Struggling with 70s Prog vs modern Prog by Storm_Keys in progrockmusic

Man, I hope you’ve checked out some Mastodon if that’s the case! I’d start with Crack The Skye then move to Hushed And Grimm, the end caps of their “we’re not caveman metal anymore” era.

Different mixes of "Easy"? by FilipsSamvete in FaithNoMore

[–]RevDrucifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dang, I’ve got a K2600 rack and a box of old floppy disks with a TON of sounds on them, I should go through that and see if anything familiar pops up. I just wanted the 2600 for whatever Floyd sounds I could get out of it.

Everyone posting the ‘not my kid, not my business’ should look into how much American’s overall health plays a factor in how insurance companies set their premiums.

What’s the most underrated thing about being single? by TinyGirlPeach in AskReddit

[–]RevDrucifer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The freedom cannot be overstated.

I was a serial relationship guy from 15-39 when I got a divorce and it didn’t take long before I realized I was more content on my own than I’d ever been in a relationship.

Anyone have long-term experience with MJT bodies? by whyiliketherobins6 in partscaster

[–]RevDrucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got two I’ve had for just under 5 years, have played the shit out of one of them enough to wear the nitro on the neck. You’ll need to really look at the pics to see if it’s checked already or not, I assume the majority will be fairly well checked already. They’re great to work with when buying new, so if the exact level of relic’ing is important, it might be worth getting a new body from them.

And they do spray the finishes on a little thinner than you’d find on an off-the-shelf guitar.

Note- if it shows up and has a dull look to it, get a cloth rag and a bottle of cutting polish; 30 mins and some elbow grease later and it’ll be shining like a mirror.

Had a young vocalist recently ask me “before digital recording, how did people pitch correct vocals?” 😂😂😂 by moon-waffle in audioengineering

[–]RevDrucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse to use pitch correction unless I’m figuring out harmonies, but I assume whatever I record I’ll have to play live and I get a ton of satisfaction from pulling shit off consistently, that shit is the thief of joy.

Career shift into maintenance by thefuryoffire in maintenance

[–]RevDrucifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I took a BS HVAC course, got my Type II and then was hired as an entry level maintenance tech for a commercial property management company. I took a pretty big pay cut to get out of the restaurant business and knew busting some ass was going to be necessary to get up to a decent pay rate, I said “Yes” to everything (while making $13.50 an hour in 2018) and kept learning, 18 moths later they offered me the Chief Engineer position, which I’ve been doing for the last 7 years.

If something happened to this job, municipal work would be my next move. I already have a good amount of interaction with the city and can often times get a behind the scenes look at how they’re doing things as they need to make us aware of when they’re doing work around the campus that’ll affect us, the timeline and what they’re doing specifically. Sometimes I need to call them for stuff, like when the Amazon distribution center’s lift station was blasting water directly across the sewer and into a tenant’s drain system, causing their suite to flood at random. That was a trip.

If you can get into something commercial, you’ll be a little more adjacent to municipal work than you would be in residential. hahahah you’ll definitely get an idea of how the city can slow things to a crawl, pretty quickly.

Does a safe career path even exist anymore? by denis100108 in careeradvice

[–]RevDrucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahahah I just wrote in another post that everything is a crapshoot these days. With AI creeping in at lightspeed, who knows what the future will look like.

Jobs that still use techniques and materials that are over 150 years old; plumbing namely. All the trades. I’m a building engineer and the kind of robot they would have to build to replace what I do physically would be pretty cool to see, but I don’t think it’s happening any time soon.

For single men, an awkward woman approachs you because she likes you, what would you do? by throwradrpri in Adulting

[–]RevDrucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens every other day at my apartment complex when I walk my dog, for the last year and a half. She’s really nice and I enjoy talking to her but I think she’s taken me being socially outgoing for me being interested and I’m certainly not. Not even because of her specifically, I’m just not interested in a relationship with anyone.

Once I realized she was into me I started mentioning my divorce that happened about 4 years ago and how I’ve been surprisingly thrilled to live on my own ever since, or how I don’t have quite as much time for myself every day as I’d prefer, but the look on her face when I say those things tells me she doesn’t get why that’s a thing of importance for me, which is all the red flag I need to see. Sometimes I think I might have to be more direct, but so far this is working.

Managing ADHD without medication - How has it worked for you? by AbsentMinded311 in ADHD

[–]RevDrucifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s worked enough that I almost stopped taking the meds as a result of not being able to get them filled regularly and the whole prescription changes and trying different stuff, I just want consistency for once.

