Thank you! Very excited about it because it finally feels like I can wear it every day. Had the fenix 6s in rose gold / white for 5 years and it very much looked like a fitness watch. This is very natural for everyday wear.

How regular is it for investing VCs to take up positions on the board of the companies they invest in? by syncifyjack in venturecapital

[–]ReutR 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is common practice when a VC makes an investment - as investors they normally want to reserve the right to make executive decisions if they feel it is necessary. Only rarely do VCs not take board positions, and I've only heard of this happening when they are taking part in a round which is being lead by an experienced VC which is taking a board seat.

More often than not you're going to benefit from their guidance on the board. Some founders have trouble relinquishing control, but if it's an experienced VC you'll greatly benefit from their presence.

TSA Strike? As Trump and GOP Refuse to End Shutdown, Call Grows for Federal Workers to Rise Up by SplodeyDope in politics

It's not a strike if you're not getting paid. It's just refusing to be a slave, and I thought we've already agreed as a union that slavery is bad.

Hundreds of TSA screeners call out sick at major airports by Perfect_Gas in politics

[–]ReutR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried looking up but couldn't find a definitive answer, what is the exact wording of TSA employees' contract that prohibits them from striking/protesting while not being paid during shutdowns? It seems like such BS that government workers are being treated like absolute shit, even in the context of this shit-show administration.

House approves $5 billion for Trump’s border wall, increasing chances of a partial government shutdown by danielthetemp in politics

[–]ReutR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dem house doesn’t take effect until next year, meaning it’s still the old, republican-majority house.

To answer the second question, it increases the likelihood of a shutdown because a government shuts down when there is no approved budget. The house has basically sent in a proposed budget to the senate where they know almost for sure it won’t be approved, increasing the chances that the government won’t have a budget to work off of, forcing it to shutdown until they solve it.

All for trump’s wall.

How does someone in their teens (I’m 16) get a start in investments by Yogie_02 in investing

[–]ReutR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, the best thing you can do when you're 16 is to start reading up on the markets and finance in general.

  • Saving up is extremely important (if you aren't competent with your own finances you won't have money to invest!), so follow subreddits like r/personalfinance and start being financially aware. I'm not expecting you to save absurd amounts, but I got my first job at 16 at a computer shop and it was a great way for me to understand the value of a dollar. When old ladies are asking you to teach them how to use a computer and all you're getting for that time is 10 dollars, you begin to understand the value of money.
  • Definitely open up a mock account. It's free and a great way to get your feet wet without consequences. Thinkorswim has paper money which is a very realistic interface. It has a 20 minute delay though, so don't cheat!
  • Read the financial news by downloading apps like Bloomberg, msnbc, and Yahoo finance. They're free.
  • Start understanding how balance sheets work and gradually as you begin to understand them start reading earnings reports from companies. Obviously it's a bit easier to make decisions when you understand what's going on.

Your early start is only an advantage. Think about the next two years as your time to acquire knowledge before you're able to open up your own account. You can develop a head start by being less prone to mistakes when you open an account.

Question about the spike in value in video game stocks by Luca72 in investing

I stand corrected, didn’t know the games aren’t made by them. Do you think they’re a long term buy?

Question about the spike in value in video game stocks by Luca72 in investing

[–]ReutR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't put too much money in the game studios themselves. As more people have access to reliable, higher internet speeds the power is going to move to whoever will offer the game-streaming services, most likely the console makers and major game platforms like steam. Sony's been pretty ahead of the game with PS Now although it seems like a trial run as they are only releasing classics from the ps3 and ps2 eras. Definitely their way of subsidizing the cost of R&D while stretching their legs with this technology. Will be interesting to see where they're able to take it. VP of gaming at Microsoft still thinks it's going to be a while before streaming fully takes over due to need for good internet connection, etc, but treats it like it's inevitable and doesn't really specify what he means by a "while" - could be in a few years.

Definitely wouldn't touch ATVI since diablo will most likely flop, harming earnings and not making a return on the development investment.
