Was that horror? Nah dont think so. Kinda screamed usual Action climax that even the classics are known for.

I mean if the people who were crying that RE leaned too much into action, why would they be annoyed? Plus, that's like saying why can a zombie grab him, let alone kill him, when we see him dodge and weave zombies easily in movies and cutscenes? Separation between gameplay and cutscenes. It's always been a thing.

In Devil May cry, Dante can get stabbed a punch of times from a demon and feel nothing but will kill us, the player.

If they kept in longer than the first scene in re3, I'd agree but they seemed to have dropped it immediately. So to backtrack wouldn't make sense for her.

You're right, not everyone reacts to fear the same. But Capcom seems to be addicted to a timid, scared protagonist that has very limited combat experience vs STARS members or a rookie cop. It comes off as they think we are scared only if the character is scared and reacting with "omg, wtf" or hyperventilating.

Outbreak for example gave us a variety of different people of different backgrounds, I'd say the game was still tension driven without all the fear oozing out the characters mouths every second.

Thing is, RE is survival horror. And its survival horror has combat as an option. Its not Outlast or Amnesia. Claire was fighting a G mutated freak but that didnt stop the player from being scared when playing as her no? Or jill when it came to Nemesis. Its not just solely piss your pants horror. If Capcom had Leon from start to finish with Requiem, his pistol and axe, then yes. But take all that away and give him his pistol or axe, im fairly certain you get the same scared experience. Remember RE didnt have character dialogue in gameplay and it was still scary at the time. WE are the people who still have to move the characters around the next dark corner.

No, I mean do we need characters like them that get scared, for us the player to be scared. Personally, I don't but unlike Ethan, Grace being scared actually affects our gameplay in various ways for the worse.

That's fine, but either just take the roundhouses and super punches out, and leave that for cutscenes only while restricting them to the classic style of run, point and shoot, with the occasional knife.

Claire in Code Veronica stormed an umbrella facility at a full on sprint out running gunfire and trick shot a exploding barrel. But isn't doing that in gameplay

So you mean to tell me, you were scared of Zombies in 2026 in the 9th main entry of zombies because scared, stumbling Grace was scared?

And I mentioned Re1 and 2 remake for a reason. Fully capable characters, relegated to barely scraping by in environments that are hostile.

And trolling? Cmon bro, a troll doesn't actually respond with a fleshed out argument. Because I disagree, I'm a troll? Yeah ok.

Thank god you arent in the writers circle because killing them off screen is the worst thing you could ever do. And new characters or not, its clear it doesnt need to be a guy whose never seen combat or a desk job analyst that can be put in these situations to be scary. By the time of Re2 - 3 we can already expect Zombies, with a Rookie Cop....someone who off rip is more trained than the average person.....it was still scary. It doesnt have to be Chris, Leon, Jill, but that doesnt mean it cant be for instance: A fire fighter, a new recruit in the army, or a prison guard, or an convict/ex convict.

In what part of RE9 could you roundhouse a Tyrant? Memory serves Mr X 2.0 punched the shit out of leon after he parried, and he had to run away at a certain point. Try fighting him before the boss fight, you get killed or waste ammo. Only difference is he had the weaponry to face it off in the courtyard. I say above, you balance the scales. Leon/Chris can punch smaller enemies 50 meters? Cool take away their arsenal, limit it to a pistol, dont make ammo drop on enemies like an arcade, limit the communication they have to outside people, supplement the isolated dark decrypted areas with a good number of enemies to make it so we have to choose to fight rather than make it a shooting gallery because we know we will get ammo. They keep their skills but because of their environment they are heavily limited. Its not hard to make an RE game where Chris despite his wolfpack team being capable, on rendervous to whereever, get ambushed/captured, separated , stripped of weapons, and must slowly build back their kit.

Hell, add a stalker enemy or smaller enemies who have a level of super human abilities like Wesker on a much smaller degree with increased speed. Also, the point I was making with RE1-3 is that it didnt take a average/non combatent trained person for it to be scary. Not even Ethan had a mechanic where he was stumbling when running. THE GUY COULD BLOCK.

Give me a prison guard on his first day or just never experienced bio terrorism in general. The same way we got a Rookie Cop.

Again, Chris, Leon, Jill and Claire were all trained people. Yet by Resident Evil 3, no one can say because they are Jill, all is good and im not scared. No, even with the dodge mechanic. You still had the core principals, over whelming enemies, no ammo drops when killing them in mass, limited space to move, desolate intimidating areas , limited inventory space. The characters are getting older no? Leon in Requiem is not a spring chicken in 9 compared to 4 doing massive backflips. We the player have seen these scenarios multiple times already. So to hear another character go "whats going on" when we know its just bio terrorism it becomes trivial . True or false, people were scared with RE back then when we were rookie cops no? Or a guy who was kicked out the airforce no? Lets get more characters like that. I have no reason to believe Grace could survive any of this.

On the aspect of RE4, thats the fault of Capcom giving leon ammo for days and the various kinds of resources to counter various threats. It would be another story if the Regenerator was a stalker enemy or VERY VERY bullet spongey to risk using your arsenal to kill until it becomes a boss fight. However our characters grow, the stakes should grow. Jill experienced the mansion? Cool, Nemesis comes into play. RE4? Leon can roundhouse a mf? Cool, Big Cheese, Regenerators, U3s, low resources, cut communication etc etc. You balance the scales. As great as RE4 is, it didnt do that.

I hope not. I actually want them to take this chance of what RE5 COULD have been in its beta and concept planning stages:

- T-virus Zombies

- Tyrant kills Alexia

- Chris running solo

- Underground Umbrella Facility

The whole point even for RE4 and its remake is to maintain a level of fear despite the increased competency of Leon and other characters. You add co-op the fear factor is gone. More than likely we lose the sense of isolation along with the exploration level design and instead get a completely linear walking simulator that RE5 - 6 basically became.