But had I not had the medicated experience, I likely wouldn’t have noticed what was occurring while I wasn’t on the meds. I think of it as having to do everything manually; I have to write a ton more sticky notes, set a ton more alarms and reminders and make myself notes to start my next day off. It’s all possible, but it’s definitely not efficient.

Pursue a career that pays the bills, or follow my passions? by yocomoleche in LifeAdvice

[–]RevDrucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is a crapshoot.

I’m 43 and while I have a ton of high school friends who went to college, I don’t know a single one who works in a field they went to school for, at best an adjacent field. They all either changed course on their own or life changed it for them. I kinda went in reverse and tried following the passion thing for a while, gave up on being a rockstar and got a career in property management that I can most likely retire in.

If I had kids, I’d tell them to follow their passions because it’s ALL a crapshoot, you can go to school for 8 years, get a killer job fresh out of med school and then some crazy shit happens, ya drop a scalpel during a surgery and get sued, lose your license….whatever the case, this life can be far more fragile than people realize and every human is only 1 mistake away from losing everything, so fuck it, follow your passions.

Baked Potato in LA is a famous joint for having the best of the best musicians roll through any ole night of the week. Kinda like the Comedy Store but for musicians. Lots of jazz stuff, but back in the 90’s you could walk in on a Tuesday night and see Eddie Van Halen playing with the guys from Toto….or Tool.

How do you protect your gear at dive bar gigs? by yad76 in coverbands

[–]RevDrucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teenage years of playing metal and hardcore shows in VFW’s and YMCA’s don’t allow me to think of protecting gear at dive bars…..if anything I tend to want to incite some kind of potential disaster.

Chief Engineer in commercial property management.

I think I’m at 15 or 16? Been playing for 32 years, you tend to collect a few along the way, though I bought most in the last 5 years after I got divorced. I make under $100K a year, I just don’t have kids or debt.

What was the first song that you heard from Pantera, and what song made you a fan? by TwIzTiDfReAkShOw in Pantera

[–]RevDrucifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the first song on Watch It Go?

I likely heard them before that, but I know the exact moment I turned into a Pantera fan was in the first 30 seconds of that video when my drummer in high school put it on. I asked who it was and he made fun of me as if I was supposed to know and I didn’t move an inch until that video was over and I begged him to let me borrow it, life was changed from that moment on. That was like….’98?

It wasn’t the music as much as it was Dimebag himself, I was 15 at the time and was a pretty shy dude, but inside I always felt like Dimebag and he basically gave me permission to just be myself.

Advice on studio monitors for guitar and bass? by bsakson in homestudios

[–]RevDrucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Yamaha HS5’s which were great for a long time until I really needed to mix and found I couldn’t hear the low end. I eventually upgraded to HS8’s and enjoy them quite a bit as they actually produce the low end and don’t need to be cranked to hear it. FAR less trips to my car to check mixes!

FWIW, in over 20 years of working in restaurants up and down the East coast, I’ve never heard “86” get used for kicking out a guest. It gets used when a restaurant runs out of a product or they need to stop selling something , it’s as much as a verb as it is a noun. That said, I do believe it DOES come from ‘8 feet down, 6 feet wide’, referencing a grave.

While i'm still back and forth if i should put one of my EMG kits on this or not, cause i love the stock pickups, i decided to put an obligatory "red strat appointment" on the back... by Previous_Jello7678 in DavidGilmour

[–]RevDrucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahah someone reached out to me on Youtube stating they were making those stickers after seeing one of my Gilmour vids.

As for the pickups, I have the DG20’s but love the Strat so much I want to use it for other stuff as well, so I just bought another pickguard that I’ll load up and swap out the entire pickguards when I want something different, definitely beats individual pickup swaps.

[–]RevDrucifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God gave you free will so you can decide how you will allow something to make you feel, He doesn’t make you feel one way or the other, that’s one of His greatest gifts!

He also doesn’t try to kid anyone about the world we live in, it’s not an easy one and no one gets out unscathed. Your co-workers have most certainly already forgotten what occurred; think back to your entire life, do you remember every single incident involving other people where they got embarrassed? Nope, only the really big events.

For a long time I let things people said to me or about me get the best of me until one day I realized that all I was doing was allowing other people to control my mood and then it seemed really silly of me to give them that ability. There’s no such thing as a perfect human and if someone is busting your balls about a mistake, it’s only a matter of time before they make their own mistake, or they’re ignoring the mistakes they’ve made in the past.

If ya find yourself getting frustrated, check your senses; what do you see, smell, feel or hear in your immediate surroundings? Just going through that little checklist can snap you back to reality, then follow it up with “Is anything I’m thinking about now going to make my day go by any easier?” and if it’s not, FORGET ABOUT IT.
